The European Theatre Convention would like to thank the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele and the ETC partner
theatres for their collaboration and the unique opportunity they provided for the young people.
This report aims at giving an overview of what it has been done during the project

1. The project : EUROPOLIS 2050 - Theatre Youth Forum: Stage your European Dream
The project has been initiated by the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele under the patronage of the European Theatre Convention.
The idea was to gather over 50 Young People from five European and neighboring to work together with theatre
directors and professionals to stage a performance around the theme: „Europe in 40 years“ from June 12 to 20, 2010 as
part of the Bad Hersfelder Festival. The presentation of the working result – the performance – launched the opening of
the new theatre building, a former factory hall (Schilde Halle).

3. Project management
Role of the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele
- Organisation and financing of the Theatre Youth Forum (accommodation, transfers, meals, etc) and artistic concept
and development (rehearsals and performance venues)
- Summer academy
Role of the ETC
- Project coordination between the project partners, the Youth Forum participants and the artistic team
- Collection of information (departure and arrival information for each groups)
- Communication with Bad Hersfeld
- Preparation of project booklet with relevant programme information
- Allocation of ETC subsidies to partner theatres (EUR 100 per participants for maximum 10 people per group)

Preparation of the Youth Forum
The European Theatre Convention installed a google group on April 29th 2010 so that every participant could interact
with each other, share documents, video, music, before the Youth Forum started.
The google group allowed Katja Heiser (the artistic director) to be in contact with the young people and to prepare the
Youth Forum together with the participants. They had the opportunity to exchange personal information such as favourite
songs or favourite poems in order to feed into the workshops.

PERFORMANCES
Street performance in Bad Hersfeld on Saturday 19th of June 2010 to advertise the performance on Sunday.
Theme : typical walk of each nationality. 150 flyers distributed.
Performance at The Schilde Halle on Sunday 20th of June 2010 at 11.00am
A huge old industrial hall (former Babcock-Hall).
150 people attended the performance
Duration: 1,15 hour
A cocktail has been offered by the sponsor K + S Kali
GmbH after the performance

A press conference has been held on Thursday 10th of June 2010, two days before the official opening of
the festival and the beginning of the project.

A Facebook page has been created by Lukas Spielberger, one of the young people so that the young
people could stay in contact with each other after the project and share their pictures.

Beeindruckende Darbietung des Jugendforums
Bad Hersfeld. „Dobar dan“, „Shalom“, „Welcome“, „Guten Tag“, „Hyvää Päivää“ – gleich zu Beginn der Matinee des Internationalen
Jugendforums wurden die Besucher mit babylonischem Sprachgewirr begrüßt. Kein Wunder, bei einer Darbietung von Jugendlichen aus
fünf verschiedenen Nationen. Eine Woche lang hatten sich die 40 Jugendlichen im Rahmen des 1. Internationalen Jugendforums der Bad
Hersfelder Festspiele Gedanken zur Zukunft Europas gemacht, die sie am Sonntagvormittag einem beeindruckten Publikum präsentierten.
Zunächst einmal wurden aber die verschiedenen Klischees der einzelnen Länder parodiert. So wird Kroatien offenbar nur von Greisen
bewohnt, die gerne in der Sonne herumsitzen, während die Engländer stets fröhlich Tee trinken, obwohl es dauernd regnet. Behäbig
bratwurst-gesättigt präsentierten sich die Deutschen, energiegeladen und zynisch die Israelis, nordisch-depressiv die Finnen.
Zentrales Thema der Präsentation war „Kommunikation“. In humorvollen Szenen zeigten die Jugendlichen, wie sich Europa mit Handy und
Internet immer mehr vernetzt, während Sprachbarrieren wie auch die Mentalitätsunterschiede sicher weiter bestehen werden. Dass die
Jugendlichen der Internet-Generation keine Verständigungsprobleme kannten, zeigte sich hingegen schnell. Und schließlich kam auch die
Musik als universelles Kommunikationsmittel zum Tragen: Durch Trommeln auf Rohre und Metallpfeiler brachten die Jugendlichen die
Schilde-Halle lautstark zum Klingen. Gekonnt wurden anschließend die Zukunftswünsche und -sorgen dargeboten, von „Love & Peace“ bis
zu „Im Jahr 2012 werden wir alle sterben“ reichte die Bandbreite. Und einer brachte schließlich auch seine Hoffnung zum Ausdruck, dass
Deutschland Fußball-Weltmeister wird – da steht der Völkerverständigung wohl nichts mehr im Wege. (jpl)
