New Chemical Branding at K.Walter
COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION
BACKGROUND
K.Walter, a leader in the development and sale of high-quality gravure printing chemicals, has greatly expanded
its array of products in recent years. Now, it has completed the next milestone on its path to becoming a galvanic
competence center by adding its entire chrome portfolio. Due to numerous additions and new developments, it was
now necessary for the company to modernize and adapt its branding to the high quality of its products.
In a several-step process, new names and labels were developed that simplify daily product handling as well as make
the ordering process clearer and above all, easier.
THE NEW NAMES
K O N Z E P T I O N
N A M I N G
The new, universal naming system is based on the English language so that all names are easily understandable by
international customers. A modular and expandable concept makes individual product names self-explanatory and
faster to classify.
How the new naming principle
works:
S T R U K T U R
• The first syllable in the product name, “Helio”, documents K.Walter’s affiliation within the Heliograph Holding.
•The second part of the name designates the material or use of the product, i.e. “PreCopper” for pre-copper plating,
“Copper” for copper plating,
for chroming, “DeChrome” for dechroming, “Clean” and “Select” for

The result is that the previous “Härtezusatz DURO 82B (Hardening Additive DURO 82B)”, for example, is now called
“HelioCopper Classic Concentrate”; the previous “Trennlösung WAG-70 (Separating Solution WAG-70)” is now called
“HelioSelect Silver Concentrate” and the previous “CuMax 10 Dosierlösung (CuMax 10 Dosing Solution)” is now

THE NEW DESIGN
As a result of the new design, the labeling is more modern and functional. It follows a
specific structure – in addition to a logical, consistent design grid, each individual usage
features a different color.
COLOR CODING OF THE LABELS
The new colors:
• All chemicals used for pre-copper or copper plating have copper-colored labels.
• All chemicals used for chroming and de-chroming have chrome-colored labels.
• All chemicals used for degreasing have blue labels.

COPPER PLATING
The new label structure accentuates the product names even more clearly. Below these,
there is a short description of the area the chemicals are used for. The article number
and size of the packaging unit are also easy to recognize. Of course, all required warning
notices meet EU regulations and are highly visible on the labels.

Because it takes some time before new names are learned and
established on the market, K.Walter is doing its utmost to support
customers and partners in dealing with the new names.
At the beginning, for example, all packaging units – in addition to
the new labels – will include stickers that communicate both the
old as well as the new names. A compact update list with all old
and new names will be included with every order. A new product
flyer has been developed for the chemicals area and the K.Walter
website has likewise been updated.
