n the years since its inception almost a decade
ago, The Legends Ride has taken root as one of
the Sturgis Rally’s legendary happenings. With
its attraction to some of the biggest names in television, film, music and motorcycling and one hundred percent of riders’ contributions benefiting
the selected charities, it’s unquestionably the Ride
that RocksTM. Donations for the Ride, slated for
tomorrow, Monday, August 8, in Deadwood, total
over $420,000 since it began in 2008.
Due to its high profile and celebrity appeal The
Legends Ride has been featured on CMT, National
Geographic, the Tonight Show, FX Network and the
Travel Channel, as well as in countless online and
print media articles. For 2016, billionaire businessman and philanthropist John Paul DeJoria; movie
and TV star Tom Berenger; actor Bruce Dern;
writer, director, producer and actor Carmine Cangialosi, and Moonshiner Josh Owens will ride. A
host of motorcycle industry leaders such as Leticia
Cline, Carey Hart, Arlen, Cory and Zach Ness, John
Shope, and Keith Terry have confirmed they will
“The Ride that RocksTM” is way more than a ride. It’s a jam-packed day of motorcycle madness, music, and
making a difference for local charities. Don’t miss the chance to be part of something bigger, much bigger,
than most riders have ever experienced.
attend, and you can, too, by visiting www.legendsride.com.
If you’ve never done it, here’s what you can expect:
Riders check in, get their swag bags, and literally
take over the town of Deadwood. Motorcycles pack
the streets, staged in lines too long to count. There’s
a palpable buzz as people gather in front of the Silverado Franklin for special guests, interviews, and
the live auction of two spectacular custom motorcycles from The Buffalo Chip Challenge, a program
that teams up high school students in the Black Hills
with motorcycle industry leaders to promote tech-
nical education. This year, two stunning custom
motorcycles resulted: a fully customized John Shope
Signature 2015 Indian Chief Classic and a Rusty
Jones Signature 2016 Victory Cross Country. These
two spectacular motorcycles are rolling testimony
to the way motorcycling comes together to raise the
tide for everyone: students gain skills while Special
Olympians reap benefits.
For the past three years, Legends Ride contributions have solved the dilemma of transporting

SCHEDULE
Black Hills Special Olympics athletes to practices
and events; now the need for a training facility
is a priority.
“I couldn’t think of an organization more
deserving of our help than Special Olympics,” said
Rod Woodruff, Buffalo Chip President. “When
the kids come to events, and we see how happy
and proud they are to have the van we purchased,
it is abundantly evident we are making a difference in their lives and in the Black Hills community. Now they need a place to train and we are
ready to step up and help them with that too.”
So $100,000 in future Legends Ride fees
have been pledged to renovate an existing facility to create a permanent facility for area Special
Olympians.
Several additional unique auction items will
also be presented, such as a hand-painted Biltwell
helmet by artist Darren McKeag and a hand-built
still from Moonshiner Josh Ownes - proceeds
from which benefit Legends Ride charities, too.
As great as it feel to do good for others, that’s
just part of the day for Legends Riders. Following the auction, they ride out of Deadwood on
a guided romp through the beautiful Black Hills
amid hundreds of rumbling bikes, meeting up
at the Buffalo Chip for an exclusive, riders-only
reception complete with complimentary food and
drinks. The day is capped off as riders party like
rock stars with admission into the Buffalo Chip
amphitheater for headlining performances on the
main stage from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Elle King.

CALLING ALL COMPETITORS
Get your game on, and win some swag!
I
f you’ve got a hidden talent or a competitive
streak, the Buffalo Chip is the destination
at the end of your journey! Why? Because
in addition to world-class concerts, legendary
rides, badass bike shows, and smokin’ hot racing action, the Chip plays host to a huge variety
of crazy-fun contests — and we’ve added some
doozies this year. It doesn’t matter if pickle lickin’
is your thing or if you can burp your ABCs; the
Chip’s got a contest you can enter and win!
Check the daily Showcase Schedules in this
paper for locations and times, then sign up to
play. Hey, you’re on vacation, right?
• Because many of the contestants are already
wearing bikinis, Bikini Beach is home to the sexiest contests at the Chip. There’s Ultimate Rope
Swing, Beers & Burps, Frozen T-shirt and Homemade Bikini, to name a few. New this year: A Slip
‘n Slide Relay and Whipped Cream Twister! And
they happen all week long.
• The Air Sex Championships were new last
year and Chipsters took the competition like
the naturals they are. Shows take place at Bikini
Beach where host Chris Trew agitates, instigates,
and moderates as audience members vie for recognition. It’s one of the wackiest shows you’ll
ever see — or participate in. Recommended
preparation: have a Bud and a shot of Rebel Yell
before you take the stage.
• Fan Fest, the social media meet and greet at
the CrossRoads on Sunday, August 7, is the place
for these zany contests: Cherry Pie Eating, Fake
Orgasm, Best Beard, Arm Wrestling, Stud Contest and Beer Belly. Winners can score zipline
tickets and 2017 passes.
• If you want to win classic Chip merch, play
“Where’s Woody” in the pages of this paper, the
Sturgis Rider Daily. Each day there’s a different
Woody caricature hidden in a photo of an event
or at a location he especially recommends. The
first three readers who report their find to the
Chamber of Commerce/Rally Info Center at the
Chip Crossroads win a prize.
• The Sassy & Classy Over 35 Model Search
gives a nod to ladies who’ve still got it. The winner parties like a VIP and everyone else gets an
eyeful of some of the prettiest ladies at the Chip.
It happens Wednesday at the CrossRoads.

