The psalmist prayed, “Create in me a new heart, O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires. Don’t toss me aside, banished forever from your presence. Don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me again the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to sinners and they, guilty like me, will repent and return to you.” (Psalm 51:1012) Jesus said in Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plenteous, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord therefore to send out workers into the harvest fields.” He then sent out workers into the field and in Luke 10:17 it is recorded that “the seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord even demons submit to your name.” We are entering the time of year when our churches traditionally schedule meetings and seek revival. I want to tell you what I told our delegates at District Assembly. The restoration of joy, the life of joy, the way of joy is in the harvest. Harvest work brings joy. It could be said this way, real revival comes when his church is bringing in the harvest. God can use scheduled meetings, he can certainly use Evangelists, but if real revival comes it will result in the church going out to the ripe fields and bringing in the harvest. Our district has accepted the challenge the Lord gave us to bring in the harvest. We are seeking the restoration of joy in all our churches by committing ourselves to a great harvest effort. We want every church to become a harvesting church. We are asking that you become a part of the church multiplication plan that God has led us to accept. We have accepted the goal to revitalize every church and to start 72 new churches in the next ten years. This is how we want you to get involved in this the first year of our ten year goal. JOIN THE EAST TENNESSEE DISTRICT 10:02 PRAYER TEAM: Thousands across our district stop every day at 10:02 AM and pray Luke 10:2. We also ask that you fast and pray seven hours on the seventh day of each month. You do those two things and you are not only obeying Jesus’ command to pray for workers but you will be a part of the most important team on this district. JOIN US FOR A THREE DAY TRAINING EVENT (Feb 28 - March 2, 2017) Dynamic Church Planting International is once again coming to our district. It is to be held at our district campground. Last year it was a great source of inspiration for all who attended. Three different training tracks will be offered. New Church Dynamics - The purpose of this training track is to implement systems for growing a dynamic missional church. It will address how to assess your current status, how to envision what needs to change, and how to generate a plan. Every church in East Tennessee needs to have the pastor or a key leader in this training. Churches Planting Churches - The purpose of this training is to help answer fears and objections to church planting. It will help you understand the involvement of a mother church and how to raise the needed funds for a daughter church. This training is ideal for a pastor who has a burden to reach out by sponsoring a new church. Church Planting Essentials - This is basic training for the person or couple who feel led by God to start a new church. It will give you the tools you need to fulfill the call that God has placed on your life. All licensed minister who will seek ordination in the future will be required to take this training. Laymen are also welcome to take the course. God often chooses laymen to lead a new start. This is also great training for anyone who is going to be a part of a new start team. May the “JOY OF HIS SALVATION” abide in your heart as YOU join with us in a great harvest effort in the ripe fields of East Tennessee. Remember: Even demons submit to His Name. Dr. Ronald K. McCormack The New Testament honors vocational ministry as one of God’s highest callings. First Thessalonians 5:13-14 asks church members “to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.” Ephesians 4:11-12 says God gave the Church pastors and other ministry leaders “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Pastors are God’s gifts to His people and are worthy of recognition for their willing and faithful service. Pastor Appreciation Month is an opportunity for local congregations to give thanks to God for their pastors. It is a time to demonstrate to their pastor’s genuine appreciation for their service. It is a time to esteem the role of the vocational Christian ministers who provide churches with spiritual direction. It is a time to stress the need for others to answer God’s call to full-time ministry. When the Apostle Paul remembered with joy the people in the church at Philippi, he spoke of their “partnership in the gospel (Philippians 1:5).” Ministry is a partnership of ministers and lay people—each helping the other to be effective in witness and work for Christ. The church cannot function effectively unless both do their part to build up each other. When churches honor their pastor, they strengthen the team God has put together to serve Him in their com-munity. By showing appreciation they return some of the love, concern and ministry their pastor has given to them. (taken from “ Pastor Appreciation Sunday, A local Church planning Guide” October is typically designated as Clergy/Pastor Appreciation Month. Every Church Board Secretary should receive communications from both General Church as well as District Leaders. There are resources and suggestions for planning and implementing special services and ways to show your love at both www.nazarenepastor.org and www.parsonage.org Check with your Church Board Secretary to see how you can help make this a special month for you Ministry Leaders. The air begins to get a bit chillier and your favorite sports teams are playing! We love the season of fall in our home. In farming, harvesting crops becomes a vital part of everyday life. As the summer ends, we see the harvest of vegetables for the fall. The reason they are harvested at that time is because the frost of winter will kill them otherwise. "Crop Failure" is a term used when crops simply don't grow, often due to lack of water. I remember when Keri and I tried our hands at gardening. It proved to be hard work. The first year was difficult but the next is even worse. You might not see much growth in the first few years but, if you are diligent, eventually the harvest comes. I think about the work we do as East Tennessee Nazarenes. I know how to get a bunch of people to church. I know the tricks to packing a place out. Concerts and events might do it but discipling people is different. It takes work. It is time consuming and costs us something. Growing disciples takes diligence and dedication. That's what we saw in our District Superintendents report; SDMI grew. Not just numbers but people. Every life matters to the Kingdom. Many of you feel like giving up, this is too hard and too much work. But I urge you to be patient and find strength in the Lord. There isn't a drought in our land because God has you. And He is pouring His Spirit out on you; growing good crops. You cannot give what you do not have so cultivate your passion for people and He will send a harvest! Your friend on the journey, Matt Hastings SDMI Chair Registration, fellowship and refreshments will take place from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM. The cost is $35 per person or $30 per person for groups of 10 or more. For questions or registration for this event, call the Office of External Relations at 615-248-1355. They have worked tirelessly throughout the years & their servant hearts reflect Christ well. Make sure you thank them for their service! As of our 2016 Assembly, Scott Collins & I have assumed the leadership of the Ministerial Studies process. As with anything new, there are changes! Below you'll find the Ministerial Course of Study info for the Fall Session. It's vital that students contact the instructors ASAP for info on meeting schedule & any pertinent course work to be completed before the first class session. (Via email or phone for some) The courses will begin meeting on September 10th and will be completed by November 19th. Please be mindful of the following change!!!! There are various schedules depending on the location you choose. Each student is responsible for contacting their desired instructors to find out where & when the classes will meet. Many might have varying schedules! Our desire is to offer the courses with increased flexibility regarding meeting times & locations. We've offered church locations for various Mission Areas on our district but some of the instructors might choose to meet more or less frequently based on the number of enrollees. Contact them today! There are current students in the program that are working with area mentors approved by the studies board. If you do not need the courses offered, please contact me for a mentor close to you. They may be able to offer you a course not listed here. Course fees are $50 each. Please make checks payable to: "East Tennessee District Church of the Nazarene" and give to your instructor at the first session. If you are a pastor or paid associate on the district, there are scholarships available. Please contact me with any scholarship requests as well as any other questions you might have regarding the program. Please pass this email along to any prospective ministry student that might be interested. Thanks!
