St. Andrew Trumpeter NOVEMBER 2015 Pastor’s Soundings in the Trumpeter... We leave the celebration of the Reformation (October 31), resting on God’s Word, centered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We enter November with All Saints Day (November 1) and Confirmation in our congregation on that same day. Through the Rite of Confirmation, nine men and women publically proclaim that they stand with us who confess that Scripture is God’s Word and teaches that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Together we are being prepared to face an ever changing world as Psalm 46:6 (NIV84), says, “Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.” But before “the earth melts,” the Gospel of Jesus Christ is also bringing changes in people’s lives. Check out the October 2015 edition of the “Reporter” in the Library. The “Reporter” is our official newspaper of our national synod, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The front page article shares the challenge of 1,000 of Middle East refugees entering into Europe. Our sister church body, the SELK, in Germany and its congregations are addressing the situation with Christ’s mercy and care and people’s lives are changed. “We have 860 members; more than 600 of them are former Muslims who have become Christian the last years,” said Rev. Dr. Gottfried Martens, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Berlin-Steglitz.” Consider your own roots. As you go back far enough, we can find those who did not believe Gospel of Jesus, and yet by the grace of God, we stand confessing Jesus. As we consider those around us, around our church building. What opportunities do we have in our community to share Christ’s mercy and love in concrete ways. We will end this month in Thanksgiving for what the Lord has given us and in Advent looking forward to the coming Christ. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:10–11 (ESV), “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.” In Christ's victory; Pastor Jahnke Philippians 4:8 1 FM AREA LUTHERANS FOR LIFE 2015 FALL DESSERT BANQUET ND DISTRICT MEN’S WINTER RETREAT Friday, Jan 15 at 6pm through Saturday, Jan 16 at 3:30pm, 2016 at Shepherd’s Hill at the Crossroads, St. John, ND. “I heard the Lord call my name-twice” by presenter Dr. Bruce Wurdeman, Director of Lutheran Hour Ministries 2009-2013. "WOODLAWN" MOVIE RECOMMENDED! 2016 STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMCOMING SOON! I recently attended the movie "WOODLAWN" and highly recommend it! The movie tells the inspiring true story about a high school team that through the love of Jesus overcame the hate-fueled racism in Birmingham, Alabama in the 1970s.The film's message of reconciliation is a timely one, especially now in view of renewed racial unrest in Ferguson and around the country. FOCUS ON THE FAMILY's October issue of "Citizen" magazine featured the movie as it's cover story. I have place a photocopy of the story on our church community bulletin board. -Ken Koehler Watch for information in the near future on the 2016 Stewardship Campaign. In addition to the traditional Stewardship focus areas of Time, Talent and Treasure, this year's campaign will also include the elements of Terrestrial, Tissue, Trash and Togetherness. These will be explained in more detail as well as the activities we have planned around these elements. -Board of Stewardship 3 ST. ANDREW YOUTH HOLIDAY BAZAAR!
