7.5 m wide extrusion line
for the production of
geomembrane sheet goes
to northern Africa
KUHNE Group – Smart Sheets – announces the new order of an almost 8 m wide
extrusion line for Algeria. The machine
with a total output of more than one ton
per hour can run HD-, LD- and MDPE
sheets in a thickness range between
0,75 and 2 mm. The maximal net width
of the usually black coloured films will be
7 meter.
The almost 70 tons heavy roll stack offers the possibility to change the middle
roll by implementing a structure roll for

the production of embossed sheets. The
line will be mechanical and electrically
prepared for later coextrusion as well as
for unwinding a geotextile sheet.
The Algerian customer intends to partially
use the final product himself and sell the
other half within Northern Africa. Currently, most of the geomembrane films are
being imported from Southern Europe;
the KUHNE line will be the first of its
kind regarding output and width in Africa.
Delivery is scheduled for summer 2013.

KUHNE supplies another 9-layer blown-film line
In December 2012, KUHNE supplies yet
another 9-layer line; this time a “standard” blown film line C9 Green line 2400.
After already having shown 7, 9 and 11
layer lines during out the year in the field
of water quench and triple bubble technology, KUHNE comes full circle in the
field of standard, mono-bubble blown
film.
The machine is equipped with 7 x 6030D and 2 x 70-30D extruders and a
blown film head with 600 mm diameter
for a layflat width of up to 2400 mm. The
line will produce barrier and high-barrier
films from 20 up to 250 µm and has been
laid out very flexible. All raw materials
such as LDPE, LLDPE, mLLDPE, EVA
etc can be used; but also EVOH, PA,
COC and PET.
The layout design of the blown film head
is based on the 11 layer head that was
introduced at the occasion of the K show
in Düsseldorf 2010. It is a combination
between classical mandrel distributor
and coathanger-distributor. The 600 mm
head is also available as 11 layer head.
The output of the line will be around 500
and 700 kg/h; the barrier layers and adhesive / tie layers around between 1 and
2 µm as singular layer thicknesses.
The machine is also equipped with the
necessary heating and cooling aggregates for PA and PET films. The calibration basket has a suction device for
monomers and the rollers are made with
CFK. The thickness measurement and
control system is radiometric and installed before the layflat and the profile
is regulated with the air volume in the
high capacity cooling ring. The turner
bars are microporous and cooling roller
pairs are non sticking in order to also
run very sticky and / or adhesive films.
The haul off also has temperature control units in order to be able to heat or
cool additionally. Before bringing the film
to the winders, it can be pre-treated on
two or even four sides. The winder 507
RL can wind in central, contact or gap
mode – in both directions. Both winders
are equipped with oscillating knives and
specially designed pressure control.
KUHNE Group supplies HDPE Coex-Line
with huge layflat
KUHNE once again supplied a 3-layer
blown-film line with a bubble circumference of up to 6000 mm within Europe. The minimum circumference will
be 4000 mm.
The line will be processing HDPE films
with a thickness range from 9 up to 40 µm
with a double layflat of up to 3 m and with
a capacity of almost 500 kg/h. The machine is equipped with a 420 mm die, the
size of the extruders is 60-90-60. The
line speed will reach 220 m/min.

KUHNE Group continues its successful
INLINE HIGH SPEED conception
The compact construction – consisting
of only four main parts – and the electrical components being “on board” convince meanwhile many customers in
Germany, Europe and abroad. The drive
concept of the High-Speed extruder consists of Torque synchronous drives, that
not only require less parts and therefore
less maintenance; but also economizing
energy compared to the AC technology by using permanent magnets. Tools
such as feedblocks and dies come from
KUHNE’S own production and knowhow. The rollstack and the hauloff are
both entirely electric.
The erection at the customer’s site could
be reduced to only 3 working days – following the principle “Plug & Produce”.
Still there are different assemblies possible, that consider well the specific situation of our customers on location:
• “classical”; meaning all pieces in a
row (total installation length <6 m with
a K60EE-33D and a total production
capacity of up to 450 kg/h
• Main extruder turned 90° to the left
side (because of the thermoformer)
• Main extruder on a platform on top of
the rest of the line – integrated with
the roll stack
All these different types of installations
have already been supplied and successfully integrated into the individual
conception of our customers plants and
production halls.
Successful acceptance test and production
run of sheet line at KUHNE headquarter
During three weeks this summer, the acceptance test of a 2400 mm wide sheet
line took place in KUHNE Headquarters
in Sankt Augustin, Germany. Therefore,
the Turkish customer arrived with his
production staff in order to assist the
KUHNE R&D team during the production of up to 30 mm thick sheets out of
HDPE and PP.
In total, more than 100 tons of raw material were consumed. Besides, the sophisticated logistic tasks of this project
Page 3
have also been carried out successfully
– such as the handling of the production
waste and regrind. In addition to the production itself, carried out in 3 shifts and
during the weekends also, the customer’s
operational staff was trained in all relevant details directly at and with the line.
After the official acceptance run, a common day in a close leisure park rounded
up the good collaboration. Meanwhile,
the line has safely arrived in Turkey and
is currently erected in Istanbul.
