About The Film
LOG LINE:
Sex, drugs and suicidal tendencies… HAPPY NEW YEAR! This ensemble driven dramedy
revolves around an eccentric New Years Eve Party, where the Party-Goers are oblivious to
the true atmosphere of pain amid the celebration of “life”.
SYNOPSIS:
As off-beat party-goers spontaneously ring in the New Year at a Hollywood Hills home, the
paths of four hapless people intertwine as they do their best to survive the evening and in
the process witness firsthand the meaning of how to save a life.
Work-a-holic, Hopper Jackson (JUSTIN WHALIN: Dungeons & Dragons; Lois &
Clark; Super Capers), would rather seal a business deal than follow the advice of his
“wingman”, Boston (NATHAN BAESEL: Invasion; Behind the Mask: The Rise of
Leslie Vernon) to “close” with the ladies. Circumstances and a full bladder lead Hopper
upstairs to a supposed unoccupied bathroom, where he unexpectedly runs into Kat
(BROOKE ‘MIKEY’ ANDERSON: Lost; Ocean Girl; Estreet;) an edgy young woman,
loopy and suffering from the effects of an unknown substance. Like the frenetic energy of
the party, Kat’s mind spins out of control as she desperately tries to retrace her steps to the
point of her being ruffied. A rapport ensues between the two diverse personalities as they
discover they have more in common than they could have imagined.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the commotion of the party, Carrie (NECTAR ROSE: Serenity;
Bring it On) Kat’s older sister causes a stir as she whoops up the night yelling out, “who
wants to get laid?,” attempting to drink and dance away a painful separation from her cheating
husband. Attracting appreciated interest as well as unwanted attention, Carrie’s vulnerability
puts her in a fateful situation, only to be rescued by Aaron Lott (ANDREW PIÑON:
Diamonds & Guns), the sensitive, unwilling host of the night’s festivities. After spending
most of the “celebration” collecting empty beer bottles and cleaning up after his
condescending fiancée, Amber-Elizabeth (JENNY MOLLEN: Angel; National
Lampoon’s: Cattle Call; My Best Friend’s Girl), a face from Aaron’s past shows up
unannounced. The stunningly adorable Maia Morena (ANDREA DE OLIVEIRA: Tropic
Thunder; Loveless in Los Angeles) causes Aaron to realize that his soul mate may not be
the one he is about to marry.
As the clock counts down to the New Year, the empty resolutions are eclipsed by hopeful
revelations inspired by the unforeseen connections of strangers made throughout the night.
By the time midnight passes, each individual will find their lives changed forever, leaving
them with an abundance of introspective thoughts and feelings that will carry them through
the rest of their lives; perhaps preventing them from falling… off the ledge.
Ultimately this is an edgy, amusing, exploration of life, resolutions and new beginnings with
a wry twist of fate.

Note from the Director
The overall theme in OFF THE LEDGE is old pain and new beginnings, set to the backdrop of an
eccentric New Year’s Eve Party. The film intersects the lives of individual partygoers as they do their
best to survive one insignificant New Year’s Eve; and in the process, surprisingly affecting each
others’ lives.
Too often in this current climate, we as individuals consider our own problems and misfortunes as the
end of the world; we sometimes forget that it’s all relative and “the grass always seems greener.”
Consequently, in asking ourselves “why me?” and complaining about our own “hard luck,” we tend to
disregard our fellow humankind, thus losing pieces of ourselves, our humanity, and our compassion.
The goal of OFF THE LEDGE was not to preach, but to stir, to engross the audience, to provoke
conversation, to hook them into the party scene right from the start and take the filmgoers on an
unexpected journey through the disheartened lives of the people at the New Year’s festivity.
Each character has their own strength and weakness that should evoke sympathy as well as disturb the
viewer, therefore creating a genuine, yet ambiguous reality; where not all good deeds result in a happy
ending, and not all “imperfectly judged” people have a bad heart; it all comes down to circumstance,
and a stranger can have just as strong an effect on another’s life as their own family and friends. The
film deals with hidden pain, and the underestimated healing power of kindness.
The intention with the film’s edgy content was to reach a wide, international audience with a fresh,
controversial take on the party scene. As this story and its premise are dramatic and thought
provoking, and therefore possibly considered more “art house” than commercial, the plan was to
blend the visual appearance with realism and more of a commercial presentation via the use of
technical elements such as the use of the HD video; crisp, handheld photography, sharp editing and a
mix of indie music. These elements were essential in upholding the unique presentation of the film;
combining “Art House” with “Commerciality”.
