WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE CHILLIWACK CULTURAL CENTRE:
 He’s back! The master of virtuosity in every sense of the word, from acting to comedy to musical
mastery, Chase Padgett returns to Chilliwack Cultural Centre this October with his whirlwind of
country fingerpickin’ fury Nashville Hurricane! After a spectacular barnstorming of Chilliwack with
his wonderful 6 Guitars in The Centre’s last season, Chase will be bringing the mysterious tale of
the best damned guitarist you’ve never heard of to life in The Centre on October 22, 25 and 26.
 After taking a year-long break from presenting live professional dance, The Chilliwack Arts &
Cultural Centre Society is thrilled to bring more vibrant, captivating, and boundary-pushing art to
the community, with Rainbow Dance Theatre presenting the eclectic, exhilarating, and
intellectually engaging Mixed Bag on October 23.
 Everybody knows the classical tale of Dorothy, Toto, and their adventure to The Emerald City…
but nobody knows it quite like what you’ll find when you take a trip down the Yellow Brick Road
with the incredible The Circus of Oz! Coming to Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 2:00pm on
October 25, CircusWest returns with their retelling of the heartwarming story of one little girl’s
adventures over the rainbow with a whole new twist (and tumble!), bringing the thrill and fun of
circus arts into the mix to present a fantastically fun family day out the kids are sure to never
forget.

Integrating Technology into the Curriculum
Using technology in the classroom to complete projects requires a huge time commitment and a certain level of
technology know-how. Facing the challenges of implementing technology can be daunting and result in
teachers giving up before they start.
During this workshop, you will see examples of how to design projects that meet learning outcomes in several
curricular areas (including those difficult to get to such as health and career education). Technology like
iPads/iPods, digital cameras, laptops and a variety of web tools and programs such as Comic Life, iMovie and
numerous apps will be explored.
This workshop has recently been revamped to include more hands on practice and experiential learning and
will also introduce you to the OSMO and the Ed Tech departments’ set of iPads that you can sign out for your
school.
Presenters: Kris Sward, Teacher at Unsworth Elementary and Scott Gregory, Teacher at Yarrow Elementary
Target Audience: Elementary Teachers
Introduction to Moodle
This session is for those who are interested in learning more about Moodle and how it can help you
make a blended classroom. Jeff can also set up a Moodle account for you to try, so please bring some
electronic resources you would like to use.
Presenter: Jeff Campbell, Secondary Technology Helping Teacher
Target Audience: Secondary Teachers
Everyone is welcome.

students’ gaps in learning. Each participant will receive a copy of The ANIE!
Presenters: Andy Fast and Paul Wojcik, Teachers at Vedder Elementary School
Target Audience: Math Teachers (all grades)

pages, user accounts and webforms. He will also show you how to add rotating images and home
images, how to embed photos and add attachments as well as how to link documents, webpages and
email addresses.
During this session, you will also get an understanding of who is visiting your website by reviewing the
Google Analytics Reports. Come with all your website questions!

Mirror Image is a game format for students that allows them to problem solve and gain skills on how to
protect themselves from predators. In this session, a fictionalized version of a predator case is used to
demonstrate how to protect ourselves and our computers and when to turn to a trusted adult.
Presenter: Drew-Ann Wake
Target Audience: Teachers (gr. 6-12)
Mindfulness, Children and Happiness
With deep insight, understanding, warmth and humour, Sister Jessie will help shed light on why
mindfulness in the workplace and our classrooms (such as the recent Mind Up Curriculum) have begun
to sweep across the continent. If you have ever been curious about how mindfulness works, this
workshop is for you. If you have started using a program like Mind Up, this workshop allows you to hear
a master meditator speak and demonstrate on the topic of mindfulness.
Using direct experience, Sister Jessie will explore the intersections of mindfulness, self-care and care of
the students in your classroom. Demonstrating the use of simple things like popcorn, our own human
bodies and every day classroom experiences, Sister Jessie will guide participants through mindfulness
exercises that teachers, EA’s and parents can use to support children in becoming more grounded,
happier and harmonious members of their families and our school communities.

I am mother to four fantastic little boys and the Resource Teacher at Chilliwack Middle School, where I have
taught for the last 6 years.
I am an avid consumer of everything tech, both in my personal and professional life. I believe that technology is
one of the key foundations for my students’ success and the potential for student achievement can be extended
with the effective integration of the correct technology in both their school and home lives.
In my experience in the area of Special Education, a students’ ability to communicate their needs and wants is
quite often based on their ability to communicate with others through the use of technology. I also work
extensively with children in the area of Student Support. Often their exposure to technology can be limited and
frustrating. I work to give those students the opportunity to demonstrate their learning through non-conventional
means such as short movies, comics and pictures, through various apps so that students are able to successfully
demonstrate their learning where they may have had difficulties before.
Much of my professional experience is with Apple Technology (lap tops, desk tops, iPads, iPhones, iPods) Apps
for learning, iMovie, OSMO as well as Kurzweil, Dragon Speak, SET BC programs and equipment and other
adaptive learning tools.

I’m very interested in helping teachers develop projects that use technology to address learning outcomes in
various subjects at their grade level.
I have a lot of experience with Mac computers, iPads, and Apple TV. I am also very experienced at developing
projects that address learning outcomes across multiple subject areas in the grades 5 and 6 curriculum. As a
technology project can demand a significant time commitment, I find it important to have projects that provide
assessment in more than one subject area.
I have an interest in projects that incorporate the following technology:
PowerPoint presentations
Brochures and flyers
Photo / video editing
Comic Life projects
Podcasts (radio plays)
Story writing by story boarding
iMovie
Blogs
Students really love using technology and it’s a great way to cover some of those harder to get learning outcomes
(in particular Health and Career Education). Students also develop some great prerequisite technology skills that
will be useful to them in middle and secondary school.

For Kris it all started in 2012 when she was granted six months of a pilot project to explore how teaching and
learning in her classroom could benefit from the use of a kit of 15 iPods. Since then, Kris has not stopped learning
and exploring technology! Kris has extensive experience using iPods and iPads, Lenovo ThinkPads and her
Smartboard to employ a variety of apps, Web 2.0 tools and software to engage and excite her students and take
all of their learning to the next level. Kris has led her students in the use of dynamic tools, apps and programs that
enabled them to effectively research, compile and present information, introduced them to a virtual learning
environment through the use of the BCNexus portal, employed education.weebly.com as a place where students
could create exciting personal webspaces from which they blog, complete online activities and maintain an
ePortfolio of their work, and generally used technology to advance her own, and her students learning in ways that
were previously unimaginable to her. She has been influential in putting technology into the hands of every student
at her school, and has created exciting and engaging learning opportunities for students of all ages.
