GENERAL MANAGER AND RACE DIRECTOR’S GREETING

Welcome to the 36th Annual GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. We look forward to hosting
over 9,000 runners and their families in what has become an annual tradition in Victoria over
Thanksgiving weekend.
Victoria is a small city with a big heart, and as the capital of British Columbia we are extremely proud
of our culture and traditions which encompasses a wealth of history. Part of this history is our sporting
background – not just in running, but in many other disciplines that call Victoria home. With nine
national training centres based here – including triathlon, mountain biking, rugby, rowing, swimming
and para-swimming – we are truly the centre of sporting excellence. Notable athletes are born here and
go on to pursue their own sporting dreams, some even achieve greatness. Steve Nash, Angela Chalmers,
Lori Bowden, Simon Whitfield, Silken Laumann, and Ryder Hesjedal are just a few who have become
icons and role models for many of us.
For many of you this may be your first marathon, half marathon or 8k, or you may be aiming for a
personal best or to qualify for the Boston Marathon. No matter what your goals, congratulations for
making it this far and for choosing Victoria to share your glory. Many runners come back year after year
because of the quality of our event – our garments are coveted, medals are cherished and the scenic
course is remembered for a lifetime. The Race Expo and Speaker Series is packed full of industry experts
who are here to share their knowledge and enthusiasm in all things running.
We wouldn’t have an event like Victoria if not for the support of so many sectors of the community. Our
volunteers are amazing and our dedicated organizing committee put in countless hours in the months
and weeks leading up to Race Weekend. Our sponsors, many of whom have been with us for years,
are invaluable, and as we promote healthy lifestyles in the community, we will continue to develop
partnerships locally that makes an event of this size possible.
We are fortunate to work with some very hard-working charities many of whom make the marathon
their fundraising goal of the year. In addition to the four Official Charities, we have 20 charities in the
CHEK Charity Pledge Program and with the million dollar mark behind us, we are now running towards
the second million.
We hope you enjoy Victoria and encourage you to stay a while to enjoy our beautiful city. Good luck
in your race on Sunday – we will be there at the start line to send you off, and welcome you back at
the finish line.

Race Run Down. Race Director, Rob Reid and General Manager, Cathy Noel.
Are you wondering what to expect on Race Day? The small details can make a big difference to
running a good or a great race. Get your last minute questions answered by Rob and Cathy.
10:30 a.m.
Nutrition for the Long Haul: the Marathon and Beyond. Dr. Trent Stellingwerff.
Nutrition and hydration become exponentially more important in all events over two hours, such as the
marathon and the increasingly popular ultra-marathons and long-distance trail races. Dr. Stellingwerff
talks about best-practices on nutrition and hydration for events from the marathon and beyond,
including new information on what some of the best ultra-runners in the world do for their nutrition and
hydration practices.
11:30 a.m.
Girl Runner: Weaving Fact with Fiction: Cheering for Aganetha. Carrie Snyder.
What would a woman runner share of her experiences in the 1920s? History is as much a story about
what is left unsaid, and interpretation hovers between the remembered and the dismissed. Author
Carrie Snyder weaves together her own experiences, historical details about female athletes in the
1920s, archival and personal photos, and readings from her novel, Girl Runner, which follows the
struggles and sacrifices of a fictional Olympic athlete, Aganetha Smart.
12:30 p.m.
Younger, Faster, Stronger. Margaret Webb.
Margaret shares her mission impossible story: getting fitter after 50 than she was as a Varsity athlete.
Working with a team of experts, leading researchers and elite pioneers of the women’s running boom,
she uncovered the secrets to running strong into our 70s, 80s and 90s.
1:00 p.m.
The Allure of the Ultra: From the depths of Death Valley to the top of Mount Finlayson.
Steve King, Rich Benyo, Rhonda Prevost, Matt Cecill, Lori Herron and Myke LaBelle.
Local and international, present and past ultra-runners offer different perspectives on what it takes to
survive and thrive in long distance events. Whether a spiritual quest, a grueling test of mental and physical
endurance, or a combination of the two, learn and be inspired by their experiences.
2:30 p.m.
The Once and Future Terry Fox: 35 Years. Darrell Fox.
It’s been 35 years since Terry Fox began his epic journey across Canada to raise money and awareness
for the illness that eventually took his life. Join us in remembering his legacy with his brother, Darrell
Fox, and find out how the Terry Fox Foundation, the Terry Fox Research Institute and the Terry Fox
Centre are still, at heart, grass roots organizations, raising money for people affected by cancer and
sharing Terry’s message of hope, courage and determination by creating new and visionary projects.

