Term 4, Week 10
12th December, 2012
Dear Parents,
I have felt lately that as each year passes, things get busier and busier. The speed at which things happen is faster. Is it
because of technology or age? I read this article and related well to what it was saying. How about you? Are you going to
enjoy the “Babe in Bethlehem”? Give yourself a present of time to remember what Christmas is really about.
Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of the Christ Child, but in the midst of the
pre-Christmas frenzy, it's easy to lose sight of the profound spiritual importance of the Advent
season. Your greatest temptation during Advent will be scrimping on your spiritual needs because
there are so many other things going on!
There are presents to make or buy, food to cook, cards to mail, parties to plan, gifts to wrap
and trees to decorate.
There's nothing wrong with pre-Christmas preparations. But it's important to balance the sacred part of the Advent
season with all of the other things you are doing. If you don't make time for quiet reflection, prayer and conversion
of heart, you will find yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausted by Christmas Day. Your Christmas
celebration will look perfect on the surface, but will feel spiritually unsatisfying. You will have a hard time
experiencing the joy and peace that the Babe in Bethlehem brings.
Year 5 students have been involved in a long process to help them make a decision as to whether they wanted to put themselves
forward as a person with leadership responsibilities for 2013. 63% of the students decided to write an application and give a
speech to be considered for school captain, vice captain, prefect, sports captain, library monitor or RE committee. The school
has never had such a large number of applicants. I was very proud of how well all the students presented themselves.
Congratulations to the following students:

Optimum learning group placement
The final placement decision will be made by the Principal (or delegate). If you have any issues you feel are significant and
need the school’s attention before making a final decision as to which class your child is placed, please inform the principal in
writing before this Friday 14th December. Please understand that not all requests will be able to be met. Please note that
being in a class with a child’s best friend does not always result in an
optimum learning placement.
I had a phone call from the police last week about traffic issues around Saddington St. The Officer said that many parents
are using Garner St as a U-Turn point. This is illegal and could cost $298 plus demerit points. The Officer suggested that
taking a little more time, cars can use the round-a-bout on Saddington St and Pages Rd to turn around. The officer said
that there would be a heightened patrol of the area.
Thank you to all those people who had the opportunity to “Sign Our Petition”. This petition is designed to tell the
Government that we disagree with the cutting of $1.7 billion from the education budget. 154 iPad entries were entered by
parents at the school yesterday and 28 signatures. If you were not able to come to school yesterday please go online and
enter your name and details.
Congratulations to our Star Award students from yesterday. Also congratulations to our Gold Award winners from today.
Today also announced the inaugural “St Mary of the Cross Award”. 7 students were chosen from
K-6 for being like Mary MacKillop in the way they see a need and do something about it. Special congratulations to Claudine
Rule from Year 6 on winning the community award. This award was donated by Mr. David Bradbury MP and given to Claudine
for her extra community work she has done especially for the Parish.
Your child’s school report has been sent home today.
