They played sans clarinet for a time as they had a glitch in scheduling. The replacement, Polly Edgerton was a fine “Sweet Substitute”. Another afternoon filled with great music. Our Jam sets included two extra young musicians, friends of our wonderful young tuba player Zach Maher. They were great. July 26 features the ever popular Creole Jazz Kings. You won’t want to miss these fun musicians. Barbara Kinney, President The Board Needs Your Help!! August is the month the Board must start thinking about a slate of officers for next year. Our President will be termed out at the end of the year. Right now eight of the eleven members of the Board are 80 years of age or over. Won’t some younger members step up and help us to broaden the age range that fervently works to keep our music alive and well? Box 714, Middletown, CA 95461 Email: [email protected] www.sbtjs.org BECAUSE MOST MUSIC Because most music helps most to believe, and we have a heart for keeping. Yet for the soul it’s a great relief, and it’s a treasure when we’re sleeping. Yet music walks beside me, as time passes through. And yes, I hold this belief, since we all should value it too. Time is what can reach out, to a heart that seems to be burning. Still it turns life about, while knowledge can keep returning. So open the soul for each day, while music sets the heart free. This gives love much more to say, cause it’s a gift for you and me. BOARD MEETING TUESDAY, AUG. 4, 2015 BY JOSEPH TEMPLETT The ELKS Lodge 11:00 a.m. 375 N. Bob Schulz is playing at The YP Gordon Biersch Stage on Saturday at 6:00. This stage is open to the public, and South Bay members are encouraged to attend, eat dinner and enjoy Bob and his band. Clint Baker is playing at Alaska Airlines Big Easy Stage on Saturday at 1:30. This stage requires a ticket to the festival but once you are in it is good for the whole day at all of the stages. This past year we have been working with San Jose Jazz to present more trad/early jazz at the festival. Our efforts are paying off and we are encouraged by the interest of San Jose Jazz staff and board. While Bob and Clint will play the music familiar to us, the festival provides an opportunity to hear a wide variety of jazz. Jazz is an evolving art form but the roots are still there if one take the time to listen. For more information go to sanjosejazz.org. Ticket prices start at $25 with discounts for early purchase.
