When Lucas (Vincent Lindon), a divorced industrialist, find himself irresistibly attracted to Elsa (Sandrine Bonnaire), whom he has commissioned to create a fresco for his office foyer, he finds that he can’t trust his own judgement. Still bruised from a recent disappointment in love, (his ex-wife worked for a competitor and spied him for years) he asks his firm’s chief of security (François Berléand in a perfect role) to discover the reasons why this lovely woman is still single. Without the slightest scruple, the detective puts the most modern of surveillance methods into operation. Lucas better beware if Elsa finds out.... LA FRANCE This wayward musical’s story of lost love and the lives of men in the shadow of war, set in 1917, was one of the loveliest, most surprising films of 2008. As the Great War rages on, Camille (Sylvie Testud) receives a mysterious letter from her husband at the front. “Forget about me”, he writes, “you will never see me again”. Determined to find him nevertheless, she ventures into the damp wilderness disguised as a boy and follows a war-weary regiment led by a gruff but kind-hearted lieutenant (Pascal Greggory). Miles from the front line, Camille becomes part of the regiment’s camaraderie and daily rhythms, cautiously guarding her secret while the men keep one of their own. ASTERIX AUX JEUX OLYMPIQUES (Astérix at the Olympic Games) (PG) While out hunting, Asterix and his friend Obelix run across a sports champion of one of the local Roman garrisons named Gluteus Maximus, who is to participate in the Olympic Games. Under the effects of magic potion, they beat the Roman athlete in everything he attempts, temporarily breaking his resolve... MON PETIT DOIGT M’A DIT (By the pricking of my thumbs) Based on a mystery by Agatha Christie. An elderly woman disappears. The town seems to be hiding a dark secret. Tombs that are better left untouched, a mysterious doll that returns from the past, and who (or what?) is killing off a group of pensioners at the local retirement home? It may take some sorting out but Prudence and Bélisaire Beresford (Catherine Frot and André Dussollier) are on the case! For more information check the website.