The Marathon
The GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is an AIMS and Athletics Canada/Run Canada-certified 42.195
km course, and is accepted as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The AIMS/IAAF International Measurement
Certification number is CAN-2014-072-BDC. The Athletics Canada Measurement Certificate number
is BC-2014-119-BDC. Walkers are welcome in the Early Start as long as completion time is less than
seven hours. Baby Joggers and Nordic Poles are not permitted in the Marathon for insurance and
safety reasons. Pace Leaders will be available for the Marathon – for pace times see p.30. The Marathon starts on Menzies at Kingston. Run south, away from the Inner Harbour, turn left on
Michigan and left again on Government Street. Run down a slight decline on Government Street, past The
Fairmont Empress Hotel, and on to Wharf Street. Turn right on Johnson Street, then right on Cook Street.
The first aid station is just past Fairfield Avenue on Cook Street.
Turn right onto Park, right onto Heywood, left on Southgate, and left onto Arbutus, entering Beacon Hill
Park. Arbutus blends left into Bridge Way. Turn right onto Heywood and right onto Circle Drive. Run a
complete counter clockwise loop of Circle Drive and Dallas Road (1-mile), staying to the left, and turn
right on Heywood, and right on Park; completing an early race loop. Turn right on Cook Street. Turn left
on Dallas Road (the second aid station is on Dallas Road near Cambridge) and run to Hollywood Crescent,
keeping to the left. The third aid station is at Dallas Road and Memorial. Stay on Hollywood Crescent,
past its southern intersection with Robertson, until Hollywood blends into Robertson just before the
intersection with Ross and Crescent. Turn right onto Crescent and left on Irving to Fairfield.
Turn left on Fairfield, right onto Richmond, and right again onto Richardson. You’re now approaching
the point where the Marathon route splits from the Half Marathon. The next aid station is beside the
park on Richardson, just before turning left onto Lawndale. Turn right on Quamichan (careful of the
speed bump!) and right again on Cowichan. When Cowichan reaches Richardson, you’re at the 13 km
mark of the race. It’s here that the Marathon goes left and the Half Marathon goes right.
Cross Foul Bay Avenue and Richardson becomes McNeill. Now you run the Oak Bay “finger.” Turn left
onto Hampshire, left on Granite, right on Mitchell, and right on Oak Bay Avenue. Run Oak Bay Avenue
for five blocks. Then turn right on Monterey, left on Windsor, and right on Oliver down to Beach
Drive. Turn left on Beach Drive. The next water stop is just after turning onto Beach Drive, at Transit.
Run the Beach Drive waterfront past the Victoria Golf Club, Oak Bay Marina, Willows Beach and Cattle
Point. The next water stop is just past the Oak Bay Marina at Glenlyon Norfolk School. Turn left on
Exeter and run a few hundred metres to the 180-degree turnaround, staying on the right, and return
along Beach Drive all the way to Oliver. There’s a water stop on Exeter, just after the turn off of Beach
Drive. On the way back along Beach, water stops are again available at Glenlyon Norfolk School, and
at Beach and Transit. Run the Oak Bay “finger” in reverse: Oliver, Windsor, Monterey, Oak Bay Avenue,
Mitchell, Granite, Hampshire, then turn right on McNeill and run back to the half marathon split at
Richardson and Cowichan. The 34 km aid station is at Lawndale and Richardson.
Return along Richardson, left on Richmond, left on Fairfield, right on Irving, right on Crescent, left on
Robertson and left on Hollywood Crescent to Dallas Road.
Continue on Dallas Road westbound, all the way past Beacon Hill Park and the Ogden Point breakwater,
go right on Erie, left on St. Lawrence, right on Kingston, left on Montreal, right on Quebec, left on
Pendray and right onto Belleville to the finish in front of the Legislature. There are water stops every 2 km
in the last stages of the race: at Dallas and Memorial, Dallas and Cambridge, and at Dallas and Oswego.

