CRC employees who have been at the college for 20 or more years were invited to participated in a “Longevity Reception” last week. This was a way for President Ed Bush to talk with those who have helped shape the culture of the college and ask about the values they’d like to see moving into the future. Dr. Bush emphasized the value of these members at CRC and said it was a valuable experience. We profiled Zala in Fall 2014 as she was heading back from a summer in India to expand her learning in critical languages, which was sponsored by the State Department. Zaha spent the summer in Lucknow, India to study Urdu. She said “I am very lucky to be a student at the Fletcher School, but am also currently taking a class at Harvard University.” Dr. Jose Morfin visited CRC to speak to the students in the MESA orientation class. Dr. Morfin shared his life story from childhood to becoming a physician/ professor. He spoke of health disparities (and cleverly distinguished between a difference and a disparity… something we can all use in these days of equity vs equality), and his passionate efforts to contribute to more diversity among physicians. CRC MESA alum Ngabo Nzigira, who is currently in his 2nd year at UC Davis School of Medicine in the ACE-PC (Accelerated Competency based Education in Primary Care) program recommended Dr. Mortin to MESA Coordinator Michael Carney. Dr. Mortin practices Nephrology at UC Davis Medical Group in Folsom. Recently, CRC veteran students Sukbhir Sahota, Mariah Peck, and Shoshanna Christner got together with ARC veteran students for lunch at the Waffle Experience in Natomas. The restaurant is owned and operated by military veterans. Photography Professor Jim West was able to secure more than $10,000 worth of lenses and flashes from NASA.
