rolling hills of Western Styria.

(ticket office closes at 16:00 hrs)
No stable visits from 12:00 – 13:00 hrs (feeding time)
Surrounded by lush meadows and green forests, the
home of Europe’s oldest cultural horse breed is set in
gorgeous scenery.

Groups of 20+ must be booked in advance and can be

Lipizzaner foal
With the adoption of a Lipizzaner foal you can actively
contribute towards preserving Europe’s oldest cultural horse
breed and support Austria’s cultural heritage.
All proceeds from the annual fee are dedicated to the
upkeep of a specific foal. Whether you decide to accompany
a filly or a colt on part of its life journey – it’s entirely up to
you.

Since 1920 Lipizzaner stallions have been bred at the
stud farm in Piber for the Spanish Riding School
Vienna. Every year the best young stallions of an age
group go to Vienna where, after many years of training,
they delight horse lovers from all over the world with
their skilful performances in the High School of Classical
Horsemanship.

Welcome to the World of Lipizzaners
With an annual subscription of EUR 50,- horse lovers can
help us maintain the high breeding standards in Piber and at
the same time enjoy several benefits.
Whatever your decision: a club membership, a corporate or
private sponsorship, we will be happy to help you decide
which is the best option for you.
Different stations provide abundant information on
horses and their environment. Pick up your Horse Pass
at the Shop, borrow a Hobby Horse and off you go on
your adventure trip through the stud. At each station a
question should be answered correctly and filled into your
Horse Pass.

STALLION STABLE

Only the very best stallions from the Spanish
Riding School in Vienna are selected and
brought to Piber during the breeding season to
provide for offspring. And when the time comes
for them to retire, the stallions spend their oldage back at their birthplace in Piber.

MUSEUM
The special bond between man and
horse is impressively illustrated with
pictures, exhibits and films.
The restaurant „Caballero“ is located directly in
the castle and offers typical regional delicacies
in a unique setting.

Cut daring corners and navigate
difficult driving manoeuvres all without a
scratch! Drive a carriage and pair through
the virtual landscape with the help of the
computer animated carriage simulator. Have
a go at saddling and grooming a horse.
The practical zone offers an abundance of
information on horses and their care.

COVERED YARD
The broodmares and their foals are the
centrepiece of the Lipizzaner Stud. Stud
employees give interesting information
on the upkeep and breeding of
Lipizzaners.
BLACKSMITH / FARRIER
Watch the farrier at work and learn interesting
details on hoof care.
CASTLE
The baroque castle with its impressive
courtyard was built in the years 1696 to
1716 in the style of the Italian architect
Domenico Sciassia. It houses the stud’s
administration offices, reception rooms
for seminars and special events and
the Restaurant Caballero in the vaulted
cellars.

PLAYGROUND
The playground offers children plenty of fun
out in the fresh air. Located directly next to the
Café, parents can relax and watch their children
play.

Individual stops along the way provide entertaining
information ranging from the history of horse breeding
to personal attempts at grooming in the practical area
to demonstrations by the farrier.

PADDOCK
CARRIAGE HOUSE

Interesting collection of historical uniforms,
carriages and sleighs on display, including rarities
such as Crown Prince Rudolf’s hunting gig or
Emperor Franz Joseph’s vis-à-vis carriage.
The paddock gives visitors the opportunity
to see the Lipizzaners up close. Feel for
yourself how soft and silky their muzzles
are!
RIDING HALL
Watch the riding and driving divisions during
their training (please refer to the schedule for
times).

Take a break on the sunny terrace.

HORSE POOL
Riding or driving the horses through the
pool is not only ideal for cooling off the
horses’ legs but is an integral part of
their training.
The recreational area around the pool is
ideal for picnics whilst children can romp
to their hearts’ content in the floating
tree house.
ARENA
The arena with its covered grandstand has a
capacity of 2.000 seats and offers the ideal
setting for all sorts of outdoor events.
