What’s On + Where To Go
An independent, locally owned calendar
of community events published monthly
from February to December.
No excuses - Take the time
Technology is extremely helpful, but it has also sped our lives up
considerably. We can get a lot more done in less time, which ironically
hasn’t created more time but rather built our expectations up into
wanting to do more with our time. We have become so busy it’s hard
to imagine taking any time to relax and do something we enjoy. This
is where What’s On + Where To Go magazine comes in handy... Take the
time to find an event you would enjoy, whether it’s a hobby, dancing, or
even just socialising more – you can find it in What’s On. Even if it’s only
one event, spend some time doing something you love.

Sick of being sick? Antibiotics not working? Nature has everything
you need to support and adjust your body back to health. Being sick
is a powerful messenger alerting you look at something that’s not
working in your life and make changes. Choosing herbs and natural
supplements over prescription medication means you are taking
control of your life and willing to wake up and be responsible for your
health and your creation.
ANTIBIOBOTANICAL - is a broad spectrum powerful HERBAL antibiotic
which can be used alone for chronic and recurring infections or
alongside a pharmaceutical antibiotic to ensure full removal of
bacteria. None of the side effects of antibiotics, no destruction of the
gut, recommended for children - preferable to antibiotics.
Owners & Therapists Laura & Jet
ASTRAGALUS COMPLEX - An awesome formula by Mediherb, it contains Astragalus, Siberian Ginseng & Echinacea
purpurea. A powerful boost for a weakened immune system. Can be used as a preventative or for chronic
longstanding infections & all cold & conditions.
PI PA GAO - Chinese herbal Cough syrup - for those of you who know, it’s THE BEST cough medicine ever! Adults
and children can use it - it tastes delicious, soothes the throat and stops coughing.
For Chronic coughing we have CHINESE MEDICINE VIALS, employed when coughing is chronic and unstoppable
- can also be used for whooping cough.
So many remedies, so many herbs, teas, lotions and potions. Looking forward to seeing you.

The CIA makes
an appearance
Fear not. “CIA” in this instance, is the brainchild of a dedicated group of Herberton enthusiasts, bringing their vision
of an inter - active community.
Their mission statement - Herberton Community Inter Action (CIA) – arts and culture group is an umbrella organisation
to support not-for-profit community events and activities promoting arts, culture and fun in the herberton district.
Their first and very successful HCIA community event Film House, was held last month in the Herberton Community
Hall, two locally made short films followed by the art house movie A Japanese Story. This film event will be held on a
regular 2 monthly base, with the next screening on Sunday, August 24 at 4pm. Locally made short films have a chance
to be viewed as “cover” film, before the main movie. Call Jannie Smit 4096 3119 for details.
Other community events include a series of art and craft workshops. Local artists present their crafts; giving the
public a chance to get involved in the Come and Try day. Crafts like pottery, felting, silk painting, lead lighting and
quilting will be promoted. The first workshop will be Pottery with Mecki Kracke 4096 2605. More artists in our
district are welcome to join the group. Please call Viola Barnes 4096 3216 for details.
Brenda Agius is organising school holiday art and craft activities for children. If you are interested in joining Brenda
in these fun activities, please phone her on 4096 3110.
The Herberton New Year’s Eve Street Party fundraising for this year includes a bush dance with the Bush remedies (16
August); a “Spicks and Wizz” Quiz night (6 September) and an Art Auction later in the year.
They welcome anyone with a desire to conduct or help in a not for profit activity. The advantage of the HCIA is the
coverage of insurance and the help of promoting the activity. Not to mention the warm fuzzy feeling being involved
within a community group. Membership for the HCIA is $20 a year.
Advertising and promotional flyers are starting to appear throughout the Herberton district. If you like to be on the
mailing list, become a member or want more information, please contact our publicity officer, Dianne Gates 4096 2821.

Exhibition at FNQ Computers
Tablelands artists, Steve and Marijke Hancock continue their exploration of style and
technique, in this, their 15th exhibition (in FNQ).
In his current body of work, which he terms kinetic expressionism, Steve is striving to
create the illusion of motion, while at the same time, exploring subtler levels of sensory
stimulation. Marijke’s paintings entice us into her magical world, where the forms of
nature assume a surreal splendour. Marijke’s meticulously-executed gems are keenly
sought-after for intimate spaces. The expansive abstracts of Steve, on the other hand,
are more desired for offices and larger spaces. Opening 6.00pm Friday, July 18.

