Mission & Vision
BoHo Theatre’s mission is to create theatre
that incorporates the arts as a whole — Art
for art’s sake. Our vision is to challenge
convention through literary originality and
eclectic expression while fostering an everevolving artistic environment in which people
are inspired to learn, think, dream, and feel.
To teach others and ourselves how to expand,
create, and present art through theatre while

Unearthing Freedom
WILL I WANT, WILL I WISH
FOR ALL THE THINGS I SHOULD HAVE DONE:
LONGING TO FINISH
WHAT I ONLY JUST BEGUN?
–”How Glory Goes”
It is with extreme pride that BoHo Theatre
presents its final production of our 2011/2012
Season, exploring the Bohemian Pillar of
Freedom: Floyd Collins. On the surface, the
story revolves around the attempts to free
Floyd from his doom and the chaos of that
venture. Yet the show also explores Floyd’s
own spiritual and emotional freedom when
fear and isolation give way to inner reflection.
It is in the most extreme circumstances that
the complexity of familial relationships are unearthed.
Though the story tackles an enormous breadth of issues ranging from
media exploitation to prejudice, its core is that of family. Floyd’s plight
—trapped alone in a narrow and treacherous underground passageway—
exposed much of society’s strengths and weaknesses, showing moments of
both extreme greed and heroism. In their masterpiece, Tina Landau and
Adam Guettel have chosen to contrast these broader social issues with the
intimate family dynamics surrounding Floyd: their past, what binds them to
one another, their weaknesses, and how—in the end—there is no greater
source of both peace and pain than that of family. Guettel has woven
moments of simplicity and serenity throughout an incredibly complicated
and challenging score, just as Landau has blended the broader social
messages with the intimate and heartfelt story of a family. These contrasts
and challenges are what make Floyd Collins one of the most beloved pieces
in musical theater today.
Sincerely,
Peter Marston Sullivan

BoHo Theatre
Kicks off our
2012/13 Season!
Here at BoHo Theatre, our seasons are anchored by the Four Pillars of our
Bohemian Values: Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love. Each show in our season
is chosen to represent one of these pillars by highlighting that theme within its
production.
Join us for the first show in our 2012/2013 Season in September at The Heartland
Studio in Rogers Park.
The Spitfire Grill
Music & book by James Valcq | Lyrics & book by Fred Alley
Directed by Anna Hammonds
Sept 14 – Oct 14, 2012
Just released from a five-year prison sentence, Percy Talbot decides to begin
a new chapter in her life in the small town of Gilead, Wisconsin. There, she
crosses paths with Hannah, the owner of The Spitfire Grill, the town’s only
eatery and community gossip center. After sitting on the real estate market for
ten years, Hannah has decided to hold a raffle: for $100 and a hand written
essay, you could win the diner... and possibly a new beginning.
