Mass was celebrated at St. Margaret Mary on Park Avenue in Winter Park at 9:30 a.m., followed by a champagne brunch at Circa Restaurant across the street from the Church. Our diverse group (including Young Alumni, Members, parents, children, and friends of the Club) was recognized by Father Walsh at Mass. The group then enjoyed a fantastic meal at Circa (including options such as Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict, Pan Con Dulce de Leche French Toast, and Steak and Eggs with Chimmichurri, as well as a complimentary Mimosa). The event this year was a great opportunity to share our faith, and get to know other members of the Club over a nice meal in a family-friendly setting. Dessert Reception at Sam Snead's Greater Orlando had a record 24 high school seniors admitted to Notre Dame's Class of2015. Thirteen of the students, with their parents, attended a dessert reception at Sam Snead's Tavern in Maitland recently. The party was hosted by 14 present and former members of the Club's Board of Directors, nine recent graduates, and seven parents of current Notre Dame Students. Enjoying dessert at Sam Snead's were Rick ND'74 & Judy ND'15 Scharf; Shannon ND'04 and Sean ND'32 Batal; Keith WertschingND'15; Mike ChandlerND'04; and RyanND'15 Huhn. Summer Service Learning Program Host Families Needed The Summer Service Learning Program is an eight-week experience where the Notre Dame Center for Social Concerns (CSC) invites Notre Dame Alumni Clubs to sponsor a student(s) to work in an agency or parish in the local community of the Club. The Center recruits Notre Dame Students who are interested in expanding their education by working with and learning from persons who are marginalized in society. In 2010, 113 Notre Dame Alumni Clubs sponsored 226 Notre Dame Students in sites across the country. We are pleased to advise you that the Notre Dame Club of Greater Orlando will be sponsoring a SSLP Student again this year. Our 2011 SSLP student is Adriana Zurbano'14 of Howard Hall and Downers Grove, Illinois. Adriana will be working at the BETA Center in Orlando, and she will be here for about 8 weeks from June through the beginning of August- exact dates are still being confrrmed. We are in need of host families to assist in housing for 2 week intervals. Adriana will have her own car. Can you help? You supply lodging & food, and whatever else you wish to share with her (trip to the beach, Disney, a good book). This is a wonderful way to "give back" to your University and the students that are currently attending. The CSC has asked that we provide them with the names of the host families by May 3rd. Please feel free to contact me SSLP Chairperson Bill Ramsey at home: 407-327-1961, cell: 407-619-1439 or email: [email protected] OF CENTRAL fLORIDA NO Club Community Service Event at Second Harvest Food Bank Once again, The Notre Dame Club of Greater Orlando will be hosting a food sorting community service event for the Second Harvest Food Bank: of Central Florida.