Who will the winner be?
A big thank you to all our readers who entered! The response to the What’s On + Where To Go photography
competition has been overwhelming. The entries are a great reflection of how beautiful our wildlife and region
is - not to mention how many talented photographers there are!
Picking the winning photograph for a 2014 cover image is proving tough, and the revealing issue with
the winner on the cover will remain a surprise, so keep an eye out at the beginning of each month!
Also, to keep up to date on the judging process and a sneak peek at the finalists, keep an eye on
the What’s On + Where To Go Facebook page.
BAT-TASTIC OPEN DAY
Sunday July 27, 3 - 5pm
The Bat Hospital is having an Open Day to share their good fortune with the local community.
They have opened a new building, achieved Number One position on Trip Advisor for attractions
in the Atherton area, and have also been receiving a lot of media interest in their work.
So far this year the Bat Hospital has been on French, German and Australian television and is
in the current issue of Australian Geographic. Bob Irwin also visited and filmed a ‘Bob-i-sode’,
as did Bondi Vet last year. The Hospital will feature in November on SBS Global Village and a
wildlife magazine in USA.
The Open Day is being organised in association with Tablelands Wildlife Rescue, TREAT and a
number of other community groups with which they work.
There will be 3 presentations every half hour by Bat Hospital volunteers, at 3 different stands
around the Hospital – the Visitor Centre, Microbats and Flying Foxes. See the amazing new bat
detector that lets you see and hear echolocation calls.
Entry is by gold coin donation and afternoon tea will be available. The Bat Hospital is at 134
Carrington Rd Atherton. Look for the sign 6 kms from Atherton on the Herberton Rd. Enquiries

YOUR LIFE NUMBERS
Personal Year 1
We are trying a new section, Your Life Numbers, a numerology technique
used to gain an insight into your life and events. To calculate your personal
year number add together your birthdate and month to a single number
(example 13 July would be 1 + 3 + 7 = 11 then 1 + 1 = 2) then add 7 for
2014 (2 + 1 + 4 = 7), which will give you a number from 1 to 9 (in the
example date it would be 2 + 7 = 9) read below to match your number.
Planting Seeds, Rebirth,
Beginning of new nine
year cycle. Past worries
no longer matter as your
priorities have changed.
A 1 year lays the base for
the nine years, it’s time to
decide what your goals are
and act on them.
Personal Year 2
Personal Year 3
Personal Year 4
Personal Year 5
Nurturing,
Patience &
Timing. It’s time when
the seeds of change
you planted last cycle
start to grow. It’s about
patience, challenges and
making necessary personal
changes that may be
acting as obstacles to your
success.
Expansion, Personal and
Business Success. An easy
year as you see your efforts
begin to pay off. Expect
surprises and gratification
in many areas of your life
including business, career,
friends and love.
Work, Self Control and
Responsibility. A year of hard
work & discipline, sometimes
struggling to keep up with
the demands on you, as a
4 year is about creating a
strong foundation that can
support the maturing of
your life goals.
This year is Independence
&
Freedom. A 5 year
presents
opportunities
in many guises as your
diligence is rewarded with
more personal freedom,
often travel, adventure
& education feature. A
year you may not feel like
working much.
Personal Year 6
Personal Year 7
Personal Year 8
Personal Year 9
Love, Family and Home. A
year 6 intensifies feelings
regarding
relationships,
many finding partners or
getting married or engaged
during this harmonious year.
Lifelong friends are often
made in a 6 year.
Reflection, Learning and Self
Analysis. Even extroverts will
be drawn to spending more
time alone. It’s a cocoon
year for clearing out any
self sabotage preventing
growth. You may feel like
pursuing your interests, and
travelling.
Health,
Wealth
and
Abundance.
A
potent
year overall but especially
favouring career & money
matters. A great year to buy
a new home, find a new job
or put a business plan into
action. A prosperous cycle.
Death,
Taking
Personal
Inventory, The End of an Era.
A 9 year is one of completion
& the ending of everything
no longer supporting your
inner growth. Let go of the
past willingly, as this is the
year you reap what you
sow.