VICTORIA – A RUNNER’S PARADISE
By Louise Hodgson-Jones
Photos: Simon DesRochers
Victoria has one tradition on Thanksgiving Weekend, and that is the GoodLife Fitness
Victoria Marathon. The 36th annual event on Sunday, October 11, will welcome over 9,000
participants to run the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K Road Race and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run.
In 2014 the marathon was won by Daniel Kipkoech in 2:20:04, and although not a
course record, he finished seven minutes ahead of 2010 and 2011 champion Thomas
Omwenga (2:27:09). Third and top Master was Oliver Utting from Burnaby, BC in 2:29:02. The women’s half marathon field will be led by the course record holder, Natasha Wodak
(2012 – 1:14:06) who is having a phenomenal year. She ran a personal best in the New York
Half Marathon (1:11:20), and also set a 10,000 metre Canadian record in Stanford (31:41).
Wodak could be threatened by three-time winner of the TC10K, Jane Murage, who has a PB of
1:11:30. The half marathon course record still stands from 2002 when Jon Brown ran a 1:02:32.
Returning this year to threaten that is second place finisher from 2014 – Dancan Kasia.
The women’s race had high expectations with 2013 champion, Victoria’s Catrin Jones returning
and Lioudmila Kortchaguina, top master at the 2013 Canadian Marathon Championships,
making her first appearance in Victoria. Kortchaguina won in 2:41:39, a Masters course record.
Eva Vail, from Portland, Oregon, was second in 2:45:54. This was Vail’s debut marathon and
she is coached by husband and US Marathon runner Ryan Vail. Jones was third in 2:46:51.
The 8K Road Race course records have not been broken for over two decades. Gary Barber set
the men’s record of 23:23 in 1989, and Ulla Marquette holds the women’s record from 1991
(26:24). Vancouver’s Theo Hunt, winner of the 2015 Harriers Pioneer 8K, will be in contention,
as will the winner of the 2015 Vancouver Island Race Series, Craig Odermatt. Returning
champion from 2014, Lindsay Carson, will also hope to close the gap on the women’s record.
The Half Marathon was won by Willy Kimosop – his first win in Victoria after placing third in
2012 and 2013. His time of 1:06 was just under a minute shy of his personal best. Dancan Kasia
from Etobicoke, Ontario, was second in 1:08:24 and third was Ramiro Guillen from Goleta,
California in 1:08:32. Victoria’s Jim Finlayson was the top Master with a time of 1:10:04.
The Marathon isn’t just about race day. There is a buzz of activity on race weekend in Victoria,
from the Friday when the sold-out Race Expo opens, through to the Speaker Series and Carbo
Gala Dinner on Saturday, and the awards ceremony on Sunday. The Victoria Marathon Society
continues to add value to the event with its much coveted clothing and souvenir merchandise,
its stunning participant medals and locally crafted awards.
The women’s Half Marathon was won by Anne-Marie Madden from Vancouver in 1:16:35. She
triumphed over two local favourites, and Masters athletes, Marilyn Arsenault (1:17:04) and Lucy
Smith (1:19:48). Arsenault was the top Master.
The 8K saw ex-Victoria native Geoff Martinson win in 23:38, just 15 seconds short of the course
record and the third fastest time ever. Kevin Friesen, also from Vancouver, was second in 24:35,
and third was Calgary’s Trevor Hofbauer in 25:10. Victoria’s Bruce Deacon won the Masters in
25:44 – a new record, beating the record he set in 2013 (26:10).
Lindsay Carson from Whitehorse, Yukon, won the women’s race in 27:15. Second was Sarah
Macpherson (Victoria) in 29:29 and third and top Master was three-time Xterra champion,
Melanie McQuaid (also from Victoria) in 29:56.
In addition to Kortchaguina’s Masters record, a Marathon age-class record was set in the W6064 by Lee Anderson, from Calgary, Alberta, in 3:32:38. In the Half Marathon, Allison Penner
set a new record in the W-Under 19 – 1:25:21; Marilyn Arsenault’s time of 1:17:04 was a new
W45-49 record. In the 8K, in addition to Bruce Deacon’s new Masters record, Nancy Baxendale
set a W50-54 record of 30:49.
This year will see many former winners returning to tackle the marathon course with
expectations of setting new course records. All three men’s champions from 2012, 2013
and 2014 – Omwenga, Mokono and Kipkoech – will be back as will Kortchaguina. Mokono
set the course record in 2013 in 2:13:42. Also in the women’s marathon is Janet CherobonBawcom, a 2012 Olympian (U.S.) with a personal best of 2:29:45. Lucy Njeri is the women’s
course record holder (2011: 2:37:56).

