May 2013 Vol. 2, No. 1 1 Lin-Wood Alumni News Published annually in May * Electronic Edition * www.LinWoodAlumni.com 2014 Reunion News U.S. NEWS Ranks LIN-WOOD #1 in New Hampshire A “Reunion Like No Other” is how a few Advisory Committee members have described what should be a great reunion next August 1-3, 2014. Scheduled together with the Town of Lincoln’s week long 250th anniversary celebration, it promises to be a wonderful experience for all alumni and families. Lin-Wood High School took top honors for New Hampshire in the annual US News ranking of schools nationally. The week-end begins with a golf tournament on Friday morning, August 1, followed by a lobster bake in the afternoon and a block party that evening, in concert with the Town’s celebration (with Church Street blocked off for both events). Also planned: a “Young Alumni Reception” for alumni graduating from 2000-2014. The school was rated tops among the state’s 88 high schools, with a college readiness index of 38.3, with math and reading proficiencies at 2.3 and 3.4. A pancake breakfast at the high school Saturday morning will be followed by the General Business Meeting. Alumni are encouraged to attend. The Board reports on the last 4+ years, and you get to elect new officers. According to U.S. News, 43 percent of the school’s seniors take advanced placement courses. Immediately following will be tours of the school, a coffee break and finally a choice of one of three short, interesting presentations, by experts in their respective fields. All are free. Saturday afternoon is purposefully left open for alumni to enjoy the sites, with discount tickets available at various attractions. A Vigil mass at 4 PM at St. Joseph church will honor, among others, deceased Lin-Wood alumni. The Gala Banquet will take place at the Beacon on Saturday evening, complete with a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. During the evening, a special Recognition Program will celebrate three iconic graduating years: 2004 (10 yrs.), 1989, (25 yrs.) and 1964 (50 yrs.). You won’t want to miss this reunion, as it will be like no other. Expect to see more on the Alumni website, www.linwoodalumni.com as time moves along. The Alumni Association is justifiably proud of this accomplishment, earned through the efforts of Robert Nelson, Principal, and his outstanding group of teachers and staff. May 2013 Vol. 2, No. 1 MEMBERSHIP NEWS The membership committee continues to update the Lin-Wood Alumni Association membership list. We have no information for 500 of our alumni. Thank you, Pauline and Sherry 2 Lin-Wood High Annual Ice Cream Social Sponsored by Alumni Association What the 2013 senior class lacks in sheer numbers it more than made up for in enthusiasm at the annual Senior’s Ice Cream Social, held May 17th at the school. The timing of the party was perfect, as it was held just before the class left on a class trip. Principal Bob Nelson introduced Norm Bossie, President of the Alumni Association, who led a spirited group to the event: Town selectman Tammy Ham, her daughter and Lin-Wood Alumni Kayliegh Ham, and Heather Holt, from the Community Center, along with Dave Bradley, alumni Treasurer, Deanna Huot, Director, and Pauline Harrington, Advisory Committee member and person most instrumental in the ice cream socials to date. The brief talk included thoughts by Norm relating to the encouragement of young alumni toward greater interest in their Alumni Association and brief comments by other members, as well. Once again, the ice cream for this event was donated by Myles Moran, proprietor, Coneheads Ice cream and Utterly Delicious Ice Cream. Many have come down this path over the last four years: a few posthumously, but none-the – less honored by presentation of a Hall of Fame plaque, and with their names inscribed on a metal plate, in commemoration , and displayed in an ornamental frame at Lin-Wood High School. I didn’t!!! Did You??? Perhaps now everyone will; or at least the members of the Lin-Wood Alumni Association. Since May30, 1988, Lincoln-Woodstock High School students from 1933-1988, have been nominated and inducted into the Lin-Wood Athletic Hall of Fame. What an honor! Remember when- in the excitement and fever of the sport, athletes in school were happy and proud of their accomplishments. Win or Lose! They just loved to play the game, with some excelling in team performance. On June 3, 2011, my two younger brothers, Richard Thibeault, Class of 1957, and Donald Gary Thibeault, Class of 1964, were nominated and inducted, along with many others, which is how I learned of and attended this event. Intrigued with the idea of walking hand in hand with the mission of the Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as boosting activities of the 2014 Alumni Reunion, I’d like to encourage you to: Consider submitting nominees for the Hall of Fame: Check out the Hall of Fame exhibit at Lin-Wood High during the Reunion. Provide a name and address to help us reach classmates, maybe thru family, or friends in order to share celebration plans for the 2014 Reunion. Imagine then- the added feeling of dignity and pride, when 50, 60, 70 years later, these athletes are again recognized for doing what they loved to do, and are inducted into their schools Athletic The Association needs your interest and support.
