Libraries in Erie County are an integral
part of the communities and receive
tremendous support from residents. Many
are part of the ClevNet Consortium, a
library loan network involving 30 libraries
in northern Ohio, including the Cleveland
Public Library. ClevNet allows patrons to
check out books from all participating
libraries.
Schools – The Building
Blocks of Success
Education has long been a top
priority for the residents of Erie
County. Area schools not only serve as
centers of learning, but as places for residents to come together and support the
youth of the communities and each other.
Public Schools
Parents and students can choose from six
public school systems: Sandusky, Huron,
Vermilion, Perkins, Margaretta (Castalia
and Margaretta Township), and BerlinMilan (Berlin Heights and Milan). The
Erie, Huron, Ottawa Vocational Career
Center, known locally as EHOVE, is a
vocational school that serves high school
students from Erie County and seven
other school districts.
Private Schools
There are several alternatives for those
parents and students who are interested
in private schooling. Sandusky Central
Catholic Schools in Sandusky provides
Catholic education for students from preschool to high school, and Huron’s St.
Peter School is available to students in
preschool through eighth grade. Both of
these school systems are strongly supported by their communities.
The Firelands Montessori Academy in
Huron has been educating students from
preschool through sixth grade using the
philosophy of the renowned Italian educator Maria Montessori for almost 30 years.
Lake Ridge Academy, located about 40
miles east in North Ridgeville, provides a
challenging academic program which prepares students to succeed at rigorous colleges and universities across the nation. A