2015 GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon Race Guide
The event has been lauded in the running media for many years for its unique small-town
appeal, beautiful scenic course, generous hospitality and enthusiastic volunteers. Just recently,
In the August 2015 issue of Runner’s World, the Marathon was featured in its Races and Places
section as a ‘must-do’ race in ‘this active person’s paradise.’ Comments from participants
ranged from: “The quality of the swag is the same as, or as better than what bigger races
offer,” to “the race has an incredible cadre of volunteers and all of them are so enthusiastic.”
It is the local aspect that makes this race so special. A ‘run local first’ campaign was
launched for the 2015 event, and the Victoria Marathon Society recognized the 1,500
volunteers who give up their valuable time over race weekend: “This is the year of the
GLFVM Volunteer. We want to recognize the importance of the contributions of our
“local” volunteers. Although this is an international event, with impact on tourism and the
economy -- local volunteers bring it to life,” explains Cathy Noel, General Manager.
Other initiatives such as the CHEK Charity Pledge Program, brings out the philanthropic side
of the event and with over $1.5 million raised over 11 years by fundraising and donations, the
campaign is well on its way to its second million.
‘Small Race with Big Perks’ is how Runner’s World describes the GoodLife Fitness
Victoria Marathon, and it certainly holds its own amongst the big city marathons. For
anyone looking for a destination marathon with charm and amazing scenery, Victoria
is sure to be at the top of the list. Louise Hodgson-Jones is media liaison for the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon, and manages
the content, advertising and design of the annual Race Guide.

RACE DAY INFORMATION
Weekend Weather
The average high temperature on race day is 14°C, or 57°F. Typically it will be between 6°C and 10°C at
8:45 a.m. when the marathon starts. Rain is a possibility so be prepared in the event of showers.
Can I Transfer My Race Entry?
Entries are not transferable. A person running in your place with a different gender or a different age
group can lead to errors in the results, and deny legitimate winners of their justly won prizes. Also, in
the event of an accident or medical condition, wrong information may have serious consequences.
If you are unable to run, you can still pick up your race shirt (if you registered prior to posted
deadlines), at package pickup at the Race Expo. Note: there is no post-race shirt pick-up.
Out-Of-Town Package Pick-up
Limited package pick-up (race number with bib tag) is available only to pre-registered, out-oftown entrants on race day at the Information Tent on Government Street (next to the Gear Check
tents) on the lawns of the BC Legislature from 6:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Pick-up is not available to
local residents on race day.

Parking
Participants should park in the downtown area prior to 7:00 a.m. and walk the short distance to the
start. There will be limited access to the downtown core as the 8K Road Race starts at 7:15 a.m. and the
Half Marathon starts at 7:30 a.m.
Parking is free on Sundays at City parking meters. There is limited parking for participants and volunteers
in the Q Lot at 481 Kingston Street (bounded by Superior, Menzies, Kingston) and the F Lot at 512
Menzies at Michigan. Spots are first-come, first-served. Cars must be in place prior to 7:00 a.m.
Race Routes
It is the responsibility of each runner to know the route. Study the course maps. Do not cross the
centre line, stay on the proper side of the road as directed by signs and marshals. Race officials will
monitor the course and will warn or disqualify violators.
Marathon – Early Start
Participants that are not able to finish the marathon in 5:5 hours or less will start at 6:30 a.m.
Faster marathon participants and half marathoners are not permitted to start at 6:30 a.m. Up
until 8:00 a.m. participants must be on the sidewalk, obey local traffic laws and be self-sufficient
as volunteer support will be limited. Only marathoners are allowed to start at 6:30 a.m. - you
must have the correct colour race number to start early.
Runners with a pace faster than 7:28/km (12:01/mile), finishing the marathon faster than 5 hr 15
min, or crossing the finish line before 11:45 a.m. will be disqualified and their names will be removed
from the official results. This is a safety issue - the far reaches of the course have no marshals
until after 8:00 a.m.
Baby Joggers and Nordic Poles
Baby joggers and Nordic Poles are not permitted in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K
Road Race for insurance and safety reasons. If an accident were to occur between a runner
and a baby jogger or a walker with Nordic Poles, neither party would be covered by our event
liability insurance.

