Pinehill Announces Simple
Non Invasive Downs Test
for Pregnant Mums
Mr Salvesen, a highly respected Gynaecologist, now
offers a non-invasive test at Pinehill to check for Downs
Syndrome. A simple blood sample is taken from the
mother from 10 weeks and sent off for analysis. The
result of the blood test (Harmony), is accurate to
more than 99% in Downs syndrome, 98% of Edwards
syndrome and 80% of Patau’s syndrome and the results
are known within 14 days. This is great news for couples
because it eliminates the risk of miscarriage which is a
possibility when invasive tests are carried out. This is now
one of the most accurate non-invasive tests to predict the
chance of a chromosomal abnormality in a pregnancy.
The process is very simple;
•An ultrasound scan is carried out
•Blood is taken from the vein in the woman’s arm
(like any other blood test)
•The tubes are immediately packaged and sent
for analysis
•The result is usually available within 12-14 days
The test is currently available at Pinehill for £500
(this includes the initial Consultation with Mr Salvesen)

Mammography Services
Self Referral Non- symptomatic Mammograms
Pinehill is now offering patients the opportunity to self refer
for mammography for an all inclusive price of £160. The
criteria for this service is: aged over 40yrs , have not had a
mammogram in the last 12 months, are not currently under
the care of a breast consultant or oncologist and are not
being monitored as part of a breast family history clinic.
Films will be reported by two consultant radiologists who
specialise in breast imaging, with a letter sent to the patient
and their GP within 14 days.
Rapid Diagnosis
Breast Clinic
Pinehill also offers a rapid diagnosis clinic for symptomatic
patients involving a multidisciplinary specialist team, which
offers results quickly. Clinics are led by respected breast
surgeons Mr Jeremy Wood and Ms Harleen Deol, who
can provide reassurance or arrange early treatment as
appropriate.
Lumps and Bumps
We have launched a Lumps and Bumps Clinic which
includes a ‘mole check’ for self funding patients. The cost
is £120 for an initial consultation with a Plastic Surgeon
who will then be able to offer a procedure in Out Patients
(possibly on the same day) or in Theatre (and also provide
the patient with a cost for the procedure). This service may
be of interest to patients with conditions considered low
clinical priority for NHS funding.

How can private patients access treatment at
Pinehill Hospital?
If you recommend to the patient that they need to see a
consultant, the patient can choose to see a consultant
privately. Patients can choose to either pay for their own
treatment or use private medical insurance. The patient
normally contacts Pinehill to arrange the first out patient
appointment (with an authorisation code from their insurance
company if appropriate) on 01462 427 221
Patients who are paying for their own treatment may not
need a GP referral letter for their initial consultation. Pinehill
also offers an ‘all inclusive’ fixed price for their treatment
which provides price certainty and the reassurance of no
hidden costs. For an estimate, please ask the patient to call
