Phone: 8462169 email: [email protected] Mobile: 0274688003 Wednesday 1 April 2015: Newsletter Edition 5 Principals News The end of the first term is upon us. It has been a very action packed term with EOTC, Waterwise, numerous sports and cultural events, School Talent Quest plus a number of other opportunities all packed into a nine week term!! Term 2 looks like being just as eventful with Waterwise continuing, the Science Road Show visiting our school, students visiting Japan, our Kapa Haka, Dance Groups, Music Groups and Cultural groups forming plus Central Zone Sports. It is important that students have a restful holiday and take time out with their families. I know the teachers definitely will. One of the strategies in place is to upgrade our current school furniture into Modern Learning Environment (MLE) furniture. Over the past 4 weeks a number of classes have been trialling different pieces of furniture to see which is the most effective for Intermediate aged students. A group of Pasadena teachers have also visited other Intermediate Schools that have MLE furniture where they have been speaking to students and staff about which pieces of furniture have been the most effective. Early next term I will inform parents and caregivers about the benefits of MLE furniture and how it will change the way ours students learn and our teachers teach. This is a very exciting time for Pasadena! Have a safe and enjoyable Holiday. Jonathan Hughes - Principal – [email protected] Student Learning Over the course of the term students have been looking at the theme “Where we are in time and place”. Students have been looking at how they learn and what effective learners look like. This unit with continue into term. Some student quotes are below regarding their learning: “This term for inquiry I learnt about the key competencies. Once I learnt this I realized what it meant to me as a learner, and how I can improve them. I think learning about the competencies has really helped me with my learning because now I know all the skills to help me improve my learning for example: Grading the skills and knowing what they mean and how I can improve them. Or enjoying learning about them and trying to bring them into the real world” Phoebe “This term we learnt about where we are in time and place (Right Here, Right Now) with our learning. We looked at the Multiple Intelligence Smarts, Key Competencies and Kowhaiwhai. Now we are making Kowhaiwhai to present our learning. I enjoyed learning about where I am in time and place because I’m now more aware of my learning skills, styles and goals” Rosie “Multiple intelligences have been enjoyable to learn about! I know what one is my best learning style and what one is not my best. My learning has definitely improved with the help of the multiple intelligences because I can understand my learning in different perspectives and it’s more effective for me to learn” Lucy Class Newsletters Class newsletters will be come home with students on Wednesday 29 April. This will contain information about student learning for Term 2, a reflection on Term 1 and some important dates to remember.
