MAKER OF THE WORLD’S
FINEST MODEL HORSES
Welcome to BreyerFest
elcome to BreyerFest!
W
This is our 24th annual BreyerFest , hosted by Breyer
Animal Creations , makers of the world’s finest model horses!
®
if you may pat their horses. Please listen to the horse owner’s
instructions - they are for your safety.
Leave no trace. Recycle and deposit all your trash in the many
receptacles provided!
Dogs. We love them too, but if you are not a Splash Dogs
competitor, leave them home! If you must bring your dog, they
must be on a leash at all times and you must ‘pooper scoop.’
Bring baggies for that purpose. Don’t forget water for them.
Do NOT leave any pets in your cars or the Kentucky Horse Park
Police will be notified.
Temperatures vary widely! Be prepared and dress appropriately.
Good walking shoes are a must. Drink lots of water. Food is
available or you can bring your own – lunch time is the most
crowded time for food vendors, so plan ahead!
Most importantly: HAVE FUN! MAKE FRIENDS! COME BACK
NEXT YEAR FOR OUR 25th SILVER CELEBRATION!
®
®
We are delighted to welcome you! BreyerFest is a place to meet
the horses that inspire our models, to learn more about the
model horse hobby and to make friends with people who love
horses and model horses as much as you do!
If you’ve been to BreyerFest before, we’ve made a few changes
to the program so please familiarize yourself with our new look.
If you are a newcomer, check out the First Timer’s Guide To
BreyerFest! The best way to have fun at BreyerFest is to look at
the schedule and make a plan for the day so you don’t miss out.
Please adhere to the following guidelines for everyone’s safety:
General Event Guidelines
The Help Desk is located near our giant inflatable horse,
Fluffy. Ask the friendly folks here for help! They know everything
about BreyerFest! This is also our Lost & Found area.
Breyer staffers will wear light blue polo shirts and have
walk-talkies. Need help? Ask us!
Horses have the right of way! Please be alert to horses
moving to and from the Covered Arena and elsewhere on the
grounds and use good judgment around them. Don’t you or your
children walk directly behind horses, run up to them or startle
them. The barns are accessible and you are welcome to visit the
horses and chat with their owners. Ask the horse owners first
Best wishes for a great BreyerFest from everyone at Breyer!
Emergency Procedures (If someone is hurt, or you’ve lost a
child or parent!): Don’t panic! Find a Breyer Staff member
immediately. We have EMTs, as well as the Kentucky Horse Park
Police on the grounds at all times. If you cannot reach a Breyer
staff member, call 911.
Breyer reserves the right to make any changes to the program, guests and offerings as necessary.

Perfect Day at BreyerFest
First Timer’s Guide
Plan ahead! The best way to ensure that you don’t miss out
on anything is to plan your schedule ahead of time. Make a note each day of your daily “must-see/do”
events and plan the rest of your activities around those things. If there are limited edition products
that you want to buy either in the Breyer Store or in the Boots & Bling Store, it’s usually a good idea to
acquire those items early in the day. After you have your ‘must see’ events noted and models picked
up, you can spend the rest of your time to enjoying BreyerFest and the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park.
If you are a Three-Day Ticket Holder…
• You’ll want to check your Special Run tickets and note the
time and day on them. Plan to be at the Special Run line
(at the bottom of the ramp to the entrance of the Breyer
Store) 15 minutes ahead of the time on the ticket. A number will be drawn and that number will start the line for that
time period. If you miss it, you will go to the back of the line,
so be on time!
If you are new to BreyerFest…
• Your Smart and Shiney celebration model will be available
during three pick-up times at Model Hand-Out starting at
noon on Friday so don’t feel like you need to stand in line.
Check the Daily Schedule for the time schedule for each
day.
Here are the things you won’t want to miss!
• Visit the Craft Activity Area: fun daily shows, face painting and
Stablemates painting, not to mention the Hands-On Hobby
Booth where you can learn all about the model horse hobby!
• You are eligible to enter the Music City Mash-Up Diorama
Contest as well as the Rhinestone Cowboy contest. Plan
ahead and enter – you may win a fun prize!
• Check the equestrian schedule and autograph schedule daily
so you don’t miss someone you want to see or meet!
• Walk around the concourse to visit our Marketplace vendors.
They have great things for sale!
• The fun continues after dark at the Clarion Hotel with the
Artisans’ Gallery and the Swap Meet (see pg. 18 for more
details) as well as room sales!
• Check out the television monitors around the Covered Arena
to tell you what’s going on when.
If you are a Single-Day Ticket Holder…
• Save some time to watch Splash Dogs, the Kids Jump Off and
stop by the Petting Zoo.
• Start your day off by picking up your exclusive BreyerFest Stablemate at the Help Desk! Each Single Day ticket
comes with one of four (randomly distributed) models.
• Be sure to take advantage of your visit to the Kentucky Horse
Park to actually see it! The Visitor’s Information Center (VIC),
International Museum of the Horse, the Kids Barn and the
other barns are well worth it!
• T he Adequan North American Junior/Young Rider Championships presented by Gotham North will be held at the KHP simultaneously. Take time to see North America’s elite young riders!
• Make time to hit the Boots & Bling Store and the Breyer Store
• Get to the stable to see our special guest horses up close and
personal!
• Don’t forget the Tennessee River Concert on Saturday Night –
join the line dancing and have some fun!

