Rejoice in the Gift of Giving Friday November 19, 2010
2010 St. Matthew’s Christmas Faire
Rejoice in the Gift of Giving
Live and Silent Auction Catalog
Friday November 19, 2010
Six O’clock in the Evening
Dear Ones,
This will be my third Christmas Faire and I am confident that this year will be as joyous as
the past two. When I see the generosity and love of the community that is St. Matthew's
made tangible during the magical Friday evening it warms my heart. As the economy
struggles to recover its footing, the need for the services of our outreach partners grows.
And, while these fiscal woes continue to weigh on all of us, it is a testament to the entire St.
Matthew’s community to see people go the extra mile to contribute and to bid on the
terrific offerings from all of the auctions knowing that every penny will go to the outreach
ministries of our parish.
Yes, all of the net proceeds from the Faire go to the Parish’s outreach partners. This is a
terrific reason to rejoice in the gift of giving at the Christmas Faire with generous hearts –
and open pocket books. People both near and far will benefit from the funds raised
tonight; orphans in Africa, children in Belize, the children of prisoners and the prisoners
themselves, homeless teens and adults will receive help because of the funds raised
tonight. On behalf of the recipients of our outreach grants, I challenge each and every
one of you to join me in making this year's Christmas Faire even more successful in
building community and generating outreach dollars.
The faithful, good souls on the Christmas Faire Committee work tirelessly to make the
annual Christmas Faire both enjoyable for our community and to generate the much need
funds to fuel our outreach partners simultaneously. When you encounter them, thank
them, for they are the heroes of the Christmas Faire. I like the analogy of the duck
swimming smoothly across the surface of a pond. The Christmas Faire, so superbly well
planned and executed seems smooth and effortless just like that duck. But under the
surface and unseen, the orange duck feet are paddling madly. The Christmas Faire
Committee works tirelessly to have the Faire be smooth and accessible to the rest of us
and believe me they have been paddling madly! Please, join me in supporting their efforts
and attend the Faire.
The generous offering of underwriting, of vacations, dinners, wines, gift cards and the
many other treats to be auctioned off on Friday, November 19th are a wonderful way to put
the commercial onslaught of Christmas under the discipline of Christian stewardship. We
can and do have great fun at the Christmas Faire, AND, we do Christ's work in the world
in the process by excelling in generosity as we bid at The Faire.
I cannot think of a better way to rejoice in this season of giving than to care for "the least
of these" whose welfare Jesus places in our hands. Rejoice in the gift of giving and help
bring the blessings of Christ to those in need in the season of Christ's coming! Dear Ones,
come to the Faire!
Love,
Howard
Letter From the Chairs
Event Chairs:
Auction Chairs:
Callene Momtazee and Amy Childress
Lynne Weaver and Heather Kadenacy
Dear Friends of St. Matthew's,
We are delighted to welcome you to the 2010 Christmas Faire. On behalf of the Parish
of St. Matthew and St. Matthew's Parish School, we want to thank you in advance for
supporting this wonderful Christmas tradition. Our theme this year is “Rejoice in the
Gift of Giving.” As we are taught in Luke, “give, and it will be given to you…for the
measure you give will be the measure you get back.” We hope that this evening will
give back to you in ways similar to the blessings the chairs have received in planning it.
We are grateful to all of you who donated your time, energy and other resources to make
this event possible. Thank you; you’ve given us more than we could hope to give back.
All of the net proceeds from this evening will go directly to our Outreach partners (listed
on the following page) and the money raised will literally touch thousands of lives.
We appreciate the spirit and dedication from the entire St. Matthew’s community that
makes this event a success. We want to extend a special thank-you to all our Christmas
Faire volunteers who have devoted endless hours to creating and planning this special

effective Social Service agencies within our county.
EUIP’s mission is to train a new generation of Christian leaders who will spend their

improve the lives of God’s children here on earth.
EUIP is part of the Episcopal Service Corps (ESC), a network of young adult
programs within the Episcopal Church that work for social change and personal
transformation through service to others.
Ojibwa Sustainable Organic Products
The Ojibwa (also known by their Anglican name Chippewa) are amongst the largest group
of Native Americans living in the US and Canada. Their roots on this continent go back
some 500 years.
A little more recently, a gentle soul named Howard Anderson called them neighbors in his
native Minnesota. It is Howard’s wish to share the greatness of the Ojibwa traditions with
our Parish that has enriched our Christmas Faire for the past three years with the Ojibwa
Boutique which sells some of the organic, sustainably produced delicacies produced on
the Minnesota Reservation next to Howard’s childhood home. By purchasing these
products, you support our outreach partners and the Ojibwa economy – and your palette.
Maple Syrup (si-si-ba-kwaf) symbolized good relations between people and harmony
between the physical and spiritual worlds. The sugar-making season (like Thanksgiving)
was a time to give thanks, honor the deceased, and pray for safety, health, and long life.
Wild Rice (mah-no-mim) is a central part of the Ojibwa culture and tradition. The Native
Americans who originally harvested this grain relied on it as an essential part of their
winter food supply. Teams of tribesmen in canoes harvest this rice. Doing so honors the
Ojibwa traditions – and protects the crops The Ojibwas continue to campaign to protect
wild rice standards, combating genetic manipulation, and fighting the misrepresentation
of paddy rice as wild rice.
Muskrat Coffee (or "black medicine" as the Ojibwa call it) is culled from small batches
of specialty from the White Earth Reservation in Northern Minnesota. This coffee comes
from a worldwide market of indigenous communities who grow their beans sustainably.

VOICES ON HIGH
Be blown away by the amazing sound of the LA Master Chorale with two tickets to the concert on 12/12/2010 at the Walt
Disney Concert Hall at 7PM. Grant selected Mozart’s magical re-orchestration of Handel’s beloved Messiah for our classic
holiday offering this season. Mozart added instruments normally used in a late 18th century symphony -- French horns,
flutes, clarinets -- and expanded the strings, giving them a greater role and the popular oratorio a fuller sound. This
symphonic and sensuous arrangement demands every member of the Chorale in this full-length Messiah -- a feast for the
musical palate. This year, you can sit back and bask in the glorious sound of our great chorus as it performs this
traditional favorite.

Robert Parker: 94 Points
This dense ruby/purple-hued offering smells like the essence of raspberry jam intermixed with boysenberries and
blueberries. Exceptionally pure, with a layered mouthfeel and sweet tannin, this is undeniably the finest wine made by
Proprietor Stanislas Wallut since he purchased Domaine de Villeneuve in 1992.
