Information along the way...
From Saint-Gabriel-Brécy, continue in the direction of Falaise
as you ride through the “golden
stone” area. To the east of the Bessin, the quarries of Orival produce
limestone which has a beautiful
golden colour. The stone was used
to build many castles, mansions
and manor farms; you will see many
examples of such buildings along
this route.
The priory of Saint-Gabriel, behind
you, was founded under the
Tourist offices
episcopate of Odo, for the Abbey
of Fécamp. It is interesting to note
that, as a consent to the founding
of the priory, Odo, the Bishop
of Bayeux, received a chalice
(worth six pounds) and an ounce
of gold with which to gild it (worth
thirty pounds). William, then Duke,
received two horses (worth ten
pounds). These had previously
belonged to the knights Robert and
Néel de Graye, before they became
monks in Fécamp.

The Château of Brécy
The château of Lantheuil
You will be able to enjoy a view of the
Château of Manneville, situated at the
end of an 800 metre avenue, bordered by a double row of hundred year
old beech trees. Built in the Louis 13th
style, it dates from the 17th Century
and was listed as HM* in 2008. This
is a private property. Please do not
trespass.

The château
of Vaux-sur-Seulles
The château as it stands today, with
its rectangular plan and Mansard roof
dates from 1660. It was erected on the
site of a medieval building. The moat is
the remaining part of the feudal castle which stood there. This is a private

The château of Vaussieux
Built in the 18th Century, the château
is bordered by the river Seulles. Its
façade and roofs have been listed
HM* since 1970. This is a private
property. Please do not trespass.

The gardens of the château
of Brécy
Behind the monumental gate and
the château of Brécy (both listed
HM*), take a stroll through the 17th
Century Italian garden. Surrounded
by high walls and a row of trees, it
is composed of five succeeding
terraces leading to a gate and
opening onto the horizon.