On top of his astonishing good looks, Smart and Shiney has outstanding
breeding. He’s sired by Smart Shiner, and his grandsire is Shining Spark,
National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame inductee and
legend in the reining world! With his earnings currently over $100,000
and rising, Smart and Shiney has been enjoying a successful career,
no doubt in part to his talented trainer, Tim McQuay. Tim McQuay, NRHA
Hall of Fame inductee and the first-ever $2 Million Dollar rider in NRHA
history and now $3 Million Dollar Rider, has ridden him to several top 10
finishes, derby championships and finalist placings! Lovett shows Smart
and Shiney in non-pro classes and exhibitions, while McQuay has been his
primary rider for open competition. In 2010, Smart and Shiney was loaned
to team Italy at the World Equestrian Games with McQuay’s assistant trainer
Marco Ricotta in the saddle, earning team bronze in reining!
Currently standing at stud, Smart and Shiney has sired winners
in his first two foal crops, and we’ll be sure to see more new
generations of reining horses that will live up to their sire’s name!

Double Dan Horsemanship
B
reyer is thrilled to present 2012 Road to the Horse winner
Dan James of Double Dan Horsemanship at BreyerFest. The
Road to the Horse, a combination competition and tutorial
on gentle techniques for bonding with horses, has become the world
championships of colt starting and the event has been described
as ‘mesmerizing’. 2012’s event was won by Dan James and former
BreyerFest guest Guy McLean.
Steers and James relocated
to New South Wales and
Double Dan Horsemanship
was born. Today, Dan James
operates from his home base
in Kentucky while Dan Steers
in based in Australia.
Born in Queensland, Australia on a small cattle farm, Dan James
started his first colt in his early teens which led to him on a
life-long quest around the world to learn and understand more about
how horses think. His search for answers has led him to Longreach
Pastoral College; to Hokkaido, Japan to start horses; to Celina, Texas to
work for cutting horse trainer Punk Carter; and finally back to Australia
to work on a cattle station in Western Australia. In 2008, James joined
his good friend, Dan Steers, in Western Australia at El Caballo Spanish
Horse Centre where they performed together each weekend in the “Dan
and Dan Show” developing their horsemanship techniques. In 2009,
In 2008, James was recognized as a world class colt trainer when
he won the “Way of the Horse” at Equitana Asia Pacific. In 2012, James
wowed judges again with his incredible training techniques winning
the coveted Road to the Horse International Colt Starting World
Champion title.
©Double Dan Horsemanship
James continues to push the limits of horsemanship and entertainment with eye-opening clinics and exhilarating performances. Dan will
be performing several times daily! Check the Daily Schedule for his
performance times. You won’t want to miss this amazing horseman!

Beneficiaries
Giving Back
Each year, BreyerFest hosts two raffles, a Silent Auction and a Live Auction from which a portion of
the proceeds benefit a wide variety of non-profit organizations. In general, Breyer tends to restrict
its support to equine and animal welfare, children’s charities, therapeutic riding and environmental
protection and stewardship. Your raffle, and Live and Silent Auction purchases help to support these
efforts! Over the last 24 years, Breyer has donated more than $900,000 thanks to the continued
generosity of BreyerFest attendees!
We are pleased to support the following groups, among others,
as 2013 BreyerFest Beneficiaries:
American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(ASPCA)
Humane Society of the United
States (HSUS)
ASPCA was the first humane society to be
established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in
the world. ASPCA provides local and national leadership in three
key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty. The
ASPCA’s mission, as stated by Henry Bergh in 1866, is “to provide
effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout
the United States.”
The HSUS is the nation’s largest
animal protection organization, rated the most effective by its
peers. Since 1954, they’ve been fighting for the protection of all
animals through advocacy, education, and hands-on programs.
The HSUS is a mainstream voice for animals, with active programs in companion animals, wildlife and habitat protection,
animals in research, and farm animals. They protect all animals
through legislation, litigation, investigation, education, science,
advocacy, and field work.

Loss of open land has been identified
as the greatest threat to the future of
Equestrian Land
all equestrian sport, recreation, and inConservation Resource
dustry. By educating horse people and
encouraging partnerships with conservationists and other user
groups at the local level the Equine Land Conservation Resource
is mobilizing thousands of equestrians to work for land access and
protection in their communities.

organization.
More
than 6 million 4-H youth in urban
neighborhoods, suburban schoolyards
and rural farming communities participate. As the youth
development program of the nation’s 109 land-grant universities
and the Cooperative Extension System, 4-H fosters an innovative,
“learn by doing” approach with proven results.
Friends Of Sound Horses
(FOSH)
The mission of FOSH, is to promote all
sound, naturally gaited horses, with a
specific emphasis on Tennessee Walking
Horses.Through their efforts in education
on sound training principles and working to end soring practices,
FOSH has become a national leader in the promotion of sound
gaited horses.

Since 1985, PCRM has been influencing
advancements in medicine and
science. Comprised of 150,000
health care professionals and concerned citizens, advocates for
preventive medicine (with a special focus on good nutrition), PCRM
conducts clinical research, and advocates for higher ethical
standards in research. PCRM promotes preventive medicine through
innovative programs and advocates for alternatives to animal
research and animal testing.
Professional Association of
Therapeutic Horsemanship
International (PATH Intl.)
Since 1969, PATH Int’l has provided
Equine-Assisted Activity and Therapy
(EAAT) programs in the U.S.A. and
Canada through its network of nearly
800 member centers. Each year, dozens of new centers initiate
new programs and more than 42,000 individuals with special
needs benefit from activities which include therapeutic riding,
hippotherapy, equine facilitated psychotherapy and learning,
driving, interactive vaulting and competition.
