CATALOG 2011 What we do Our idea is to produce very innovative solutions with a minimum of parts. We never copy anyone else as there is always the need of improvement. The scope mounts we manufacture is a typical example, scope mounts have been made almost the same way by loads of manufacturers for over 100 years, and there is very little difference between various manufacturers technical design. That is, until ours came on the market in 2010… We have taken the scope mount from being a holder of the scope to a system for mounting the scope as well as accessories such as back-up sights, lasers and cosine meters. At the same time we made our scope mount sturdier than any competitor, invented a new system for aligning the scope’s rotation and constructed it so that the knobs are more visible than on probably any 2 other mount. This means that you can check your knobs almost without moving your head. Convenient on the range for sure, but a life-saver if you are a deployed sniper who is checking your values when in hide. Another good example is 40 mm grenade launcher mounts, that very often have the readings from the wrong direction so the soldier only could read the distance settings with the gun dismounted. We have made a mount where the soldier can see and adjust the sight from the shooting position with the gun mounted. After glowing paint or Tritium inserts make sure that it can be done in low-light conditions as well. Our humble experience tells us that combat environments have a tendency not to be optimally lit. Our many customers at the tip of the spear around the world tells us that we are right. Materials The use of the very best material and coatings gives the products a very long life and that little extra that is needed for the serviceman and his equipment to perform under the worst conditions. All products marked Spuhr are intended for difficult missions and severe circumstances. History The company started a few years ago when Håkan worked as a gunsmith and made some solutions for Aimpoint. The Aimpoint Twist mount and the MPS mount are the results from that collaboration. Rumors spread about the gunsmith with the extraordinary solutions, and soon some military units needed help, and that is the background of the company. Today we work with a number of armed forces around the world as well as manufacturers. Some products are the results that came from the military’s need for new solutions, while other products like the scopemount is the result from our own shooting and hunting experience. Our products are not like, say, a toaster. A malfunction in these environments leaves you with far worse problems than a bad sandwich. This is life and death applications. Quality and function is paramount. As much as possible is manufactured locally in Sweden. This gives us maximum control over the production to achieve the highest precision and quality. 3 GRENADE LAUNCHER SIGHT Patent pending Easy-to-use and accurate grenade launcher sight for use with Red Dot Sight and/or laser. Speeds up target acquisition. Fully ambidextrous. After glowing paint or Tritium inserts for low light situations. Precision-made and rattle-free. Red Dot Sights Mount for using a Red Dot Sight and/or laser on a 40 mm grenade launcher. The mount can be set up to carry most brands of small Red Dot Sights, such as Aimpoint Micro, Trijicon RMR, Docter, or what the customer prefers. Laser Sights The mount can be fitted with most small or medium sized Laser Sights, either on picatinny rail or direct mount (both optional). 100-/200-/300-meter/yard settings so the user can easily adjust for range even in darkness. The laser sight is also a great asset in low light situations. Spin drift compensation The mount has built-in spin drift compensation based on customer specification and desired ammunition. Flexibility Of Design We are extremely flexible and will tailor any product to match the customers’ requirements and ideas Accuracy A well trained soldier with a fair estimate of distance can without difficulty hit a normal window at up to 164 yards (150 meters). The speed of target acquisition is also greatly enhanced. Ambidextrous The sight is fully ambidextrous and can within minutes be mounted on either side of the rifle/launcher. The sight does not require any extra parts for changing the mounting side. Low Light Situations For low light situations the rear scale is fitted with after glowing paint or tritium inserts (optional) at the 4 SPECIFICATION Weight: From 140 gm Dimensions: L: 120mm, H: 70mm (without sight), W: 35mm Material: 7075 Aluminum Surface treatment: Hard coated sealed surface. The user can choose to use one or two monoculars, and change instantly when he needs it. Monocular can very quickly be moved from head to gun. This innovative product allows the user to change from one to two monoculars, and back again, as the need arises. The mount is very stable and quiet, with no rattling or shaking parts. The mount is very flexible with multiple adjustments and settings, and can be adjusted for tilt, eye width and/or eye-relief within seconds. For the user who likes to use his right-eye monocular mounted on his firearm, the monocular can be securely moved from the head to the gun or back again within seconds. The Headmount/Helmet Mount has a quick interface with adjustment memory, giving the user the possibility to quickly transfer the whole system with goggles from his helmet to his head (or back) if the situation warrants it. Some operators prefer to parachute without goggles mounted, opting to mount them only after releasing the parachute, as to prevent the goggles from getting tangled in the risers of the parachute. With the Light-weight Flexible NVG Mount the operator can keep a clean helmet during descent and within seconds of releasing the parachute have the goggles securely mounted without any need to readjust any settings! Headmount on the market, providing the highest comfort for the greatest variety of head shapes possible. The Headmount stays in place without any strain or excessive pressure, preventing the commonly experienced headaches and neck pains associated with extended wearing of headmounted NVG’s. Goggle fit The Light-weight Flexible NVG Mount is ideally used with Insight/NiViSys MUM-14 as their NVG´s are the lightest on the market to date, but other monoculars such as the ITT PVS-14 can easily be mounted as well. Flexibility of design We are extremely flexible and will tailor any product to match the customers’ requirements and ideas. Built-in level. 