Haiti: Situation Snapshot in the IDPs Camps (June 2013) 278,945 people are still living in 352 camps. They represent 18% of the initial IDP individuals displaced, and indicate a decrease of about 82% in the overall IDP population and a 77% decrease in IDP sites compared to 2010. 278,945 IDPs = Critical needs in camps by sector Comparison of the number of IDPs in camps from 2010 - 2013 Key figures = 144,905 (52%) = 134,040 = 352 per camp Anse-à-Galets Arcahaie Pointe -à-Raquette Croix des bouquets 2010 2011 Cabaret Cité Soleil Cornillon Tabarre Thomazeau Delmas Port-au-Prince Gressier Pétion Ville Ganthier Petit- GrandCarrefour Goave Goave Léogane Kenscoff (48%) Source : DTM_Report_March 2013, Eshelter-CCCM Cluster Fact sheet Vallée de Jacmel Jacmel Bainet WASH: According to DINEPA’s monthly WASH survey data (PRAM/PrESRUEC), covering the seven municipalities of the Metro Port-au-Prince/Croix-desBouquets (PPRA-C): Number of IDPs and camps facing forced eviction = 94,702 individuals = 108 camps out of 352 Camp Management: According to the most optimistic forecasts, some 230,000 people could still be living in camps at the end 2013. It is important to continue providing solutions for their return such as: . Distribution of transitional shelters, . Rental grants, . Provision of livelihood programmes, . Mitigation work in the camps. 30% of IDP families living in camps with a site management organization. 2012 2013 (21,000 households) . There are 71.5 people per functional latrine in the camps on average. . More than 260,000 people in the camps have benefited from garbage disposal services in 2013. . A residual Chlorine Surveillance System, SISKLOR, survey revealed the presence of chlorine in the water consumed in the camps, including 80.5% in Port-au-Prince, but only 16% in Delmas. . The two variables surveyed monthly - number of persons per functional shower and percentage of sites with an adequate number of stations hand washing stations - have dropped precipitously over the last year. In April, there were 392 people per functional shower in camps, and only 2% of camp residents had a functional hand washing station. There is need for emergency interventions to improve the situation in the camps, as hygiene is a priority in preventing the spread of cholera are at risk of forced eviction Source : DTM_Report_March 2013 Number of IDPs and camps from 2010 to June 2013 1.5 million IDPs Number of IDPs 0-20,000 40,001-100,000 >100,000 Health: Communes with camps at risk of flooding Malnutrition According to the 2012/2013 FONDEFH nutrition screening report on 7 camps in Metro Port-au-Prince (covering 1,675 children and 1,269 pregnant women): . 4% suffer from severe acute malnutrition (41 girls and 28 boys) . 22% suffer from moderate malnutrition (203 girls and 171 boys) . 26% are at risk of malnutrition (269 girls and 169 boys) . 1.4% of all pregnant women are screened with Timeline of events that have an impact on IDPs Number of IDPs in camps 1,555 camps 20,001- 40,000 2011 2010 2012 278,945 Jan Number of sites 2013 Hurricane season / rainy season Nov Dec Jan Dec Jan June Aug Oct Nov Dec Jan Source: Nutrition cluster May Cholera epidemic 239 cases of cholera confirmed (1% of the population) in the 10 camps monitored.
