close to having enough people to play hand chimes and start
our Hand Chime Choir under the direction of Peggy Ray.
Chime practice begins in January and will meet on Thursdays
at 3:00 pm in the Clyde Freeman Room/Board Room. Please
sign up with Peggy to join the Hand Chimer's.
Clairmont Chorus Can you carry a tune? Can you read
music? Do you sing in the shower only ? Peggy Ray is the choir
director for the soon to be choir that was temporarily put on
hold at Clairmont Place. All wanna-be choir singers should talk
with Peggy. No audition required.
Glenn Miller Concert The Glenn Miller concert, held at
Spivey Hall at Clayton State College, is January 20. The bus
departs at 1:45 pm. Ticket price: $32.00, plus $3.00 for bus=
$35.00 total cost. Deadline to order tickets: Dec. 5. This is a
sell out concert so we must order tickets quickly. Remember
beloved tunes such as “Moonlight Serenade”, “American
Patrol”, “Chattanooga Choo, Choo”, and plenty more by Glenn
Miller and other gems from the days of swing. !5 or more
needed for group ticket purchase.
Beltline tour We hope to schedule another trip to ride the bus
on the Beltline Tour in January. December 17 is the earliest we
can begin making reservations for a January Tour. We can take
the first 15 who sign up.
Free Blood Pressure/Diabetes tests provided by Personal
Care are in the Montclair in their Dining Room on the 3rd
Tuesday monthly from 10:00 –11:00 am. Take the elevator up
to the 2nd floor to go to the Montclair Assisted Living and ask
where the Dining Room is if you do not know. Staff will assist
you.
All piano’s have been tuned In October the piano in the Main
Dining Room plus the piano’s on the 2nd, 4th, and 7th floor
condo common areas were also tuned. This should be music to
our ears!
Dinner Reservations at Clairmont Place If you have a
dinner reservations at Clairmont Place and you have to cancel,
please give a courtesy call to the table host or the dining room
with as much early notice as possible. This is a resident request.
Coffee Chat All residents are invited to Wednesday morning
Coffee Chat to enjoy social time with other residents, to enjoy
the delicious hot coffee and sausage biscuits, fresh fruit and
updates on what’s happening at Clairmont Place. At times we
have guest speakers and also the marketing and sales staff for
the Atlanta Symphony, DeKalb Symphony conductor, and the
theatres we buy season tickets to. Don’t miss out on
Wednesday morning Coffee Chat. Please remember that Coffee
Chat is not a take out meal, but a social opportunity.
Sign up to ride the bus Please remember to sign up to ride the
bus to the grocery store or other stops, such as North DeKalb
Mall, each week. This helps our driver know whether the bus or
car will be needed. If two people are signed up then we only
need the car, but if the driver arrives in the car to pick up the
two people who signed up and six people are waiting to go to
the grocery then the driver must go back and get the bus.
Your help by abiding by the sign up request is most
appreciated.
New Yoshino Cherry Trees Two anonymous landscape
donors have donated four new Yoshino Cherry trees to the
property. The Yoshino cherry trees are located near the two
Canna beds in the parking area behind the 1800 entrance
where two former trees had died. The cherry trees were
purchased for this location by residents who hired Pikes
Gardens to plant them. Others interested in making a
landscape donation should contact the landscape committee
and Paul McGough.
Banking opportunities There is a Suntrust in the Publix at
Emory Commons and in the parking lot at Toco Hills
Shopping Center. Regents Bank is next door to Alexander’s
Jewelry Store at Toco Hills. If you bank at another bank near
Toco Hills Shopping Center you may ride the bus on
Wednesday at 10:15 to Toco Hills and our driver will take
you to your bank on his way to Kroger and Publix stores. On
Monday, if you shop at the Emory Commons Publix there is a
Suntrust Bank in Publix.
Desserts for our local Fire Department Would you like to
contribute a homemade or even a store made dessert to our
local Fire Department who respond to our many emergency
calls at Clairmont Place? We plan to wait until after the
holidays when things slow down and surprise Station #1 who
responds to our 911 calls 99% of the time. Sign up at the
Front Desk for a January 31 delivery of your dessert
donation. Remember that these rescuer's must pay for all of
their meals while on duty out of their own pockets and they
love getting homemade meals and desserts. It’s a nice thank
you to them.
Water Aerobics Many of our residents have asked about
taking water aerobics classes. L.A. Fitness is offering a deal
to Clairmont Place residents who sign up. If we have between
14-20 participants LA Fitness will add an extra class to their
schedule just for us! Currently they have classes at 9:00 am
and 6:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. They will waive the
enrollment fee, (normally $149.00) for us and you will pay
$29.99 per month for the Aqua classes. We will need to work
out the transportation once we have 14-20 people sign up. If
your doctor thinks water aerobics would be a good form of
exercise for you then you may want to sign up.
Scrabble Beginning January 2, at 6:15pm and Jan. 15 at
1:30 pm we are adding another game opportunity to our
schedule. We all hear about doing things to keep our minds
sharp and exercise our minds and bodies, right? Playing
Scrabble, where you take letters and form words that fit on
the game board with other players letters makes you think
and practice your spelling! Get a table of four together and
challenge your mind and your partners. We have 3 games so
we can have 3 tables of four players at one time. We are
offering two dates and times and we’ll see which works best
for our residents. The first Wed., Jan 2nd, at 6:15 and the 3rd
Tuesday, Jan. 15th, at 1:30 in the bar or card room.
Robert Wade, Jeweler On Dec. 3 Robert Wade will be at
Clairmont Place to offer his usual jewelry repairs, but he will
also bring additional jewelry selections for residents to
purchase. There will be a greater selection than his usual
selection so come prepared to shop when you bring your
jewelry to be repaired.
Photography Club The newly formed Photography Club
met in November and the members are asking other
photography enthusiasts to join them. If you know of
someone who is a photographer and could donate their time
to meet once a month for one hour to give advice or teach
technique to the members please contact Lynn Mayer.
Exercise Those who regularly participate in an exercise
program reap the benefits. Give yourself a gift by joining the
morning exercise class or walking daily for 20-30 minutes.
Members of the morning exercise class at Clairmont Place
are noticing an increase in their strength. Maintaining your
independence by staying strong to do the daily living things
everyone hopes to do is a great feeling. One resident visited
the doctor who told the resident that the exercise has made
this person much younger than others of the same age! What
a grand thing to have your cardiologist tell you.

last book purchases for 2012. The two new books are

The Clairmont Place Memorial Fund
Shortly after the first residents moved into Clairmont Place,
the Memorial fund was started by Mary Haley. The purpose
was to enable residents to make a contribution in memory of
someone who had passed away. The money was sent to the
fund by the treasurer of that particular floor, and was to be
used for enhancement of life for condominium residents
throughout the building.
The committee consists of a representative from each floor.
There are Co-Administrators, one of whom is Treasurer. The
other is Secretary, and sends out cards of acknowledgement
to a family member and to the Floor Treasurer. Alice
Swygert was Chairman for many years. After she was unable
to fill this position, it was decided that one of the
Administrators would act as Chairman. The committee does
not meet on a monthly basis, only when requests are made for
a donation.
Following is a list of projects funded by the committee since
2004:
Custom made table for the Library
Refurbishing Montclair – pictures, lamps, etc.

expenditure of $20,593.70 by the fund. Some contributions

enhance the life in Montclair and the Condos.
To those whose contributions make these expenditures
possible, the Committee would like to express sincere