45 degree split of the rings gives better view of the knobs. Durability Prevents damage on scope due to flexing during heavy recoil or rough environment. The snipers rifle and the spotters carbine can have the same mount, enabling the use of same equipment and accessories. Rings are grooved inside to get a better grip of the scope and enabling gluing of the scope. The mount is milled out of one billet of material instead of being screwed together of small parts. Scope rotation Patent pending solution for indexing the rotation of the scope, using an included tool/gauge to index the scope correctly to the mount and gun. Important since a incorrectly indexed scope unintentionally will also have a sideways adjusted point of impact and since it will be adjusted sideways when it is adjusted for elevation. Mounting placements Traditionally lasers have been mounted on the forend of the rifle, a solution with drawbacks. For the same reasons you don’t want your barrel to touch the forend you don´t want the sights to be mounted on the forend. Our mounting system have minimum seven interfaces for accessories and the laser can easily be mounted on the mount, given the advantage of undisturbed laser and the weight more central on the gun instead of forward. Tilt Mounts can be delivered in various tilts. The tilt is clearly engraved on the mount, in both MIL and MOA. Accessible and readable dials The rings are cut 45 degrees instead of horizontal as usual, providing several advantages. The screws holding the parts together are not in the way of the knobs, thus the shooter can quickly determine the settings of the knobs. It also gives the shooter a horizontal line that not directly are seen but is existing and helping the shooter not to 8 rotate his gun unintentionally. The rings have index marks on the top and right side, making low knobs more easily readable Accessories Possibility of using various accessories such as angle cosine indicator, back up sights, lasers, illuminators, Night vision mounts etc. With traditional mounts this can be achieved only if there is sufficient space on the middle tube for additional rings, which there rarely is. Ideal Scope Mount System have interface surfaces directly on the mount, making it possible to mount accessories either by Picatinny rails or as direct interfaces for certain accessories as angle cosine indicators and red dot sights. A selection of interfaces for popular accessories are available, and others can be made to specification. Level The sight mount have a level included inside the mount. Please keep in mind that all the shown parts here are prototypes, and some changes can and will take place. Magwell for M4-M16 mags. Top Rail for G36 This is an ambidextrous magwell for the G36 that converts the G36 to accept readily available M4/M16 magazines. Easy installment by just removing the original magcatch parts and drop in the magwell into the gun. The toprail is manufactured of 7075 aluminium (as well as all our aluminium parts), is very strong but the weight is only 200 grams. Its very low, to take down the high line of sight of the G36. Its fitted with emergency sights, that are fully adjustable with tools. The sights will be fitted with tritium as well. We also manufacture a new bolt stop that is needed to replace the original boltstop if the boltstop function should work. Spare battery compartment in the magwell. The battery is not needed for the operation of the magwell, it’s just a spare for the sight. Front of rail fitted with Spuhr interface, where several various assesories can be mounted. The rear part of the rail is lowered to accommodate a low mounting of the NV equipment. For those who prefers a full long rail with no lowering, there is a picatinny spacer piece included (shown in the third picture). Please observe that the picatinny rail is heavily dehorned to avoid upstanding chips and problems after heavy use. Also a way of saving the hands and fingers of the users. Accessories, as an Oerlikon LLM laser can be mounted on the top rail, instead of the forend. That is an easy way of keeping it’s zero, as it’s impossible to have the forend to not move around. For that mount, we have used the Spuhr interface described on page 14. Rear sight up, folded and folded with picatinny spacer in place. NV equipment on the lowered part of the rail. 12 Front sight shown in both positions. Simple rugged solution, will eventually be fitted with tritium. 13 SPUHR INTERFACE ONGOING AND FUTURE PROJECTS A chain is never stronger than its weakest link. Spuhr Interface is a lightweight solution that enables the user to mount accessories with perfect fit and absolutely rattle-free. We currently work on some new products as well as additions and developments on existing projects. Instead of filling the various items with meters/yards of picatinny rail which both takes lot of space and add lots of undesired weight and less comfortable feel, we decided to make a small interface that has no weight – In fact, it has a negative weight as it’s removed material. We work on a number of projects at the same time. Some are soon to be produced and others are closer to dreams. Here are a few. The Interface consists of two threaded holes with a dual conical parts that will hold the items very well and in the same position. For this interface we manufacture a broad range of accessories that fits perfectly and absolutely playfree. Various picatinny parts, direct mounts for various sights as Aimpoint 14 Micro, Trijicon RMR, Docter and other special items. The direct mount has the advantage of stronger sturdier mount than using a picatinny in between, lower/tighter mounting and most importantly lower weight. • We have decided to not protect this interface, and instead help those manufacturers who want to use it. So if you as a manufacturer have any wish to use the interface please contact us, and we will supply you with drawings, files and also tooling if needed. • • • We will make a separate ring version of the scope mount. G36 will get a new ambidextrous magwell for M16 mags A simple railsystem for MAG 58 machine guns Loads of new accessories for our scopemounts • • A lightweight breaching gun are on the drawingboard as well A line of extremely simple and playfree back-up sigths. Flexibility of design We are extremely flexible and will tailor any product to match the customers’ requirements and ideas. If you have a special project or an adaption of an existing product in mind, do not hesitate to contact us. 15 A WORD ABOUT MATERIALS – 7075 ALUMINUM 7,8 572 503 455 6061 T6 379 330 290 341 255 2,8 7075 T651 Construction steel Tensile strength ultimate (Mpa) Tensile strength yield We use primarily 7075 T651 aluminum in our products. It has some disadvantages: It is expensive and tricky to do surface treatments on among others. But after it is done and the mount or sight is on your gun or helmet there is nothing but advantages. It is lighter than titanium and steel, and in our cases better suited for the applications. It is stronger and has far better fatigue strength than 6061 aluminum that most of our competitors use. The Tensile strength of the 7075 (Mpa) Shear strenght OF Density (gram/cm3) (Mpa) T651 is about 80% higher than 6061 T6. Compared to normal or lower grades of steel it’s comparable. In fact the 7075 T651 is so good that we stopped using Helicoil thread inserts as the threads itself is more than sufficiently strong. In short: It is the best possible material for our products as it is the best possible material if you are looking for advantages. And who isn’t?