To us, OFF THE LEDGE is the epitome of an “independent film”, and we were challenged nonstop along the way, working with an ultra-low budget, limited time (10 day principal photography),
and an intimate crew. We’re all exceptionally proud of the result, and more than anything the
experience and knowledge we gained in pulling off the challenge.
Our project is a gleaming sample of the recent HD Video format; shooting on the Thomson HD
Viper Filmstream Camera, rated at the time of production as one of the top rated HD cameras,
used in such Studio feature films as “Zodiac”, “Miami Vice” and “Collateral.” Combined with
controversial and provocative material and using mostly hand held shots, my hope was to maintain the
gritty realism and humanity of the characters in this frenetic, intriguing world, as well as take the
audience on a voyeuristic ride, making the filmgoer feel like a guest of the party.
The unexpected ending begins as one of a nice little “wrap up”; but life isn’t always like that. Life can
catch us off guard, and literally be a “punch in the face”; which should ultimately leave the audience
with an abundance of introspective thoughts and feelings as the characters witness firsthand the
meaning of “how to save a life”; and in one night, change their outlook on life forever.

Note from the Director cont…
Antoine Artue believed that we are all connected on a subconscious level… anything that happens
to someone in the chain of life will impact someone else. A simple act of genuine care or a
misguided eruption of circumstance can turn someone’s life around, and perhaps prevent someone
falling off the ledge.
This film was meant to be reflective, naturalistic, and unending… just like life.

The Characters
HoPper JackSon
Hopper (JUSTIN WHALIN) is an intensely driven, work-a-holic.
Circumstances lead him upstairs to a supposed unoccupied bathroom, where
he unexpectedly runs into KAT, an edgy young woman, loopy and suffering
from the effects of an unknown substance. A rapport ensues between the two
diverse personalities, and Kat brings Hopper to a pain driven emotional
breakdown in order for him to realize the true meaning of his life.
cArRIe CLiFtON
Carrie (NECTAR ROSE) is initially introduced with a sultry and
seductive façade, with comedic moments throughout the night,
ultimately Carrie shows a great deal of emotional range; with an
attempted rape scene, an emotional breakdown, and a ‘hand clapping’,
‘twist of fates’ ending when she gets the one up on the person that broke
her down. Arriving at the party announcing, “who wants to get laid!”
Carrie attempts to drink and dance away the painful news that her
husband has cheated on her for the 3rd time. Her vulnerability
eventually puts her in numerous fateful situations, which eventually leads
her to reevaluate her life, and appreciate her true liberation.
Kat clIfTon
Kat (BROOKE ‘MIKEY’ ANDERSON) is an edgy young woman, loopy and
suffering from the effects of an unknown substance. Like the frenetic energy of
the party, Kat’s mind spins out of control as she desperately tries to retrace her
steps of the party to the point of being ruffied. Not wanting to disappoint her
sister Carrie, Kat hides out in the upstairs bathroom where she runs into Hopper.
A rapport ensues between the diverse personalities as they discover they have
more in common than they could have imagined.
AarOn lOtT
Aaron (ANDREW PIÑON) is the sensitive, unwilling host of the night’s festivities.
After spending most of the “celebration” collecting empty beer bottles and cleaning
up after his condescending fiancée Amber-Elizabeth, a face from Aaron’s past shows
up unannounced. The stunningly adorable Maia Morena eventually causes Aaron to
realize that his soul mate may not be the one he is about to marry. Who will be the
one he wants to spend the rest of his life with?
The Characters cont…
BoSToN
Boston (NATHAN BAESEL) is initially a fun, total ‘ladiez man’ and player,
always setting up his buddies for a hook-up. He pretty much runs this party,
making sure everyone’s having a good time, whether that means boozing
them up, or adding a little happy pill to the fire, he’s determined to put this
New Years bash on the map. However, soon we realize there’s more to Boz
than meets the eye, as his anguish eventually reveals his shadows.
AMBer-ELIzABETh cHaSE
Amber-Elizabeth (JENNY MOLLEN) is a prim,
proper, ex-sorority type and self-appointed host of the New Years party.
Amber has hi-jacked her fiancé Aaron’s home and treats him like her
personal tote bag for the duration of the evening. At first toothache sweet
with an undercurrent of condescension, Amber manages to continuously
flirt with other men while keeping Aaron in tow. We soon recognize the
façade is a result of her own hidden pain.
MAIa MorENa
Maia (ANDREA DE OLIVEIRA) stunning and adorable, shows up at the party
unannounced and causes the introverted Aaron to realize that his soul mate may
not be the one he is about to marry. She's full of quirky retorts, is always smiling
and is the true light of Aaron's life. But is she who we all think she is? And will
Aaron choose her or Amber to spend the rest of his life with?
