Box 260316 Plano, TX 75026-0316 3 Pate Swap Meet For the third year in a row Legends club sponsored a booth at the Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway. It has become wellknown among our Legends members for being a great place to stop, rest, have lunch and a cold one during a day of “junking”. Plus a few people have cleared their garages of excess parts. We set up the booth on Wednesday, April 27. Bill Preston planned and prepared lunch and dinner Thursday and Saturday. The threat of rain on Friday kept most of us home, but I understand that a couple of hardy souls went out to sell some prized Corvette parts. Thanks to Dan Jacobs, Jerry Echols, Tom Entrekin, Gary Williams, Mark Elliott, Tom Douglas, Sam Deneault, Jack Stewart and Kevin Shedden for coming out to work the booth. JC Cherry, Bob Rockett and Joe and Kathryn Maulsby stopped by too. We seem to have sold most of our extra stuff, so Legends is not going to sponsor a booth next year. Perhaps we’ll do it again in a couple of years. Bill Preston busy in the cook tent with plenty of “eaters” moving in for the kill. 4 Sam Deneault (seated) agressively selling stuff to an interested shopper. Kevin Shedden and Tom Douglas waiting for customers... or lunch. 2016 Lone Star Corvette Classic Don Sebert’s Black/Silver 1956 in the Lone Star Member section of the show Bill Preston’s Black/White 57 on display as the 2015 Non-Member Best of Show Bruce Jarrett’s Blue/White 1961 displayed in the LSCC generations exhibit Jerry Echols with his 66 Maroon survivor in the Non-Member Show & Shine 5 May Meeting Erika & JC Cherry visit with Tom Douglas after the meeting Ellen & Jerry Fernandez COVER PHOTO by George Skidmore A photo that shows what Legends Club represents: Embracing and welcoming the current generation of Corvettes while cherishing and appreciating the origins and all developments through the years. Using Danbury as our first tour base, some of the tour options being considered include: -West Point tour and museum -Train trip into NYC -FDR National Historic Site in Hyde Park, NY -Culinary Institute of America (CIA) for dinner -Old Rhinebeck Aerodome for an air show and museum tour -Lime Rock Park where the Ferrari Challenge is scheduled that weekend When the group got together for a planning meeting several weeks ago they discussed trip/tour options and the scheduling flexibility which may result in more than one tour group on any given day. Leaving Danbury the group will head up the coast to the Mystic Seaport & Village. Take shirt to Embroidery King for Legends Logo & your name Tom 1. Order shirt with your Corvette on it from Galli Shirts by Jack “Rude Dog” Hays I attended the AER Spring Classic car show on May 7 at Sam Pack’s museum in Carrollton. This year they placed all Corvettes in one class. At the end of the awards ceremony they awarded three class trophies to Danny Barboza from Denton and Gordon Moore, both with sweet 61’s and my 1965 Glen Green Coupe, known to you as “Vetzilla”. At the end they gave out top awards to the 16 cars that received the most votes regardless of class. I was shocked, that out of about 250 cars, Vettzilla was awarded a Top 16 award! Thanks to all the Legends members who helped me restore my trusted ‘65. We have made this decision with careful consideration for the attendants, the board, and the cause alike. Our decision behind this was based on several reasons, one of them being board members expressing to us they would not be able to commit to the foundation due to health reasons or upcoming obligations. In 14 years since Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show began, we have donated to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth and UNT Health Science over $440,000. This money helped in many ways for treatment and research for prostate cancer. Dr. Lacko, of UNT Health Science, has been able to employ an extra person and just recently received two patents on treatment for prostate cancer due to our donations. Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show has tested over 20,000 men and made over 1,300 of them aware of potential issues and were sent for follow up tests. This was a hard decision to be made. We are pleased with the success and accomplishments of the foundation, the board members and what were able to provide to the community. Thank you for your support throughout the years. Sincerely, Chris Goetz Founder of Cowtown Cruisin’ for a Cure Birthdays for June 06-01 Earl Browning 06-01 Vicki Linberg 06-08 Mark Fricke 06-11 Bryan Liptoi 06-11 Wanda Patterson 06-13 Esther Towles 06-13 Jim Harper 06-17 Roy Evanczyk 06-19 Pat Cople 06-22 Janice Smith 10 06-23 Rocky Rainbolt 06-23 Tom Entrekin 06-24 Kevin Shedden 06-24 Barb Macdonald 06-26 Diane O’Brien 06-26 Philip Schilt 06-26 Linda Boren 06-27 Roger Berry 06-28 Chris Feger Downtown Fort Worth Car Show May 24, 2016 As you may be aware, a decision was recently made by the founder of the Cowtown Cruisin for a Cure foundation to dissolve the foundation. It was a good organization dedicated to a very good cause and did some very positive things during its existence. I am proud of my past association with it. With that being said, several of the past board members, including myself, feel that there is still a lot more to be done and clearly want to continue putting on the Downtown Fort Worth Car Show. Therefore we are in the process of establishing a new 501c3 non-profit foundation “Wheels for Wellness” and are pleased to inform you that the car show will once again take place. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2016. We are in the process of developing new flyers, forms, website, etc. and anticipate having the online registration available by the first of June. Our goal is to make things bigger and better. We are excited about the future. Any assistance in getting the word out to the local Car community is appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.
