WELCOME TO THE 2016 ROYAL QUEENSLAND SHOW CANINE COMPETITION ONE OF EKKA'S LARGEST AND MOST POPULAR COMPETITIONS
The Canine Competition continues to grow
with 2,783 entries received this year – that’s
an increase of 194 entries on last year. There
are 172 different canine breeds featured in the
competition and we’re looking forward to an
exciting show in the judging ring.
This year we have produced this special guide for
exhibitors which features essential competition
information, what’s new, a program guide and
an overview of the competition. It is available
for download at www.ekka.com.au and will be
regularly updated.
We are delighted to have a new Ekka first
judging system in place for the 2016 Canine
Competition. This revolutionary system means
dogs will be judged in their group on one day
using two international judges.
This is a first for the Royal Shows in Australia and
reinforces our commitment to making the Ekka
the most exhibitor friendly event by streamlining
the competition. It also ensures exhibitors can
plan ahead knowing that all group judging will
take place in a single day.

DROP OFF / PICK UP
ACCESS POINTS
The pick-up / drop-off points will ensure an
easy process to get your canines to the correct
location. Drop-off and pick-up points will be
located at Gate 2a off St Paul's Terrace near
Exhibition Street and will be open from 6am.
PARKING
Parking will again be available at Fortitude Valley
State School and will cost:
• $30 per day for a car
• $50 per day for a car and trailer

Please also show your ID and provide a copy of
your receipt upon entry.
Secure Parking has teamed up with Ekka this
year, as our preferred parking partner. Exclusive
rates will be offered at the following locations:

CANINE EXERCISE AREA
There will be a canine toileting area located close
to the benching areas (please refer to the map).
Adequate signage will be displayed during the 10
days of show.

BENCHING INFORMATION
Breed numbers and benching area information
will be handed out on the day of judging for each
group. Please show your receipt upon arrival.
WHAT'S NEW
EKKA FIRST JUDGING SYSTEM
The RNA is delighted a new Ekka first judging
system will be in place for the 2016 Royal
Queensland Show Canine Competition. This
revolutionary system means dogs will be judged
in their group on one day using two international
judges. The group specials will be judged at the
end of each day with Best in Group, RunnerUp, Puppy, Baby, Neuter and runner up to
best Neuter in Group to come back on the last
Saturday for General Specials. The obedience
classes will be held over two afternoons while
Dances with Dogs, Rally Obedience and Agility
will all be held on the last day of show. This
is a first for the Royal Shows in Australia and
reinforces our commitment to making the Ekka
the most exhibitor friendly event by streamlining
the competition. It also ensures exhibitors can
plan ahead knowing that all group judging will
take place in a single day.
TOY FEATURE SHOW
The Specialty Show this year will focus on the
Toy Breeds in Group 1 (22 different breeds) and
will be held on Friday 12 August. This year 339
entries have been received, an increase on the
259 from last year.
