WELCOME TO
DELAMAR ACADEMY
When I started the Academy in 1986, my goal
was to provide students with an excellent
training in all areas of make-up and hair, taught
by top professional make-up artists, who were
all active in the industry. I ensured that the
tutors were as passionate about teaching as they
were about working on film sets, fashion shoots
and theatrical productions, in order to inspire
and encourage the students.
I am very proud of the success of our
graduates over the last 25 years, who
represent some of the leading make-up
artists in the industry today. Delamar
Academy is the only UK make-up school to
have trained winners of 2 Academy Awards
in the US, 3 in the UK, one in India and one
in Italy – other awards include 3 Emmys, a
Vogue Make-up Artist of the Year (India), a
Fashion’s Finest, the Annual Kingfisher Award
(India), a Femina award (India), and 3 BBC
Vision Design trainee awards and 6 Skillset
trainee awards.
Delamar Academy is a family run academy, with
the emphasis on individual attention to the
students, passion and enthusiasm for make-up
and hair, and a love of Films,TV, Fashion and
Theatre. We have always strived to encourage
every student to fulfil their potential, and the
high level of creativity and excellent standard of
work produced reflects this commitment. Our
students are confident in the knowledge that
when they leave the Academy they have had the
best training possible.
We work hard to help every student on their
career path, by providing work experience and
job placements, as well as regular one-to-one
guidance and advice, both during and after
the course. The high success rate of Delamar
graduates working in the Film,TV,Theatre and
Fashion industries all over the world has led
to our excellent reputation. Not every student
chooses to work on a film set – across the
world we have graduates running their own
companies, beauty schools, and cosmetic ranges.
Seeing our graduates become the best of their
generation over the last 25 years has given me
tremendous personal satisfaction, and continues
to do so.
Once learned, make-up is a skill that cannot
be taken from you – a worthwhile possession
in the changing fortunes of modern times.
We look forward to welcoming you to
Delamar Academy!

The Academy has provided a fantastic nurturing environment to start my
career in make-up and hair. The staff and tutors are really hard working and
want all students to try to achieve their best. I have made a lot of friends at
the academy and it is a real relief to have that support from fellow students
and the team there. Truly one of the best decisions I have made.

ABOUT OUR
COURSES
We believe that the best way to learn the
skills of make-up and hair artistry is to start
actively taking part from day one in the
learning process.
All our courses are fully practical, hands-on,
taught by tutors who are all working industry
professionals with years of experience in
their field of expertise. We tend to avoid
the lecture format, and most of the time is
spent in workshops and completing practical
exercises.
Our aftercare system is very strong, and
I love hearing from graduates once they
have finished the course, and are working –
despite the long hours and hard work, their
enthusiasm and enjoyment of the job is very
satisfying.
It is important to us that we produce not
only great make-up artists, but professionals,
who are able to enter the industry straight
after completing their course. Working as a
make-up artist is exciting, creative, fun and
challenging, and we are thrilled for all the
Delamar alumni who have realised their
dream, and are working in a job they love.

TESTIMONIALS
Testimonial from Emily Coughlin
(Complete Make-up Artist Course,
2013):
“Since moving back to the states I have been
working in an effects lab where I’ve been
sculpting / moulding/ casting prosthetics as
well as some life casting. I’m learning so much
every day at the lab but of course the only
reason I ended up in my current position is
because I already learned so much from the
amazing artists at Delamar! I’ve been working
on set as well, and now that film season is
picking back up there are quite a few projects
on the horizon over the next few months. My
boss took me on immediately because he was
so impressed with my portfolio straight out of
school and I have my teachers from Delamar
to thank for that. Please tell Vicki and Amanda
I said ‘hi’ and send them my love – they were

academy did for me. I miss you all so much and
have nothing but amazing, fun and enriching

2005 – 2006 1 Year HE Cert. Course and
enjoyed every moment of it! Not only are the
instructors industry professionals whose keen
wisdom inspires and encourages, the facilities
are beautiful, with large rooms.
Attending Delamar provided me with the vast
amount of skills needed to become
a successful film and TV Make-up Artist. I had
the choice of many schools in America, but
I chose Delamar because of its excellent
reputation, which I can fully agree with!
I recently moved to Los Angeles, the home of
it all, and two years since my graduation, the
lovely people at Delamar are still helpful and
provide me with support and contacts to make
my way a lot easier! Choosing Delamar was the
most important decision I’ve ever made, and I’m
happy to say it was a very smart one!’
Testimonial from Jo Frost
(Complete Make-up Artist Course
1989):
‘Once again, I would like to thank you and
the whole team at Delamar Academy for all
your brilliant teaching as well as the advice
and support that has been there since the day
that I left. Although I am working in Fashion,
it was incredibly important to learn all the
aspects of the trade because it has put me in
a fantastic position where I can do almost any
job in the industry, as special effects are being
increasingly used in highbrow fashion and
art. Also, being able to style hair has opened
up a number of jobs for me as it makes you
instantly more employable if you can do both’.
Testimonial from Holly Edwards
(1 Year Course 2007-2008):
‘I have just completed the 1 Year HE
Certificate in Professional Make-up Design
Course at Delamar which has been a truly
incredible experience. I have learnt more than
I thought was possible and am so proud of
what I have achieved so far. Each and every
tutor has generously shared their knowledge
and skills with us and are enthusiastic with
their teaching. I have enjoyed working on
a number of work placements so far, one
of which was on ‘Wolfman’ with Universal
Studios. This was a fantastic placement which
gave me a great insight into the film industry
and was an opportunity to put my skills to
good use and to gather more knowledge. This
year has been life changing and I’m so glad I
took the course and would recommend it to
anyone looking to enter the industry. I’m now
looking forward to building up my career!’
Since graduating from the course, Holly
has worked on a many TV dramas and fims,
including Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’,
and ‘Game of Thrones’ on location in Croatia.
Testimonial from Katy Cherry
(1 Year Course 2006-2007):
‘I spent a long time researching different
courses and Delamar Academy stood out
from the rest. For anyone thinking about
pursuing a career in make-up, I would highly
recommend to come here.
Delamar has small class sizes, excellent
facilities where you learn about all the
different areas of make-up, hair and special
effects.You receive exceptional professional
help and support from the tutors and staff
who are all still active in the industry and,
since graduating, have helped me to find
17
work and make good contacts.
I specialised in the 5-week advanced
prosthetics course and created my own
prosthetic piece. I learned about the whole
prosthetic process from life casting, mould
making, sculpting, colouring and hair punching
the foam latex to make-up application.
Since leaving in July 2007, I’ve had work
experience on Terry Pratchett’s ‘The Colour
of Magic’ (SKY1), ‘Harry Potter and the HalfBlood Prince’ (Warner Bros.) and worked
with the make-up/prosthetics department on
a Horror Feature Film ‘Nowhere’ for Pseudo
Productions Ltd. I am presently working for
Coulier and Harrison FX on ‘Merlin’ for
the BBC. I feel that the tutors and everyone
at Delamar have given me the skills and
confidence to make my career in this
fantastic industry and I will be eternally
grateful to them. This was the best decision I
have ever made and I loved every minute of
it! Good Luck!’
I love that you still
get support even
after you finish the
course, so you don’t