you a winner.
• Burn it up every night at the Jagermeister Steel

and ripping good fun.
• If profiling for glory and prizes is your game,
there’s a slew of Bike Shows at the CrossRoads.
There are free ride-ins plus several that require a
small registration fee. Some are sponsored by industry magazines such as Easyriders and Full Throttle.
In addition to awards and goodies your bike just
may be “discovered” by an editor!
• World Federation Pickle Lickin’ contests happen at the Kinison Stage every day at 5 p.m. with
the Chip’s own Hank Rotten. Show off your skills
and take home some cold cash plus a souvenir jar of
Woody Gherkins.
• The lovely Miss Buffalo Chip contestants take
the Wolfman Jack stage every night after the headliner. The prize? Getting to watch a parade of the
hottest biker babes on the planet every night of
the week.

SRD: I don’t think many
campgrounds have their own Water Tower. What’s
the story behind it?
RW: “The water tower had been given to a
charity by the town of Osage, Wyoming, but they
couldn’t use it and wanted to get it out of the way.
So we picked it up in pieces and brought it here.
A good friend named Dave Vice, a biker who’d
been everywhere and learned how to do about
everything, put it together in 2003. Dave drank a
bit, but he was the Chip’s first master handy man,
a skilled welder, biker extraordinaire — and he
wasn’t a bad campfire cook, either.
Dave took it as a personal challenge to find all
the pieces of that water tower, bent them back into

it’s not there just for looks. It’s there to provide
water pressure for the entire campground’s water
system of approximately 22 miles of water line
that services more than 5000 faucets.”

FLYING PISTON BUILDERS BREAKFAST
Be the first to try Sandy’s Sweet Roll-er
P
ut down that cup of coffee and come have
breakfast with some of the industry’s top
custom builders, right now, this morning at
the Buffalo Chip CrossRoads. It begins at 9 a.m.
and it’s open to everyone. Tickets are $20, available at the door.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast, including the debut
of the Flying Piston’s signature pastry, Sandy’s Sweet
Roll-er with Rebel Yell Bourbon glaze. Then bid
on silent auction items and enjoy one-on-one time
with the men who designed and fabricated the epic
machines presented in the Motorcycles As Art Exhibition, curated by famed photographer Michael
Lichter. Additional builders who participated in
prior shows will also be on hand, plus special guests
like Chip Owner Rod “Woody” Woodruff, Cycle
Source Editor Chris Callen, Leticia Cline, artist Darren McKeag and Moonshiner Josh Owens.
THEY’VE GOT IT!
And you can feel extra good about attending
because proceeds benefit the Buffalo Chip’s Technical Education Scholarship Fund for high school
grads pursuing training and veterans returning to
private industry. Meet our first scholarship recipient,
Logan Lucas, at the breakfast.
The Flying Piston Builders Breakfast is made possible by Jekill & Hyde Exhaust, Yelvington USA,
Kuryakyn, Mustang Seats, Cycle Source and Misfit
Industries — and our host, the Buffalo Chip. Meet
reps from all of these companies and learn more
about them.
The Motorcycles As Art exhibition is installed
at the Buffalo Chip’s Russ Brown Event Center
near the Chip’s East Gate and is open from 2 to 10
p.m. daily, August 7-12. Admission to the exhibition is FREE.
But first, come to the Builders Breakfast at the
CrossRoads and take a break from your camping
buddies. Your pals will be around tomorrow but the
Builders Breakfast only happens today.
Get your tickets online at BuffaloChip.Com/