RACE DAY INFORMATION

Race Timing/Numbers
The ‘B’ Tag timing system will be used to time the Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K Road Race. The
‘B’ tag is a single strip RFID tag that is adhered to the backside of your race bib. Do not remove it. It
must be worn on the front of your shirt. Your time is recorded as you cross the timing mats at the start
and finish line. No timing device = no time. Do not crinkle your number, as this will affect the timing
device. Ensure you arrive at the correct start line for the race you have entered. The colour of your race
number identifies which race you are entered in.
Gear Check
Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K Road Race tents are located beside each other on Government
Street beside the Legislature. It opens at 6:00 a.m. Checked items must fit into the provided bags and
you must have the tear off tag from your race number for identification; volunteers will attach it to
the bag for you. The tent closes at 3:00 p.m. All unclaimed bags and miscellaneous items of clothing
will be donated to charity.
Change Tents
Men’s and women’s change tents are located behind the clothing check tents, on the grounds in
front of the Legislature.
Pace Leaders
Pace Leaders will be offered for the Marathon and Half Marathon in 2015. These services are
being provided by the “Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatic Pace Teams” and they will help
you achieve your goals.
Pace Leaders will be running the following goal times:
• Marathon: 3:15, 3:30, 3:40, 3:45, 3:55, 4:00, 4:15 and 4:30.
• Half Marathon 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, and 2:30.
You will have a chance to meet the Pace Leaders during the Race Expo on Friday, October
9th and Saturday, October 10th. Just drop by the “Maniac/Fanatic Pace Team” booth and say
hi, pick up your pace bracelet and ask any questions you may have. No need to sign up before hand, simply look for the Crazy Cat sign with your desired finish time at the
start area and join the group. On race morning, you will find your pace leader in the start corral on
Menzies as of 8:15 a.m. for the Marathon start time of 8:45 a.m., and at 7 a.m. for the Half Marathon start
time of 7:30 a.m.
Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy presents the 14th Annual

and one-mile-to-go marker for the Half Marathon and Marathon. Aid Stations
Old Victoria Water, Ultima Replenisher sport drink stations, and porta-potties will be
located along the course approximately every 3km. Ultima flavours are orange and
red raspberry. Fruit and Honey Stinger Gels, Waffles and Chews will be available at
approximately the 13km (8 miles)/34km (21 miles) mark. Flavours are: Gels - fruit smoothie,

The kids run is a 1.25 km loop. It starts on Menzies just off Kingston, on the west side of the Legislature
where the Marathon and Half Marathon start. The route proceeds down Menzies, then right on Superior,
right on Montreal (watch out for the curb), right on Kingston, and right into the parking lot at the
driveway on Kingston (before Menzies). Participants will continue through the finish line into a corral
in the parking lot off Kingston and Menzies.

BEST SPECTATOR VIEWING SPOTS
You’re a
Marathoner
Clearly you like to do big things!
Catch a giant sized adventure
on the biggest screen in BC
Photos: Simon DesRochers
There are some great spectator viewing spots on route to cheer on your friends. But with road closures
and transit disruptions it can be frustrating to get around Victoria on Race Day. A lot of these spots will
be congested so allow yourself time to get to your desired location. The viewing spots are on the maps
on pages 18, 20 and 22.
V1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 11 can be combined in any fashion you like with some quick walking (or running!) – or
rent a bike from one of the local shops. If you’re adventurous you can bike out to V4, 6 and 9 as well. You
can also use BC Transit to reach these locations – check out routes 1, 2 and 7, but beware of delays and
route changes. Cars are not recommended, unless you plan on driving to a spot and staying there for
a while. Do obey all parking signs, be courteous to road marshals (they are volunteers) and beware of
residential parking areas. You may think you have 50 minutes to get from Oak Bay Village to the finish
line, but parking and traffic can turn the short journey into a nightmare. So park well outside of the race
route and walk in, or get a taxi to drop you off.

