A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
MR. DELAUGHTER EMAIL: [email protected]
It’s that season
again… no… not
Spring… Assessment
Season! We have already administered the
Applied Skills portion of
the ISTEP in grades 3
and 4. Next week it’s
IREAD3 for grade 3
(March 18-20), and
then the multiple
choice section of the
ISTEP in late April-early
May (April 29-May 8). I
can’t stress enough the
importance of making
sure your children
come to school and are
on time. Of course, if
your children are sick,
they need to stay
home, but children do
much better during the
initial administration of
the test than during
make-up sessions. Throughout these
windows, our K-2 teachers will be conducting
mClass testing and progress monitoring well
into May.
On a different note,
I just want to express
my gratitude for all the
support this Peifer community has given to
charitable organizations
throughout the
year. Giving selflessly
throughout the year
teaches our students the
importance of philanthropy. I am always delighted at the amount of
money our students
raise for others. I am so
proud to be connected
to the people here at
Peifer. Have a wonderful Spring Break (but not
until the last week of
this month.)
Mr. DeLaughter

Math-A-Thon
In partnership with Invent Now, Lake
Central School Corporation is
pleased to offer the nationallyacclaimed Camp Invention program
to children entering grades one
through five this summer. This exciting, weeklong adventure in creativity
immerses children in imaginative
play that reinforces and supplements
school-year learning in the subjects
of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Children will
work together to seek innovative solutions to real-world challenges and
sharpen critical 21st century learning
skills such as teamwork and creative
problem solving as they rotate
through four modules each day that
disguise learning as fun.
This exciting week of four fun-filled
modules begins on June 3 and lasts
till June 7. Lake Central teachers will
guide students through the Camp
Invention CREATE program at
Kolling Elementary. In the Problem
Solving on Planet ZAK® module,
children will crash-land on an alien
planet, where they collect important
data about its environment to help
them design shelters and spacesuits
able to survive the planet’s harsh
living conditions. Children will explore “green” city design and create
an eco-friendly infrastructure by instituting pollution-free water filtration
systems, landfills, waste disposal
systems, and transportation powered
by renewable resources in the Saving Sludge City™ module. In the I
Can Invent: Launchitude™ module,
children will take apart broken or unused appliances using real tools and
re-engineer the gears to invent an
awesome Duck Chucking Device!
Finally, in the Geo-Games™ module,
classic high-energy games will be
fused with global fun.
Lake Central teachers will facilitate
program modules, and enthusiastic
high school and college students will
serve as Leadership Interns – ensuring that one staff member is in place
for every eight children.
Register on or before March 28,
2013 to receive $25 OFF the base
price. If you register online, you will
receive an extra $5 off! Every registration includes a free Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so
visit www.campinvention.org or call
800.968.4332 to reserve your child’s
spot today!
A Note from Nurse Nancy
New Immunization Requirements
All students in grades 3 – 4 – 5 in the state
of Indiana will have new mandatory immunization requirements for the 2013 – 2014
school year. Notification of this will be sent
home with your student within the next couple of weeks. Please pay close attention to
this information and visit your doctor or the
county health department to receive the required immunizations. Students who are not fully immunized will be
excluded from school. Thank you in advance for complying with this
new state regulation. ~ Nurse Nancy
Thank you to everyone that donated to
St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
during this years Math-A-Thon. We
raised approximately $2600 this year.
Peifer school has raised over $40,000
since 2003! Great job to all!
Dollars For Scholars Penny Wars
The students of Peifer School had a goal
of $3000 for the week. By the end of
the day Friday, they raised $4088.08!
Because the goal was met, the men at
Peifer School (Mr. DeLaughter, Mr.
Huwig, Mr. Terry, Mr. Gnaden and Mr.
Joe) will be dyeing their hair a bright
color, next week.
Also, the following are the top ranking
classrooms:

3rd Place - Mrs. Izsak (Smoothies and
pretzels)
