R E PE RTOI R E w w w. s r s . at SPONSORING MORNING E XERCISE Support the Lipizzaners! Daily training for the “High School of Classical Horsemanship” Are you looking for a special gift? We are looking for sponsors for our Lipizzaners! The Morning Exercise offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners by their riders. Watch and experience our young stallions with their grey coats and our “white stars”, the fully trained School Stallions. During the Morning Exercise the riders and their horses do simple relaxing exercises and exercises aimed at refining and perfecting a certain movement. It’s hard to believe, but the world famous Lipizzaners are listed as an endangered domestic breed – worldwide a total of approx. 5.000 animals exist today. Help us preserve Europe’s oldest horse breed for future generations! With our sponsorship scheme private individuals and business enterprises can support our Lipizzaners in a very personal way. Or are you stuck for a unique gift? Whether it’s a foal, a mare or a celebrated School Stallion – your sponsorship entitles you to a very special relationship with your chosen protégé. For a whole year, accompany “your” Lipizzaner in the “nursery” on the mountain pastures, in the historical stables in Vienna or even during a performance in the Winter Riding School: we will be more than happy to help you choose your favourite horse. Depending on their respective daily exercise programme, the stallions are individually saddled and bridled. Identify the background of the riders’ work through careful observation: the horse learns to understand and follow the aids given by his rider in order to accomplish a certain lesson. Through the specific strengthening and building up of the muscles, the horses’ natural movements are developed into the perfect figures of the “High School”. As the famous classical school jumps are not practised on a daily basis, they can only be seen occasionally during the Morning Exercise. Immediately after dismounting, the riders give their charges their deserved reward: a titbit from the pocket of the rider’s tailcoat. PERFORMANCES GUIDED TOURS Experience the High School of Classical Horsemanship Take a look behind the scenes of the Spanish Riding School Witness the result of years of training in more than 70 classical performances in the dignified setting of the baroque Winter Riding School – from the young, boisterous stallion who has only just started his training to the fully trained School Stallion, who enchants the audience with his performance in the School Quadrille, in the Schools on and above the Ground and on the Long Rein. The Lipizzaners are Europe’s oldest horse breed. These intelligent and lively horses originating from Spanish, Italian and oriental bloodlines, with their classic physique and powerful grace, are ideally suited for the representative style of the High School of Classical Horsemanship. A majority of theses performances are presented live in German and English. Every year the Spanish Riding School goes on tour all over the world. During these periods the presentations in Vienna include guest performances by the Federal Stud Piber, home to the famous Lipizzaners, where experienced drivers demonstrate their skills in horse-drawn historical carriages. Each individual part of these programmes is also explained in German and English. An exclusive tour of the Spanish Riding School takes you to the various locations which account for the special charm of this establishment: The Winter Riding School, a gem of baroque architecture; the Summer Riding School with the world’s largest oval horse walker; the Stallburg, Vienna’s most significant Renaissance building where the Lipizzaner stallions are stabled. Guests can be ushered directly from the Reception Rooms to the Winter Riding School – just as in imperial times – to enjoy a performance of the “White Ballet”. Since autumn 2008 the historical Stallburg can also be booked for exclusive events. Vienna’s oldest, to this day intact Renaissance courtyard which dates back to the 16th century has been equipped with a mobile roof construction making it available for special occasions throughout the year. Where else in the world do Lipizzaner stallions watch festivities and events from their boxes? All three rooms offer a spectacular view of the Michaelerplatz, one of Vienna’s most beautiful city squares. The incomparable charm of this location makes every event into a very special experience. The baroque Winter Riding School Reception Room “Imperial Horses” 57 m2 Reception Room “Imperial Studs” 43 m2 Reception Room “Winter Riding School” 34 m2 Emperor Charles VI commissioned Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach to build this gem of baroque architecture which was completed in 1735 and which is without doubt the world’s most beautiful riding hall. The beauty of the Spanish Riding School as a venue lies in its ability to be the perfect answer for events of all sizes – from the smallest gathering to a grand occasion. LIPIZZANER STUD FARM PIBER MEETS VIENNA Home of the Lipizzaners Lipizzaner Stud Piber pays a visit to Vienna Since 1920 the stud has been the home of the famous Lipizzaners. It is located in the West Styrian village of Piber – approx. 230 km south of Vienna. Here breeding expertise of more than 430 years is maintained in order to preserve this special type of horse for which the Spanish Riding School is world famous. All over the world, the Spanish Riding School and its Lipizzaner stallions are famous and loved – but not everyone is familiar with where the horses come from and what actually happens before the young stallions come to Vienna for their training. With our summer programme “Piber meets Vienna” which takes place during the School Stallions’ well-earned summer break we would like to give our guests the opportunity to learn more about what goes on at our stud. The Lipizzaner World Piber offers a wide range of interesting sites: the covered yards with the foals or the adjacent show farrier. The adventure path provides children with exciting diversions and offers wonderful walks around the stud. Equipped with a hobby horse these excursions turn into magnificent rides and if the quiz is answered correctly, there’s even a prize! The reception rooms in the Castle offer a wide range of possibilities for every type of event: weddings, seminars, exhibitions, etc. For further information please refer to: www.piber.com From the very beginning, the Lipizzaner was not only predestined for the High School of Classical Horsemanship, the horses were also always bred for their outstanding qualities as carriage horses. This summer programme therefore not only shows young, playful stallions who have hitherto spent their lives in total freedom up in the mountain pastures of Styria and brood mares with their delightful young foals but also various historical carriages and traditional uniforms. HELDENBERG Lipizzaner Summer Quarters and Training Centre Since the summer of 2005 the Lipizzaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School spend their summer break in Lower Austria in Heldenberg, which is located approx. 70km north of Vienna. In 2010 it will be possible to stable and train the stallions here all year round. To date the state-of-the-art stables were only used for a couple of weeks during July and August when the stallions enjoy their well-earned summer break. In spring 2010 this facility will include a new riding hall which will offer room for 300 spectators.
