Student of the month: Ishaan Soin
Ishaan Soin, a recent Orange belt is nominated student of the
month for his hard work and dedication to his training. In just
few short months, Ishaan has improved his technique more than
most people do in a year. The difference is that Ishaan takes his
training seriously and when we tell him to practice he takes that
advise and works hard to improve his technique. As a result, his
kicks, stances and blocks are much better. He rarely misses class
and always comes ready to work hard with a huge smile on his
face. Ishaan, you truly are a great martial artist and we can all
learn from you. Thank you for being such a great role model.
Congratulations. The sky is the limit.

Dear Students, families and friends,
In this month’s newsletter, I want to talk about acceptance. I firmly believe that all the problems in the world today
can be resolved with one word: ACCEPTANCE. Okay, maybe this is a bit naïve but it sure is a good start. It takes each
one of us doing our part to make this dream come close to reality. The famous Bruce Lee gave us a head start on this
when he refused to obey the rules of the Chinese community in America. They did not want any Chinese to teach
martial arts to Westerners because they were considered the enemy and therefore the Chinese secrets should not be
revealed to them. Bruce did not see it that way. He said to them that the Chinese culture had been sheltered from
the rest of the world for so long and it was high time they let the world see the beauty of it. “White people” he said,
“are not the enemy, they just don’t know us.” So, Bruce started teaching Kung-Fu to anybody who wanted to learn
and made a name for himself but also made some enemies among the Chinese. It wasn’t long before the world started talking about this man and taking interest in martial arts and the Eastern culture. As a result of Bruce Lee’s defiance to the Chinese orders, people of all colors, backgrounds, and values started training together and seeing each
other as one. They started accepting each other’s differences because there was one thing that brought them together: their love for the martial arts. And this is one of the reasons I love martial arts so much. Martial arts are color
blind. They don’t care about age, gender, sexual orientation, appearance, religious beliefs or what have you. The only
thing required of the practitioners is to be genuinely good, accepting, respectful and hard working individuals.
So, as martial artists, it is up to us to make this dream a reality, at least within our circle of influence. Regardless of
where we come from, our differences, our beliefs, with a little bit of understanding and acceptance, we can make this
world a better place. A good martial artist is pure hearted and doesn’t wish any evil to any living soul. This is the kind
of person I want each one of my students to become. Anger, hatred and intolerance have taken this world thousands
of years backward. It’s time we started moving in the right direction again. What do we have to lose? Remember the
person who has nothing to lose has everything to give; be it the best or the worst in her. What’s your legacy going to
be? I love each and every one of you and I’m honored to have you in my life even if it is for a moment. Keep training
and open up your heart.
The sky is the limit!
Sincerely,
Mathiam Mbow
