Picture Yourself in History & Heroes Year-round classic films, art exhibits & live performances at the Arts Council…A revitalizing Main Street with engaged, passionate citizens…A quintessential bookstore…Breathtaking biking & hiking trails…Welcoming tree-lined streets…A thriving farm community Attracted by fertile land and abundant water, settlers flocked to Perry. It was fitting that Revolutionary War soldiers described the region as “Eden”. Farming and industry, such as the famed Perry Knitting Mill, prospered in this land of plenty. Tourists came to Silver Lake, hoping to catch a glimpse of the fabled Sea Serpent or to attend the Pioneer Picnic, held since 1872. Perry is also the boyhood home of Chester A. Arthur, the 21st U.S. president. Now as then, the community mirrors the character and pride shown by its namesake, War of 1812 hero Commodore O.H. Perry.
