April 2016 - Partners Financial Federal Credit Union
April 2016 April is National Credit Union Youth Month Partners Financial FCU is proud to offer MoneyIsland™, an educational and entertaining online world that helps kids, ages 8 to 14, in three key financial areas: Saving & Spending, Earning & Investing and Using Credit Wisely. What is MoneyIsland? The Educational Game MoneyIsland is a multi-level online educational game provided to our members, schools and community organizations. It uses interactive games, videos, and quizzes to teach financial skills. You can play along while providing your children with tools they need to live a financially healthy life. And the best part of it all-- when children complete MoneyIsland, they earn a reward from the credit union! The principles of financial responsibility and decisionmaking are built into the quests of MoneyIsland. Most importantly, so is fun! Lessons are introduced by lively characters who interact with kids along the way. Kids save, spend, invest, and share as they strive to become gurus ready for financial success. The knowledge gained will put children on a path to a healthy retirement before earning their first paycheck! Setting Up Your Online Account You need a 6-digit access code (provided by PFFCU) to set up a MoneyIsland username and password. This process requires completing a simple registration form online or by obtaining a MoneyIsland Passport. Once you have established your adult account, you will immediately have the option to add children under this account. You may do this during initial registration or at any point after. To get started, go to pffcu.moneyisland.com. ders’ l o h e r a h S l a u n An Meeting 6, 6:00pm 2 il r p A , y a d Tues tist Church at Biltmore Bap Ave. 1300 New York 23060 Glen Allen, VA Any member in good stand ing who is interested in volunteering fo r the Board, the Su pervisory or Lo a n Review Committee sh ould submit a resume to: Nominating Committee C hairman c/o PFFCU P.O. How will I know whether to swipe my card or insert it? Your card will always work either by swipe or insertion. The terminal or the cashier will prompt you to insert the card into the terminal if it’s activated for chip technology. If the terminal is not yet chipactivated, you can always swipe your card to complete the purchase. 4. Where can I use my chip card? 1. What is a chip card and why is it more secure than a traditional card? Chip cards are regular plastic credit or debit cards with an embedded microchip. The chip protects in-store payments because it generates a unique, one-time code that is needed for each transaction to be approved. It is virtually impossible for fraudsters to replicate this feature in counterfeit cards providing greater security and peace of mind when used instore. A chip card also has a magnetic stripe on the back of the card and may include technology for contactless payments. You can use your chip card anywhere Visa cards are accepted. You can swipe your card just like you do today using the magnetic stripe on the back of the card, if a chip-activated terminal is not yet available. The terminal or the cashier will prompt you to insert and leave the card in the terminal until the transaction is complete if it’s activated for chip. 5. Can I use my chip card for all the same things as my old card? Yes, you can still make purchases as you always have — by entering the card number online or swiping your card at merchant locations that do not yet have chip readers. 6. If I want to use my chip-card at a retailer that doesn't support chip card technology yet, will it work? 2. How do I use a chip card to make a purchase? Of course, just swipe your card using the magnetic stripe the way you always have. Just like magnetic-stripe cards, chip cards are processed for payment in two steps: card reading and transaction verification. However, with chip cards you no longer have to master a quick, fluid card swipe in the right direction. Chip cards are read in a different way. When a chip card is inserted, data flows between the card chip and the issuing financial institution to verify the card's legitimacy and create the unique transaction data. 7. Do I need to use a PIN with my Visa chip card? In most cases, you’ll sign for credit purchases and either sign or enter your PIN for debit purchases — just like you do today. You may not be required to do either for certain types of transactions involving relatively small purchase amounts.