V1. Start / Finish Area (all races)
Watch the start of the 8K Road Race on Belleville in front of the Hotel Grand Pacific at 7:15 a.m., and then
catch the Half Marathon start at 7:30 a.m. on Menzies .Then see the Half Marathon and Marathon runners
as they pass the Fairmont Empress Hotel at the 1 km mark where you have a better chance of catching a
glimpse of your runner. Dash back to the finish line for the end of the 8K – the first runners will come in at
about 7:40 a.m. The first Half Marathon runners will be in just after 8:30 a.m., with the Marathon kicking
off at 8:45 a.m. as well. The Marathon champion will come in at approximately 11:00 a.m., giving you a
couple of hours to soak in the atmosphere and explore the inner harbour - or to look after your runner if
they’ve run the 8K or the Half Marathon.
V2. Terry Fox Statue (8K, Half, Marathon)
Alternatively, head to Douglas and Dallas and the Terry Fox statue. The first runners will reach Mile ‘0’ at
around 7:30 a.m. and you’ll get to cheer your runner on at the top of the hill at 3 km, and again on their
way back at the 5 km mark. If you stay at Mile ‘0’ you can watch the Half Marathon runners go through
twice at 7 km and 18 km (7:50 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. for the leaders) and the Marathon runners at 7 km and
39 km (9:05 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. for the leaders). Refresh yourself at the Beacon Hill drive-in on Douglas,
or take a walk along the beautiful Dallas Road waterfront with views of the Olympic Mountains. Also take
in the Charity Cheering Zone just down the hill on Dallas Road.
V3. Cook Street Village (Half and Marathon)
Position yourself in Cook Street Village and you have a wealth of coffee shops and eateries to sustain
you as you watch the runners go by. The first Half Marathon runners reach the Village at about 8:00 a.m.
Stand at the bottom of Park Blvd on Cook St and you can watch them go past twice at the 4.5 km and
8 km markers. When the last runner has gone through, walk up Cook to Dallas Road and watch the Half
Marathon runners go through the 17 km mark. The leaders will go past at about 8:20 a.m., and a runner

on a 5 min/km pace will hit this mark at about 8:55 a.m. By now the Marathon will have started, with the
leaders reaching Park and Cook at 9 a.m., doing a loop of Beacon Hill Park before reappearing 10 minutes
later. Relax and enjoy the Village and Beacon Hill Park for the next hour, before the Marathon runners
return from 10:40 a.m. onwards at the 38 km marker on Dallas Road. Also take in the Charity Cheering
Zone on Dallas Road, east of Cook Street. This spot is accessible by car – but park to the east of Cook
Street and beware of resident parking zones.
V4, 5. Clover Point/Ross Bay Cemetery (Half/Marathon)
Cheer on the Half Marathon and Marathon runners at the 16 km/37 km mark as they tackle their last
hill. There’s an aid station and entertainment zone at the start of the hill by the cemetery and the
Charity Cheering Zone at the top of the hill. Walk through the cemetery to Fairfield Plaza for shops and
refreshments.

V6. Richardson/Pemberton Park (Half/Marathon)
This is one of the busiest aid stations on the course and is a very accessible point by car. The Half
Marathon turns around and heads for home here (13 km), while the Marathon runners go through
twice at 13 km and 34 km. For a different type of aid station, check out the Hash House Harriers
“Beverage Stop” just down Richardson, past Pemberton Park.
V7, 8. Oak Bay Village & Marina (Marathon)
Oak Bay Village and Marina allows you to see the Marathon runners four times (15 km, 19.5 km, 27 km,
and 32 km) with relative ease. If you’re travelling by car, park in the side streets to the NE of Oak Bay
and walk to Oak Bay Ave. The first Marathon runners will appear at about 9:30 a.m. After watching your
runner pass along Oak Bay Ave and down Monterey, head west on Oak Bay Ave. Don’t head down the
hill on Newport, but continue straight down Oak Bay Ave and the pedestrian pathway to Beach Drive.
Here you can catch the runners again – and walk 200m north to take in the entertainment zone. After the
runners have passed you going out to the Marathon turnaround and back again (leaders at about 9:45
a.m. – 10:05 a.m.), retrace your steps to Oak Bay Ave as the leaders pass the 32 km mark just after 10:15
a.m. Oak Bay Village has a multitude of shops and cafes to feed and entertain you as well.
V9. Willows Beach (Marathon)
Another easily accessible spot – the Marathon passes through twice at 20.5 km and 26 km. Shops
and coffee is available just around the corner in Estevan Village on Estevan Ave.
V10. Ogden Point (8K / Half / Marathon)
Just down the hill from the Terry Fox statue, watch the 8K go past twice and the Half and Marathon
runners as they start their last mile. There are refreshments at the Ogden Point Café, and runners’ aid
station and Charity Cheering Zone just up the hill. Walk or bike to this spectator spot.
