A Message from our President
Our September rally was located in the foothills east of Temecula at Tucalota Springs.
The Camp manager said that it means “Owl” in Spanish, and was the home of native
Indians. The area was rich in evidence to support their claim. There were numerous
artifacts to view including metates (*) and an area in the rock formations believed to be a
used as a bake oven.
Their pool was refreshing in the September heat.
Looking forward to the November Rally at Santee lakes. Our hosts are the Mathies and
the Blacklocks. They will have everything lined up for us come November.
Once again we will be gathering donated items to be sent to our warriors on the battlefield, so watch for the
list of needed items to follow. We will also be boxing them up and preparing for shipment.
Thanks in advance for your generosity for such a worthy cause.
Regards
(*) Metate: a flat or slightly hollowed oblong stone on which materials such
as grain and cocoa are ground using a smaller stone (from American Spanish,
from Nahuatl métatl). (Apple Dictionary)

September 14-16 Tucalota Springs RV Resort
Rally in the Temecula Wine Country
By Bobbi Mathies
What a way to end the summer – more hot weather! But all of us who ventured to Tucalota Springs were
pleasantly surprised that it was actually more pleasant there that where we had come from. Although it
was hot, it was dry and there was a pleasant breeze – and a “cool” pool to refresh! Rick and Irene were
the big winners – the hottest place was Bonita!
The eleven rigs included Rick & Irene, Michael & Nancy, Vince & Trish, Lisa & Austin, Dave & Vi, Bev
Kuhn, Fred & Julia, Dick & Bobbi, Dan & Doris, Joe & Anne and Bill Wright.
Several of us ventured out to the Winchester Cheese Factory (always a favorite) only to find that it is
closed (rumors are that the second generation thought the land was worth more than the cheese making
business!). So, we headed to Polly’s Pies for a great lunch and the most delicious berry pie!
Joe and Anne were avid “fisher people” and it sounded like Anne was the champion!!
And it is always fun just to have the opportunity to visit with great friends.
Thanks to Dan and Doris for arranging a great rally!!

Fred & Julia Lyon invite you to travel with them
Let’s travel together to January & February Airstream Events in Blythe
(Midwinter IBT - International Board of Trustees Meeting and Airstream’s Hobo Rally)
The Midwinter IBT Meeting is the event where most decisions are made about how the club is run
and prepares for decision meetings at the annual International Rally (to be held in Huron, SD this
June & July). This Midwinter IBT meeting may not be action-packed but it normally is held in the
east or mid-west, so now is a convenient time to attend if you have any interest in seeing the club’s
decision-making process, i.e., why WBCCI is as perplexing as it is. Of course, you can skip IBT and
go only to the Hobo Rally.
IBT will start for us on Jan 23 or 24 and ends on Monday, Jan 28 when the national Hobo Rally picks
up at the same place and runs to Sunday February 3. IBT attendees stay in the same parking spot
for both and get a small deduction in cost.
What’s to do: Besides meetings the nearby huge and spectacular Quartzsite Swap Meet, which
every RV’er should see at least once in their lifetime www.quartzsitervshow.com and the associated
Gem & Rock Show www.desertusa.com/Cities/az/quartzsite.html, attract lots & lots of visitors. Both
will be in full swing during the IBT/Hobo rally and they are worth several or more days of exploration.
Also, London Bridge and Lake Havasu City among other attractions are only a short drive away.
Of course, the Hobo Rally will have a full slate of events and Dan Smith is helping to plan the famous
Hobo Parade, see our website for more details - airstreamsandiego.com .
OUR TRIP TOGETHER: We will be leaving immediately from the January Unit Rally at Circle RV
Park in El Cajon on Sunday, January 20 and going 100 miles to El Centro for two nights where the
Navy’s Blue Angels are scheduled to practice. Also, we may get a tour of a nearby geothermal
electric power generating plant.
Leaving El Centro on Tuesday, January 22 we will head north for 50 miles on the east side of Salton
Sea to Niland and stay at the Fountain of Youth Spa and RV Resort www.foyspa.com. We may get a
tour of a tilapia fish farm which has the added interest of generating all of its power by geothermal
energy, and we can visit “The Slabs” www.ask.com/wiki/Slab_City? where RV owners and squatters
from all over the US and Canada spend the winter. We will not stay overnight there.
We plan to arrive at the IBT meeting at the Colorado River Fairgrounds (a 125 mile drive) on January
23 or 24 and stay for the Hobo Rally, leaving Blythe on Sunday, February 3.
Detailed information on IBT and the Hobo Rally is in the Blue Beret wbcci.org and on our web site
airstreamsandiego.com, or we can provide copies of the applications.
If you would like more information please contact Fred Lyon at 619.972.0504 or [email protected].
Sooner rather than later will enable camping reservations to be made for the trip.
We are looking forward to a fun time together.

Message from the Editor
Hello San Diego’Streamer Readers,
Mornings are grey. Our black cat sleeps all day. It’s pumpkin festival in Half Moon Bay. It’s not to salute
the San Francisco Giants that our maple tree is turning orange. Fall is on us, Thanksgiving on the way and
the December Winter Wonderland rally not that far away.
Rally flyers are included to allow you to register early. There are still hosting opportunities on the 2013 rally
schedule and great locations to revisit or discover.
If you attended the Region rally in Bakersfield, please let us know how things went and send your pictures.
Happy Halloween
