HECTOR BIZERK SUPPORT FROM THE ILL COLLECTIVE
Formed by drummer/producer Audrey Tait and Scottish battle rap champion Louie, Hector Bizerk have an insatiable desire to experiment
with noise, colour, rhythm and rhyme. Their live show is a crescendo of thought-provoking music that includes elements of live visual art,
b-boying and improvisation. Hector Bizerk is a celebration of modern hip hop culture with a Scottish twist, combining frontman Louie’s
razor sharp poetry with incredible tribal rhythms and grooving funk basslines that encapsulates audiences.

EMILIO LARGO & COLD YEARS
Following the split of his old band Purple Divide, Guitarist/Vocalist Dale Sutherland looked to challenge himself with a new project.
After experimenting with his song writing, Dale set his sights on a sound heavier than Purple Divide. With a focus on big dynamic riffs
and drawing influence from bands such as Arcane Roots, Biffy Clyro, Muse, Oceansize and Marmozets, the sound of Alkanes began to
develop.

SWEET WHITE
PLUS SUPPORT
Sweet White are a 5-piece indie band from Peterhead, Scotland.
Things began with only 2 members writing and recording music
together in a bedroom. Their sound has been described as “catchy
as funk, sharp indie-rock numbers guided by pop sensibilities.”
similar to bands like Foals and Peace.
The band currently have a number of dates booked across Scotland
this year and are currently continuing work on a second EP.

PRONTO MAMA ALPHAS & THE HARMONICA MOVEMENT
Pronto Mama are a past post-modern bug-eyed beatnik group from Glasgow who are just as confused as anyone else. They are soulful.
They believe irreverent wordplay, clean musicianship and a dirty dedication to song-writing is how you do it. The music is built around the
songs written by Marc Rooney and Ciaran McEneny, who in coughing copy-cat fashion opted for McEneny/Rooney. Keeping it alphabetical
preserves good feeling and the over-arching idea you have of yourself, maybe.

MIN DIESEL
Min Diesel are a guitar-led three-piece from the North-east
of Scotland, who shamelessly plunder the best bits from their
favourite late-80s/early-90s punk, lo-fi and math-rock bands’ to
create music they’ve taken great amusement from dubbing “mindie rock”. Min Diesel have shared a stage with Errors, Acoustic
Ladyland, Joan of Arc, Hot Club de Paris, Sky Larkin and Paws.

BILLY BRAGG
Orator, entertainer, rabble-rouser, negotiator, pamphleteer, the fabled ‘big-nosed bard from Barking’, Billy Bragg is many things. A regular
contributor to the national debate as TV pundit and newspaper columnist, he continues to sharpen his pen as a writer and songwriter.
Whether it’s unionized workers, constitutional reform, bankers’ bonuses, illegal wars or the undemocratic commandeering of a portable
toilet backstage at a festival, Billy Bragg will help fight your corner.

DEAN OWENS AND
THE WHISKY HEARTS
Filtering his love of Americana through a gritty yet lyrical Scottish
sensibility, Dean Owens is one of Scotland’s most acclaimed and
established singer songwriters. Celtic Americana with a rootsy
pop groove and undercurrents of wistful melancholy, his songs
draw as much from his Scottish roots as from his US heroes. The
emotional honesty shines through as he sings about people and
places, love and regrets.

BIG COUNTRY

explosive reinvention of global brass band music has captured
imaginations, set pulses racing and left a trail of pummelled
dance floors across continents. Ska, porro, Balkan brass,
klezmer and funk combine to create a living, breathing, polkaing, pogo-ing honkstep for the 21st century, their legendary live
shows bursting with anarchic humour, wildly skillful musical
arrangements and a roguish sense of theatre.

Cockney Rejects were formed in the late seventies in East
London as an answer to the art school punk that had dominated
the scene up until then. Fiercely working class in stance and
attitude, the band shunned the political ramblings of punk’s first
wave and sang about the circumstances that surrounded them.
Spotted by Sham 69’s Jimmy Pursey and signed by EMI after
playing four local gigs they found themselves playing sell out
tours the length and breadth of the UK.

situationist crypto-Marxist-Leninist electro band. We never
went on X Factor or Pop Idol or Stooge Quest. We did it the old
fashioned way; Back in 1996, we threw a big old party, invited all
our friends. Geffen records bought it..! for a million dollars! We
never needed a self-appointed quango of jaded vampires to tell
us how to sing the blues...we got MOJO. We have the power to

HAYSEED DIXIE
THE SHEE
Hayseed Dixie began in the summer of 2000 in the fertile
valley of Deer Lick Holler, deep in the heart of the Appalachian
Mountains of East Tennessee USA. In this area which was
completely isolated from outside cultural and musical
influence, the boys grew up playing the traditional music of
their forefathers on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and
acoustic bass.
If variety is the spice of life, then The Shee’s live show has a
flavour to suit every palate. Full of zest, zing and zip, unlike
many of their folky contemporaries this all-female Scots-English
sextet have a lot more going for them than just high-level
musicianship and the ability to play fast. Subtlety, stagecraft
and an inner confidence are also strengths. Whether it’s Scots,
Gaelic, Bluegrass or Scandinavian music – once a tune has gone
through the “Sheemachine”, it’s theirs.

