Dear Financial Aid Officer;
WKBC seeks to encourage students interested in the business of broadcasting by offering a
$2500 scholarship to such a student WKBC will select a student from our coverage area wishing
to pursue a career in broadcasting, communication, marketing, or some related field of study that
could lead to a career in broadcasting.
With this letter, please find a packet that explains the scholarship program, together with a twopage application, a waiver form, an essay cover sheet, and a checklist Please feel free to
duplicate these six pages and distribute them to students who express interest in these areas of
study or to teachers who might help identify students interested in a broadcasting career.

2014 Scholarship Program
The WKBC AM-800 & 97.3 FM scholarship is designed to recognize and encourage an
outstanding student interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting. The annual award winner will
receive $2,500 to support his/her continued education in broadcasting, communications or
marketing.
Scholarships will be awarded for full-time degree work. Scholarships must be used exclusively
for tuition, student fees, university bookstore course purchases, and/or university dormitory
(room and board) costs.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
The applicant should be able to show substantial evidence of superior academic performance and
personal potential to have an outstanding career in broadcasting, communication, and/or
marketing. There should be compelling evidence that the applicant possesses high integrity and a
sense of personal and professional responsibility.
The applicant must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a high school senior, entering a college or university on a full-time basis as
a freshman or currently enrolled as a full-time student in a college or university
with an interest in pursuing a career in broadcasting.
2. Provide an official high school or college transcript and three letters of
recommendation.
3. Provide an essay describing why he or she is interested in the field of
broadcasting and what area of the field you wish to pursue. Essay must be
typewritten and a minimum of 500 words.
4. Completed application and must be returned to the Scholarship Chairman
postmarked no later than Friday, April] 8, 2014.
APPLICA TION PROCEDURES:
Obtain the official application forms from your campus financial aid officer, your guidance
counselor, or at WKBC. The forms ask for personal and academic data and transcripts, broadcast
and other experience, a written statement of goals and supportive statements from three
references.
