Tri-County Record, Rushford, MN Thursday, November 13, 2014 PAGE 7 AND THE WINNER IS... Tim O’Hare 32nd Annual Tri-County Record/Merchant Football Contest 2nd place goes to... Steve Hartwick MOST CORRECT $30 This week I butchered my contest entry instead of a deer, having my worst week of the season. I wrote this column before the Monday mail came through. That delivery changed everything when Tim’s entry arrived. Steve started out the season slow but has made significant progress in the last few weeks. Steve (49) lost out on the tiebreaker (69) to Tim (51) and took the top spot this week. That knocked Korey Burroughs (34) out of the money. They each had four wrong with Braden Danielson, Drew Anderson, Dennis Cordes, Sam Kingsley, Tim Highum, and Don Carlson all close behind with five wrong. The Gophers and Packers did some butchering of their own this week. The Hawkeyes are better than they showed. The Bears are not. I watched as the Bear defensive line were continually blocked and the defensive backfield didn’t know their assignments. The Bears were often running a man-zone where two corners would hand off their receiver to one safety. That math doesn’t work well and leaves Jordy Nelson wide open. Note to self; don’t leave Jordy Nelson uncovered. I’m hoping the Bears play as poorly this week. The Vikings have a way of bringing out the best in bad teams. Our D-line should keep Cutler uncom- $15 2nd PLACE fortable all day leading to a pick or two. Watching Jared Allen it appears we let him go at the right time. He really is having a hard time shedding his blockers. He only has 1.5 sacks this season. In comparison, Karl Klug has two and Allen’s replacement, Everson Griffin, has quietly gotten nine. I am currently waiting by the phone for Adrian Peterson to call me to say he’s coming back. He is waiting on a ruling from the League. There was a previous agreement that he could return when his legal affairs were put to rest. He should be able to return, at least until the league would hand out any further penalty. He has already missed 8 weeks for what was finally a misdemeanor. Caledonia plays what should be their toughest game of the season this week. BOLD finished the season ranked second, right behind the Warriors. Rochester Lourdes is also playing the number two ranked team just behind them. Blooming Prairie lost out to the second ranked team in the state last week which disappointed me. I believe R-P would have matched up better against Minneapolis North than they did. Grand Meadow should roll this week. Then again I thought Waterworld was a great movie. The Gophers will need their A-game this week ALL CORRECT $100 by Derek ‘the Norse’ Berg OFFICAL ENTRY FORM WEEK #12 Name___________________________________ and a bit of luck. They are not getting any respect from the analysts on TV or radio. A win would definitely catapault them into the national spotlight. I would settle for a tight game myself. If I can possibly find the gas money I hope to be at the game. Though we are definitely a running team (David Cobb is the ninth ranked rusher in the country), quarterback Mitch Leidner is carrying an impressive 134.8 quarterback ranking. R-P Booster Club_________________________ Congratulations to Larry Overland and Don Carlson for knowing that the original Floyd of Rosedale is buried in Mabel. Extra credit to Larry for knowing he is on the Don Gjerdrum farm. I plan to hook up with Gopher wideout Isaac Freuchte and make a pilgrimage there, possibly over Christmas time. It’s actually close to where I go to church. 4. Timber Ghost Realty______________________ No trivia question this week as I have to take a break to say my goodbyes to ‘The Boss’. You’re going to have enough on your plate anyway, trying to pick these difficult games this week. My Cardinal bandwagon got a flat time last week when Carson Palmer threw a shoe and can’t pull that cart anymore. Sure would be nice for them to knock off the Lions. I’m picking the Colts to upset the Pats but the toughest pick this week will be the Seahawks and Chiefs. ‘Nough said, happy picking. 9. Farmers Co-op___________________________ 7.
