This celebration of German heritage will, no doubt, bring together those of German ancestry, as well as people wishing to learn and experience the best of German culture. The German Canadian congress is to be congratulated for its work to preserve this culture and the German language for our citizens today. Kitchener, formerly Berlin, was founded by German settlers and over the years has enjoyed the cultural influences these earliest residents shared. Thanks to these founding citizens, our community has become increasingly culturally diverse. Their legacy of acceptance and their spirit of innovation will continue for generations to follow.
