All of us on staff wish you and yours a most wonderful holiday season! Please note: the office will be closed Christmas Day, December 25. MAKING MEMORIES It’s great to get together with friends and loved ones over the holidays. Why not enjoy times like this more often? Just invite your favorite people to visit us, and we’ll be happy to show them around. Once they sign a lease and move in, you can make many wonderful memories with your new neighbors! = CARTON CRUNCH = Large, empty containers can turn our dumpster into a “plumpster,” especially during the holiday season. Please break down boxes, cartons, and other large items before placing them in the dumpster. By taking those few extra moments, there will be plenty of room for household trash. Thanks for “pitching in.” HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS There’s no place like home for the holidays … and the rest of the year, too! If your lease is about to expire, make sure you’re home for the holidays by renewing early. Just check with the office. Our staff will handle the details and take care of you in no time. Renew your lease today! ’TIS THE SEASON Don’t let the Grinch or other burglars, pick-pockets, and purse snatchers steal this holiday season: • lock all doors and windows when you leave home, even if it’s for only a few minutes • never leave valuables in your vehicle • have your keys in hand when returning to your car or home • don’t overburden yourself with packages. Winter Holiday Showcase I t’s the most wonderful time of the year! With fall festivals and Thanksgiving feasts fresh in our memories, Arizonans are snuggling up to the next exciting season of winter holidays. Here’s a sneak peak at some December holiday favorites. This year, forget the stress of holiday shopping and make it a fun event by browsing (and munching) your way through one of the mega arts and crafts festivals and street fairs in Tucson, Oro Valley, Tempe, Phoenix, and Peoria. In the chill of the evening, bring a chair, blanket, and plenty of hot chocolate and stake out a street corner for one of the electric light parades in Casa Grande, Flagstaff, Payson, Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma. Grab a sandy beach-front spot and enjoy lighted boat regattas at Lake Havasu and Tempe Town Lake. From small towns to big cities, holiday tree lightings and luminary celebrations will ignite the sky. Special extravaganzas like Glendale Glitters make for an enchanted evening of food, fun, and entertainment. Round up your friends and family and enjoy zillions of twinkling lights, jingling bells, and great holiday music at zoo lights in Phoenix, Tucson, and Prescott. Or get a taste of the holidays with a visit to the Gingerbread Village on display in Prescott. With this seemingly endless lineup of great events, don’t forget to take in a holiday play like A Christmas Carol, a classic performance of The Nutcracker, or even a delightful holiday concert. Check online for more details about these special events, and catch the holiday spirit! Refrigerate mini chocolates and licorice. When cool, tie 18 licorice strings into bows and place back in refrigerator. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt together marshmallows and butter, stirring occasionally. When melted, add vanilla extract and green food coloring and mix thoroughly. Gently stir in corn flakes until completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Keep pan on low heat. Working quickly, drop mixture by large spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets and shape into wreaths (mixture will be hot). Decorate with bows and mini chocolates. Cool on cookie sheet in refrigerator. When set, remove with spatula and serve. Arizona Rings in 2014 G et ready for some New Year’s fun as Arizona celebrates the end of a great year and the start of an even better one. On December 28, the Fiesta Bowl kicks off the celebration with the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade in central Phoenix, followed by a gridiron clash between the Big 10 and Big 12 conferences at the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl game later that day at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. On New Year’s Eve, Tucson brings on the bands with its New Year’s Eve Gala 2013 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa. Tempe hosts its annual blockbuster Mill Avenue Block Party. Flagstaff unleashes its traditional New Year’s Eve Pinecone Drop at the Weatherford Hotel, while Prescott has its 2013 Boot Drop at the Palace Restaurant & Saloon. Cap off New Year’s Day with another jolt of elite collegiate football when the University of Phoenix Stadium rolls out the grass for this season’s exciting Fiesta Bowl. Check out all of the great New Year’s events going on throughout the state, and ring in 2014 in style. z De-Stressing December Take the stress out of the busiest time of the year with this simple strategy: do less and enjoy more. Here’s how: Trim the to-do list. Be realistic about how much you can do and trim your list to the essentials. Shorten the gift list. Take a budget-friendly approach and limit gifts to children only, draw names, or opt for a gift exchange. Send an email blast instead of cards. Online greeting cards are easy and inexpensive. You can always mail cards after the holidays. y Wrap as you go. Add ribbons, bows, and tags later so you can stack and store wrapped gifts now. Use sticky notes to identify the contents and recipient. Curb the cleaning. Focus only on those areas that will be used. Entertain with ease. Purchase baked goods and finger foods or host a pot luck. Paper plates and plasticware make cleanup a snap. Cut back on the chaos this holiday and keep your calm. You’ll stress less and savor the season. Unscramble each set of letters to make nine holiday words. Then fill in the colored blanks with matching colored letters and unscramble to form a holiday joke.