THE HIGH KINGS
For centuries, Ireland was ruled by High Kings. As their reign
came to an end, their deeds and stories merged into the world
of legend and myth and the High Kings of Ireland were no more
except in story, music and song. The High Kings are continuing to
live up to their reputation as a phenomenal live band, serving up
laughter, good times and even the odd sing along.

TREACHEROUS ORCHESTRA
Treacherous Orchestra are a powerful force in Scottish music; a huge eleven strong, folk big band that delivers epic, incendiary live
performances night after night. On stage the players are hugely entertaining, mixing their original tunes up with theatrical anarchic rock
attitude. Here is a band that is playing at the next level, technical, impressive and yet impossibly raw, whose shows are always vital and
make the audience feel truly alive and in the moment.

with J.S. Bach’s setting of the St Matthew Passion. In a unique presentation of this previously un-staged masterpiece, the tragic story of the
little match girl is brought to life by vocal ensemble and percussion. Reverent and gracious, J.S. Bach’s commemorative masterpiece Jesu

A woman’s chronic somniphobia (fear of sleep) leads her to develop an elaborate system of rituals in order to survive the hours of
night – measuring time, light, distances, stars – until day breaks and the world around her wakes up. Inspired by the work of Aberdeen’s
Royal Astronomer Sir David Gill, alchemy, fantasy and bats, The Wakeful Chamber explores what happens to our sensory perception
when familiar routines are under threat.

Sarah Rose Graber:
Serendipity
If you thought good fortune in your life is all down to chance, then
we invite you think again. Performer, director, and teaching artist
Sarah Rose Graber will be spending time at The Lemon Tree in
October, developing a new piece of work exploring the question - is
good fortune just luck, or is it a state of mind? Sarah Rose’s many
studies include researching theatre for social change and she’ll
be working with Mel Woods, Reader at the University of Dundee
and founding member of Girl Geek Scotland who has recently
completed a major research award, RCUK SerenA, investigating
serendipity, through design prototypes to support information
discovery, creativity and innovation.

Christmas
Show!
By Simon Puttock, adapted by Dougie Irvine
Way up in the deep blue night sky, a twinkling star hears a little girl’s birthday wish . . . she wishes she
could dance with the stars.
Wanting to make this wish come true, the star tells the moon, the moon tells the sun, the sun tells the
wind and the rain, and together they dream up a wonderful plan.
Told through a magical mix of music, light and imagination, A Ladder to the Stars is a heartfelt and
humorous story of what can happen when the universe hears your dreams. Join us at The Lemon Tree
this Christmas for the perfect festive treat for a young audience aged 3-7, their parents and carers.

Youth Arts Collective North East is made up of youth, arts and community organisations from across
Aberdeen city and shire. We are creating opportunities for young people aged 0-25 to shape and
participate in the arts and to find, explore and develop their creative potential.
We’ll be offering opportunities for young people to explore the arts as a career path, to get involved as
young directors, actors, dancers and artists. We’ll be trying to find the next generation of the world’s
theatre technicians, filmmakers and young journalists interested in dance, theatre, music and art.
But to start with, we want to ask you what you’d like to see us working on. Young people are at the heart
of what we do, and so it makes sense for us to ask what you need first.
To join the dialogue, you can tweet us at
Or you can email

Allan can talk to you about options, opportunities, and
even sign you up to our mailing list.

HOW MUCH?
We’ve printed the whole price of ticket in the brochure, this includes the booking fee (the only extra you’ll
have to pay for is postage, but why not print your own at home?) – there could well be discounts for students,
children, over 60s or APA Friends – just ask or check online.
DO I SIT OR STAND?
A bit of both – we try and create the right atmosphere for each gig, some will have seats, some won’t – we’ve
tried to list it where we can here.
If it says ‘doors’ then that’s when the doors open and you get inside for a drink. If it says ‘start’ that’s when the
show starts. Some shows have support acts, we can’t always confirm this until nearer the time and ‘start’ can
mean the start of the support act, not the main act
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?
All ages are welcome, but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, and under 18s can’t be near the bars.
