Maewyn Succat was born in 387AD in what is
known as Great Britain.
His father was a deacon and his
grandfather was a priest
At the age of
16, Maewyn
was
kidnapped
and brought
to Ireland
where he was
enslaved.
After escaping, he walked 200 miles to
the docks where he was able to gain
safe passage on a ship that brought him
home.
Maewyn was forced to
work 6 years as a Shepherd
until he was inspired in a
dream to escape.
During his
journey, he
thought of
others that
may have go
through the
same trials
that he had
that were
still in
Ireland.
Legends and tall tales are told
of this man’s selfless deeds. He is
best known by his missionary name
Patrick. Although never official
cananized by the church, each year
people around the world
celebrate in parades and feast to
patron saint of Ireland, Patrick.
Maewyn
became a
missionary
and return
to Ireland.
Where he
spent his
life teaching
and
inspiring
goodness
and love.