RicHard ‘Dick’ BucHMaN
Richard '(RAYMOND O’CONNOR) is one of the more mature
occupants of the party. Suffering from a mid life crisis, Dick ventures out with his
younger counterparts, his goal for the evening is to pick up some 'hot young thing’,
perhaps that will help him help him catch up to his co-workers that have overtaken
him. Trying so hard to fit in, his surroundings remind him off his youthful days;
but presently, he’s a little out of his league. Forever dedicated to his job and his
wife, he has reached a frustrating crossroads in his life; in the end he is tempted by
fate and has to decide which road to take.
Paulie
Paulie (YAN FELDMAN) is a tough New Yorker in a suit
and tie. Arriving at the party late from “business” which is
evident from the white residue residing on the side of his nose, he’s quirky and
fun with a mouth that has the saving grace of a mischievous smile. He
unknowingly becomes Richard's savior at the party. Relaxed and just ready to
have some fun with his co-workers, he’s more about helping them than looking
out for himself, until he gets a pleasant surprise of his own.

BOnNIe & VeRa
These two lifelong best friends have crashed the New Year’s party and
they are damn well gonna have a good time. Despite their age
advantage over many of the Party goers, the spicy gals are all about
the attitude. Their “ploy” is to hit the bar, grab the booze and head
for the patio to gossip.
Bonnie (ANNE RAMSAY) is a tough Californian. Just wrapping up
her third divorce, Bonnie is the optimist of the duo, always there for
her best buddy.
Vera (MARIA CINA) is a tough New Yorker. Divorced twice with
five kids, Vera is a spicy soul with a lot of heartache under her façade.
ToNY
Tony (JOSEPH PORTER) is a sweetie, but way too introverted. After being
given a “Happy Pill” from a fellow Party-Goer attempting to give him some
guts; it backfires, taking him deeper into his fascination bordering on obsession
with Cameron.
DebBiE & JaMie
Jamie (ZOSIA MAMET) is a cute, introverted intellectual who feels
misplaced at the party until her best friend Debbie loosens her up in
order to find the possible love of her life.
Debbie (CARLEE AVERS) is a carefree spirit and complete opposite
to her best friend Jamie who she drags into the 'pot' room to free up
her inhibitions with the Hippie’s.
FUcK OFf CHicK
Fuck Off Chick (FAY WOLF) is a hot, leather clad, biker chick who spends
the duration of the party lounging on a couch in her own little world while
numerous guys attempt to ask her out, only to be shot down one… after the
other… after the other…
The Characters cont…
CAMeRoN
Cameron (JENNY GUY) Is every guys “stereo-typical” dream girl. A
blonde, waif with alluring eyes, perfect physic, and a gorgeous smile;
always surrounded by men. She’s just one of those girls you want to get to
know.
PhoTO Chick
Photo Chick (ANGELA OH) is retro all that way, and has decided to bring
Polaroid back into action. She takes snapshots of everyone at the party with
her Polaroid Camera and decides to decorate the Christmas Tree in a hip
new way with the resulting snapshots.
But T GuY
Butt Guy (CRAIG SPIVEK) – speaks for itself doesn’t it? How he got invited
to the party… no-one will never know. He is his own party. A great source of
amusement to himself, he floats through the bash betting people he can fit all
sorts of odd shaped objects up his rear. Butt guy… just is.
DaVid
David (JAMES FERRIS) is Carrie’s husband. He's gorgeous and knows it!
Running into Carrie after the party, he initially erupts in anger before developing
into a condescending prick. David begins to seduce Carrie with his award winning
smile and charms believing he's got Carrie hooked again... But David isn’t the
only one who can play games, and Carrie’s got a New Years Eve surprise for him
of her own.
Janice
Janice (BREE SHARP) is a grungy, pot smokin’ modern day
hippy proclaiming rhetorical questions on life and politics while
she strums music on her Guitar. She believes she’s got it all
worked out and is good at convincing the others.
The Characters cont…
Bob
Bob (ALEX PETROVITCH) is completely enamored with Janice, and
Prudance, and Greer, and pot… would do all their bidding. A very happy go
lucky kinda guy.
PrudeNcE
Prudence (JULIA CARPENTER), although mousy and hesitant, she’s the
only one willing to question Janice’s proclamations on life and politics.
GreER
Greer (JAMILA COOKSEY) is the final member of the “Hippy” crew. An intent
listener with a keen sense of repetitive syndrome, she hangs on every word. She
finds life funny and just digs it man.