And they flaunt it!
N
o wonder the Flaunt Girls exude
such all-American wholesomeness
with a saucy zing: the tightly choreographed, sometimes high-flying, and always
cheeky show was born and bred in South
Dakota!
Long before you ever saw them on TV,
the Flaunt Girls performed classic burlesque
during the summer months at the Old Style
Saloon No. 10 in Deadwood. That was in
2007, and things took off from there, especially once the motorcycle world found them.
The show has been performed at events all
across the country, and if you haven’t seen it,
you must! It’s a memorable performance. The
show combines dancing, acrobatics, aerobatics
and more as this troop of stunning ladies owns
the stage, moving and posing to a dozen different tunes, from classic and current rock to
country and pop. These girls train hard, and it
shows! It’s naughty-but-nice, pulse-pounding
entertainment.
See the Flaunt Girls perform every night at
10 p.m. and midnight on the Kinison Stage.
You’ll be mesmerized by what the Girls can do.

VISIT THE NEW SPEAKEASY STEAKHOUSE
Premium wine and cocktails – and a new delicious menu
T
he term Speakeasy harkens back to the
era of Prohibition, a time in America’s
past when drinking alcohol was not only
prohibited, it was straight up illegal. A Speakeasy was a clandestine refuge where people would
gather on the sly to enjoy a cocktail and socialize with like-minded people. They grew in legend
due to the thrill of danger surrounding them;
they might be raided at any moment.
There have never been those kinds of rules
at the Buffalo Chip, in fact quite the opposite
is true of The Best Party Anywhere®. But that
doesn’t mean rallygoers don’t look for the occasional option to full blast, flat-out partying.
Enter the new Buffalo Chip Speakeasy, a
swanky place that offers a respite from the rigors
of pursuing rally mayhem. At the Speakeasy you
can kick back in air-conditioned comfort and
explore menu selections that are offered nowhere
else, all while enjoying an adult beverage in an
atmosphere of relative calm. Tucked neatly into
the amphitheater just behind Miss Chippie, The
Chip’s Speakeasy holds to the secretive traditions
of the bad old days, when alcohol was outlawed.
The Speakeasy’s menu includes delicious
delectables such as rib-eye steaks grilled to order
and served with sweet potato waffle fries. There’s
chicken with pesto on ciabatta, salads and more.
Quite a savory spread to help you fuel up for the
rigors of Sturgis rally week.
If you’re the type who prefers a glass of premium wine with your premium meal, that’s
totally doable at the Speakeasy. Add the fact that
the Speakeasy has tables and chairs for your dining pleasure, plus TV monitors carrying the live
performances from the main stage, and you’ve
got a combination of amenities worth experiencing and sure to delight.
So stop in and have a seat, chill out and check
the menu. You worked hard today taking that
long ride through the beautiful Black Hills,
so treat yourself to anything you like from the
Speakeasy’s full bar. No worries either about
being dragged into the clink for enjoying an
adult drink. Everything served here is one hundred percent legal!

pass. We’re talking about the top performers everyone wants to hear, and if
your vacation in the Black Hills doesn’t
include at least one night in front of
the Wolfman Jack stage, you’re missing out.
Nowhere else on earth is applause
replaced by revving engines; that
energy just can’t be duplicated. The
good news is there are several ways to
not only enjoy the Chip experience
but enhance it, too. Your camping
pass or single-night concert ticket gets
you among the fans, in a rockin’ sea of
like-minded individuals — and that’s a
blast! But you can kick it up, too.
The Chip’s Top Shelf Lounge gives
fans a bird’s eye view in a restricted
setting to enjoy the concert like a
rock star. Located high above, it’s the
prime spot for a spectacular sight and
sound immersion. The cash bar exclusively serves only Top Shelf guests, and
occupancy is limited to maximize the
experience. The Top Shelf is in high
demand and often
sells out. One trip up
to the top and you’ll
see why.
Another option is
the Fan VIP Upgrade,
a secured, exclusive reception space
right beside the stage
with access to special viewing areas for
concerts and potential opportunities to
see or meet the artists. A campground
admission pass is
required for both
Top Shelf access
and the Fan VIP
Upgrade.
Some
artists
make
arrangements for meetand-greet events,
too, and while there’s no guarantee
you’ll connect with them, you’re in the
pool to participate from the VIP section. Admission commences 30 minutes before opening acts take the stage
and guests receive complimentary
light snacks and beverages. Add on a
seat in the Fan VIP Skybox or a spot in
the pit in front of
the stage for a “right there” experience
just feet from the performers.
Further details for all upgrade experiences can be found at www.buffalochip.com. And a word to the wise:
spaces in these exclusive areas fill up
fast so plan ahead!
