Aims and Scope:
In today's digital age, intercultural communication, international communication, mass media, new
technologies, and education are becoming increasingly intertwined, hence rapidly altering the
traditional modes of obtaining information, learning, teaching, and human interaction. Despite these
changes, the good news is that the significance of knowledge and education is gaining greater
momentum than ever before.
Education remains a key factor for individual growth and national development, and, thanks to the
Internet and digital technologies, it will no longer be confined to the geographic boundaries of
nation-states. In a world in which practically everything around us is changing in a dizzying pace, it
is essential for us to understand the challenges and opportunities of the information age within the
contexts of culture, media, education, and globalization. The implication of these dynamic changes
will be discussed by researchers, scholars, authors, and professionals, from throughout the
world, in a small and uniquely collegial and interactive conference in Krakow, Poland.
For Poland, situated in the center of Europe, a country which in 1989 escaped from communist
totalitarianism, globalization in all its facets, especially in communication is nowadays particular
challenge. Historically, on one hand this is a place of mass extermination of people during World
War II (e.g. Auschwitz created by the Nazis); on the other hand this is a country, which gave to the
world one of the most communicative popes in all of history, "the global one", John Paul II.

Biographies of the Speakers:
Dr Yahya R. Kamalipour is professor of mass and international communication and head of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts
and Director of Center for Global Studies, Purdue University Calumet,
Hammond, Indiana, USA. His areas of interest and research include globalization, media impact, international communication, advertising, cultural
diversity, stereotyping, Middle East media, and new communication technologies. Among his 14 published books are: The Right to Communicate:
Historical Hopes, Global Debates, and Future Premise (with M. Eid & A.
Darkoury, 2009); The Media Globe: Trends in International Mass Media
(with L. Artz, 2007); Global Communication, 2nd edition (2006), and other
volumes. In addition to serving on the advisory and editorial boards of several prominent communication journals and professional organizations, Kamalipour is the founder and managing editor of a
groundbreaking digital online academic publication, Global Media Journal (www.globalmediajournal.com) with 15 confirmed and established independent editions around the world. He is also founder
and director of the Global Communication Association (www.globalcomassociation.com), cofounder and co-editor of Journal of Globalization for the Common Good (www.commongoodjournal.com) and co-editor of the Global Media Studies Book Series for the State University of New York
Press. Kamalipour earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication (Radio-TV-Film) at the University of
Missouri-Columbia, M.A. degree in Mass Media at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and B.A.
degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations) at the Minnesota State University. He has been at

Prof. Leon Dyczewski, priest, Full Professor of Sociology; Director of Social
Academy in Lublin; and Director of Postgraduate School of Social
Communication and Journalism, Paul John Catholic University of Lublin.
Born in Małopole, Poland, his Scientific Interests include culture, family,
social communication, in particular the following topics: cultural stability and
cultural changes, values in the modern society, life styles, small groups and
their cultural creating functions, dominant and alternative culture, ethnic and
cultural identity, integration of the ethnic groups, national culture and
European culture, changes of the family, electronic media in society and
family. Promotor of 178 masters and 27 doctors. Member of: the Scientific
Society of the Catholic University of Lublin; the Polish Sociological Society; the Scientific Council
of the Institute of Johan Paul II (and secretary of the Council); the Research Institute for Philosophy
in Hannover; the Committee of the Problems of Labor and Social Policy by Polish Academy of
Sciences, the Committee of Sociology by Polish Academy of Sciences. Academic positions 1966 till now Professor of sociology, catholic social thought and social communication at the Franciscan
Higher Seminar in Łódź 1969 - 1984 assistant and associate professor of sociology at the Paul John
Catholic University of Lublin 1984 - till now Professor of sociology and social communication at the
John Paul Catholic University of Lublin and chairman of the Department of Sociology of Culture.

Dr Howard Cohen has been Chancellor at Purdue University Calumet since
July 2001. He also holds an appointment as Professor of Philosophy. Cohen
was previously Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (1995-2001); Interim Provost and Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs (1993-95) and Dean of the School of
Liberal Arts (1991-93) at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Prior to his
time in Wisconsin, Cohen was a faculty member and administrator at the
University of Massachusetts-Boston. Cohen is the author of two books:
Power and Restraint: The Moral Dimension of Police Work (with Michael
Feldberg) and Equal Rights for Children. He has also written extensively on
philosophical issues relating to the exercise of authority. He has taught and consulted extensively on
police authority and police ethics. His current interests include the ethical responsibilities of
leadership. Cohen holds a BA in Philosophy, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota
(1966) and both an MA and PhD in philosophy from Harvard University (1970, 1971). He is a
member of Phi Betta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
Prof. Michał Drożdż, priest, is Professor of Philosophy, Media Theory
and Social Communication, Theology of Media, Editor. He holds a PhD of
the humanities in the theory of knowledge and social communication. He
is the Director of Institute for Journalism and Social Communication at the
Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków; the Head of Media and
Social Communication Department in the Faculty of Social Studies at
UPJPII. His area of interests include philosophy of media, ethics of media,
philosophical aspects of theory of information and media, relations John
Paul II with media, philosophy of science and nature, ethics, philosophy of
knowledge. The author of dozens articles from different areas: philosophy
of sciences, philosophy of media, theory of media, ethics of media. Among
his 10 published books are: Faktizität und Möglichkeit (2001); Osoba i
media. Personalistyczny paradygmat etyki mediów (2004), Logos i ethos mediów. Dyskurs
paradygmatyczny filozofii mediów (2005), Media. Teorie i fikcje (2006), Etyczne orientacje w
mediosferze (2006), Radio plus Dobra Nowina (2007). He is the Chairman of the Section „Axiology
of Communication” Polish Social Communication Society, the Vice-Chairman of the Polish Media
and Journalism Education Association, a member of The Polish Journalists Association, The
Catholic Journalists Association, and other Polish and international scientific associations.
Dr Tomasz Płudowski is Editor in chief of Global Media Journal—Polish
Edition, published online by the Collegium Civitas of Warsaw. In 2007 he
was Senior Fulbright Scholar at Stanford and in 1998 a Kościuszko
Foundation Fellow at NYU. His publications include the first Polish
academic monograph on Political Communication in American Electoral
Campaigns (PWN, 2008), How the World’s News Media Reacted to 9/11
(Marquette Books, 2007) and some entries in Encyclopedia of Political
Communication (Sage, 2007). Recently he co-translated The Oxford
Handbook of Political Behavior (PWN, forthcoming in 2010). Dr.
Płudowski is often approached for political commentary by top Polish media
organizations and press agencies such as RAI, TVN24, Wietrzne Radio
Chicago, TokFM, Rzeczpospolita, TVP Info, Polsat News, Polskie Radio,
etc. In 2009 he provided live commentary on Vice-President Biden’s official visit to Poland to
TVN24, and on President Obama’s inauguration ceremony to another 24-hour news channel.

Presentation of Papers
A 400-word abstract of the paper should be sent as an email attachment by August 15, 2010. The
abstract should include research objectives, methodology and significance followed by keywords.
All scholarly methodologies are welcome. Files must be DOC or PDF send to [email protected] with
subject line GCA Conference in email.
Length and Settings:
The full-length paper should be around 4000-5000 words, 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman 12point attribute. Margins should be set at 1.0" on all sides. Paper size should be set for A4. The
American Psychological Association (APA) style must be used for referencing.
