January 2013 - Chicago Finance Exchange
Chicago Finance Exchange Bi-Monthly Newsletter Edition 1 ~ January 2013 A Message from the President… “Continue to Turn Up the Heat for 2013” It is truly amazing how quickly a year flies by. It almost seems like yesterday that I was drafting my first message as your President. I’d like to thank the board and committee members who worked hard this past year to find new ways for CFE members to connect. We turned up the heat to remind members that CFE membership is so much more than dues and six dinner meetings. It’s making connections to build your profitability in business. It’s tapping your network when you are seeking new employment or a board opportunity. It’s making new friends with whom to share your successes and your problems. It’s being there for one another when we lose one of our own in an untimely fashion. As members, you turned up the heat and the combined effort made 2012 a terrific year for CFE. I’d also like to offer a very special thank you to Chris Glatz and Kathy Tinker. With their help and behind the scenes support we were able to have over 20 networking events or workshops along with the newsletters and website improvements in 2012! We could not have accomplished so much without their help. As we begin 2013, I know that we will continue to build on this success. As members we will have numerous opportunities to network and enhance our skills. The month of January alone has provided us with numerous opportunities to get together. We had the annual meeting and the pre-meeting session with Matt Anderson, The Referral Authority, speaking about building a successful system for referrals on January 10. On January 18, CFE members attended the Annual Capital Markets Outlook luncheon. And we will have our first “Beyond Finance” event sponsored by Grant Thornton at the Field Museum with Maria Pinto on January 30. The next morning you will have another opportunity to join Upcoming Events Wednesday, Jan 30, 2013 Beyond Finance: A Discussion with Maria Pinto, The Field Museum 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm Register Online Thursday, Jan 31 2013 Women’s Leadership Breakfast Executives’ Club of Chicago with Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, The Fairmont 7:15 am – 9:15 am More Info Tuesday, Feb 5, 2013 BAC Panel: Mutual Funds Drinker & Biddle Office 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm (See details on page 4) Register Online Wednesday, Feb 13 2013 CFE Book Club Amber Café, Westmont 6:30 pm Register Online Wednesday, Feb 20 Lunch N Learn: “Managing Your Online Reputation” Vedder & Price Office 12:00 Noon – 1:15 pm Register Online (President’s Message continued) fellow members at our CFE table at the Executives Club Women’s Breakfast. That sure is starting the New Year with a variety of ways to turn up the heat on your CFE membership! Thank you for letting me share a memorable year as your President. I know that I am leaving you in good hands and that the new executive team and board with the support of Chris Glatz and Kathy Tinker will continue to turn up the heat. They know that 1° more is all it takes to move from good to great. They are committed to building on our successes and keeping CFE the premier network for accomplished women in finance. Julie Goonewardene is pleased to announce she has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Personalized Medicine Coalition (www.personalizedmedicinecoalition.org). High on the list of breakthroughs expected to transform medicine is personalized medicine – the use of new methods of molecular analysis to better manage a patient’s disease or predisposition to disease. Personalized medicine is likely to change the way drugs are developed and medicine is prescribed. Yet the regulatory and financial systems that will support personalized medicine are not yet in place. The mission of the PMC is to build the foundation that underpins the advancement of personalized medicine as a viable solution to the challenges of efficacy, safety and cost. The Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC) was launched in 2004 to educate the public and policymakers, and to promote new ways of thinking about health care. Today, PMC represents a broad spectrum of more than 200 academic, industry, patient, provider and payer communities, as it seeks to advance the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine concepts and products for the benefit of patients.
