CITY OF FLEMINGSBURG
HISTORIC DOWNTOWN WALKING TRAILS
Friday, June 27, 2014
The City of Flemingsburg invites everyone to put on your walking shoes and explore the new Historic Downtown
Walking Trails. With funds received from the Recreational Trails Program, directional marker trail signs were
purchased and have now been put in place for the two trails. The Black Trail, designated by black arrows is a 1.7 mile
trail that begins in the City’s Newman Park playground area, incorporates the Old Reservoir Trail at the lake, and then
travels down West Water Street to Main Cross, finally turning at West Electric Avenue and ending again in the park.
The Gold Trail, marked by yellow arrows, is
a 2.8 mile trail that begins in the same location, goes around the lake and then follows
West Main Street to Main Cross, comes
down Courthouse Hill and then proceeds
along East Water Street to the cemetery and
then follows Railroad Street and Electric
Avenue back to its beginning in the park.
A large map is located in the parking lot
near the playground where the trails begin
and another one will be erected in the parking lot across from the museum for walkers
who want to begin at that location. There
are 30 historic buildings located along these
two trails and each building has a marker
with information about the building.
The City would like to thank the officials at the Department for Local Government for approving the funds from
the Recreational Trails Program; Crystal Ruark, Executive Director of the Fleming County Chamber of Commerce for
providing pictures and information for each of the included buildings; the property owners who consented to have
their buildings included on the trails and provided vital historical information; and the Flemingsburg Public Works
department for erecting the signs and markers.
Attending the Ribbon Cutting along with Mayor and the City Employees were members of the Chamber
Board of Directors and Discover Flemingsburg. Photos were taken by: Crystal and Andrea Ruark

Contest
The Fleming County Covered Bridge
Museum is open on
Wednesdays, 10:00-4:00 and on
Saturdays from 12:00-4:00.
Each month at the Fleming County Covered
Bridge Museum, we try to spotlight various
towns, events, etc. in our county. During July,
we will be focusing on the County Fair when it
was located at the old fairgrounds (where
McDonald’s is now located) and at Ewing. We
are asking if you have any artifacts (such as
ribbons or trophies), projects that you may have
made and entered in the fair, pictures or news
clippings such as for the beauty pageant or baby
show, or other items advertising the fair such as
posters, postcards, or programs, that you would
be willing to loan or allow us to copy. It will
make our display more complete.
In August, we will be focusing on the
automotive industry. Fleming County had
several car dealerships, garages and gas stations.
Again, any promotional items such as yard sticks,
ice scrapers, matches, key rings, calendars, etc.
with business names; pictures, clippings, etc. that
you can loan to us during the month will be a
bonus to our display.
Questions can be directed to Brenda Plummer
at 849-2957 or

We hope that you will come and visit! The
museum is open on Wednesdays 10:00-4:00 and
on Saturdays from 12:00-4:00.
We are glad to open at other times by
appointment. Please contact the Chamber at
845-1223 for other information.

The Fleming County Chamber of Commerce would like to say thank you to
Greentree Forest Products, Inc., for hosting our Business and Industry Tour on May 5th.
We were honored to be joined by friends from both the Maysville-Mason County and
Morehead-Rowan County Chambers of Commerce.
GreenTree Forest Products, Inc. was established in 1990 and currently produces 8,000,000
board feet of Appalachian hardwood lumber annually. GreenTree is owned and operated by the third generation
of a sawmill family. This legacy began in 1952 when J. C. Wells and his four sons, Don, Jim, Bill and David ordered their first Corley sawmill, and had it
shipped to their farm in Morehead, Kentucky.
From there it grew into a large sawmill, pallet & fencing manufacturing facility. In the spring of 2003, David
Wells' children, James, Greg and Michelle, purchased the J. C. Wells & Sons business and renamed it Valley
View Hardwoods, Inc. They then set out on a mission to bring the current facility up to date and modernize the
equipment. Today, Valley View Hardwoods produces an additional 12,000,000 board feet of hardwood l
umber, bringing our total annual production, at both locations, to approximately 20,000,000 board feet per
year.
Our Products are shipped on our company owned trucks as well as a fleet of contracted carriers. We are
proud of our just-in-time deliveries to many of our pallet customers. GreenTree Forest Products, Inc. currently
has 60 full time employees. GreenTree purchases logs from Fleming and surrounding counties putting
approximately 2.5 million dollars annually back into the economy.
To contact us or for more information you may visit our web site www.greentreeforest.com.
Thank you again to the Wells Family for inviting us out to their business.
If you or your business are interested in hosting a tour, please contact a
Chamber Director or call the Chamber office @ 606-845-1223.

stated John Hyatt.
Criteria stated that for a student to be eligible for the
drawing he/she must maintain a 3.0 GPA, have a 98%
or better attendance, no unexcused absences and No
discipline referrals. 25 FHCS Seniors met the criteria and
were placed in the drawing for the car. As eligible seniors
crossed the stage to receive their diplomas they each draw
a paper key with a number on it. Following the graduation
ceremonies the 25 students circled the vehicle and John
Hyatt announced the winning number.
Andy Conway was the winner of the Cheap’s
Chevrolet Circle of Excellence Car Give Away.
