It sounds like they both had interesting lessons. This coming Sunday will be the first Sunday in November. We usually think of November as “thanksgiving time”. With this attitude in our hearts, I want to share with you a four-part study of worship. “Reason to Worship” will be our sermon this coming Sunday morning. “Bowls of God’s Wrath” (Rev. 15-16) will be our evening lesson as our study of Revelation continues. Trunk-N-Treat is scheduled for this Thursday night (Oct. 30th). Cars will be set up in front of Winston Hall. Activities will begin at 6:30 and end at 8pm. Come and share your trunk of goodies with the children, it will be a fun night. Halloween is about transforming yourself into someone that you are not. Par ents ar e busy buying up costumes for their children or perhaps creatively making them using their imagination. Little children will take on the identity of their favorite character, pretending to be someone different than who they are. Fun and games for everyone involved! On the other hand, I remember Paul talking about “false apostles and deceitful workers transforming themselves into apostles of Christ” (2 Cor. 11:13). It is easy to be misled when people deceive you about who they really are. Even today, men and women don’t just stand up and identify themselves as teachers of what it not true. In the name of God, many things are taught and promoted that God Himself would never approve. Check out for yourselves what you hear from those who claim to be “preachers” or “Bible scholars”, lest you be deceived. Satan is a master of disguise. “For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). It would be so much easier to avoid sin if Satan really was bright red with two horns and a pitch fork! When you don’t recognize your enemy, the battle becomes much tougher. Beware of the devil’s trickery, thinking before you leap. Wolves may come in sheep’s clothing and the ugliness of sin in beautiful attractions. Do not let Satan “take advantage of you, be not ignorant of his devices” (2 Cor. 2:11). Do you remember the words of Terri Gibb’s song, “Somebody’s Knocking” (1981)? Her words describe what I’ve been trying to tell you…Somebody’s knocking, should I let him in? My, it’s the devil, would you look at him. I’ve heard about him, but I never dreamed, he’d have blue eyes and blue jeans!” If ever in doubt, look behind the mask. Thursday we catered food for the UTM Christian Student Center. There were over 70 college students in attendance that night. We want to say thanks to all those who prepared desserts for that, they were delicious. Friday night we had a home game and a big tailgate before the game. The chicken was great but the fellowship was even better. For those who came out to support our Rebels, thank you! Saturday Beau & Kara Atkins opened up their home and hosted our toddler -4th grade family hayride. We had a great day to enjoy some good food and some great fellowship followed by a wonderful hayride. I also want to say thanks to Ken & Valerie Sanders, Joe & Jen Baumgartel, and Brian & Sarah Sanders for their help in this event. Sunday night our Ms-Hs students went to the home of Patrick & Tracy Forgy for our monthly devotional. We had some great food (prepared by some great ladies), while we sat around the fire pit.
