Making Chilean Films Global
CHILE
AT
We are proud to be the only country representing Latin America at
the Director’s Fortnight, with two of our most exceptional directors:
Pablo Larraín with Neruda (starring Luis Gnecco, Gael García Bernal
and Mercedes Morán); and Alejandro Jodorowsky with Endless Poetry
(Adan Jodorowsky, Pamela Flores and Brontis Jodorowsky).
We return to Cannes with more excitement and energy than ever, after
a 2015 full of achievements for our audiovisual production. We return
with Silver Bears, a Golden Eye Award, and even an Oscar, only to
mention a few of the recognitions obtained around the world.
It was a year in which our industry demonstrated with talent,
professionalism and diversity what we have been announcing proudly:
In Chile there are surprising things happening and they are not to be
missed.
Chile at Cannes 2016
We return with an important presence in the Marché du Film, a
strategic event for our industry, in which more than a dozen companies
will participate with almost fifty projects in fiction, documentary and
television. Our delegation embarks to solidify a well-rounded business
schedule that seeks to strengthen the national industry through sales
alliances and co-production agreements. We come to strengthen
international ties, through an unprecedented bilateral agenda with
Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Italy and Croatia, in order to establish
alliances that strengthen our co-productions and give rise to new
creations and financing opportunities.
We will be present with a stand, strategically located in the Palais
des Festivals and in the Short Film Corner, where we will exhibit a
complete panorama of national creation in short format.
Additionally, it is in the largest festival and film market in the
world where we will once again present our 2016 International Film
Catalogue, which compiles an outstanding figure of directors, entirely
new to the world scene.
Chilean cinema has exploded and it’s in the height of its expansion.
We invite you to be a part of this journey.

It’s 1948 and Pablo Neruda is pursued
after the communist party is banned.
The President calls for his impeachment,
delegating his arrest to Óscar Peluchonneau.
Neruda becomes a poet who turned into
a weapon. He lives in hiding with his
wife Delia del Carril, writes the ‘Canto
General’, and tries to flee the country while
Peluchonneau is hot on his heels. The poet
uses this persecution to reinvent himself,
he becomes both a symbol for liberty and
a literary legend.
Pablo Larraín
“This is the story of a key figure in Latin American
literature, as well as the political history of
Chile. We recount Neruda through dark comedy,
parody, action, and drama. Neruda shows a
poet who redefines himself and becomes a
legend thanks to his persecutor.”

Set in the 1950s, Poesía Sin Fin is the
autobiographical account of a young Alejandro
Jodorowsky and his emancipation. Breaking
free from his merchant father’s stiffling
authority, he asserts his uncontainable desire
to become a poet, through an absolute
artistic and amorous quest. The film takes
us through the poignant tale of a young man
with a passion for freedom who discovers
and explores without limitation the world of
art and poetry until his definitive departure
from Chile to France. True to Alejandro
Jodorowsky’s principle under which Cinema
is an absolute form of art, Poesía Sin Fin is an
artistic manifest and a free, uncompromising
poetic act unto itself.
“Endless Poetry reveals a young man who wants,
above all, to find beauty in the world, in others,
in himself, who wants to find a reason in his life.
Cinema for us, for the artists, is not an industry;
it’s not a business. We have to make cinema
that heals. Cinema that is optimistic, happy,
creative… wonderful!” Alejandro Jodorowsky
