Albertsons Annual Program To Provide Holiday Meals For Families in Need
The holiday season is rapidly approaching meaning it’s time to spread cheer to those around us with the gift of giving. Not
every family has the privilege of sitting in front of a full dinner table at Thanksgiving. That’s why Albertsons is once again
teaming up with Inland Valley Hope Partners to help support local families in need.
You can get involved in this program and make a difference! Volunteer at a participating Albertsons location to help
distribute donation vouchers to customers as they enter the store. For every $40 in donations collected at the register,
Albertsons will provide a complete holiday dinner to a family Hope Partners serves. Volunteers are primarily needed at the
locations below on Saturdays and Sundays in November from 10 a.m.—1 p.m. and 1—4 p.m.
Albertsons San Dimas (220 E. Bonita Ave, San Dimas 91773)
Albertsons Diamond Bar (1235 S Diamond Bar Blvd, Diamond Bar 91765)
Albertsons Chino Hills (15970 Los Serranos Country Club Dr, Chino Hills 91709)
Pick a single shift or sign up for several throughout the holiday season!
Either way, you’ll help bless local families in need with a delicious
holiday meal. For more information contact Ron Crampton at 909-6223806 x#108 or [email protected].
And if you shop at Albertsons, make your own donation of $1, $5, $10
or more and help make a true difference for a family in need.
Successful First Work Day For Hope Partners Garden at Amy's Farm
On Saturday, October 3, thirty-nine volunteers participated in the first monthly Hope Partners Garden at Amy's Farm work
day. Former volunteers from the Constantine Garden worked alongside student volunteers from Diamond Bar High School
Honor Society and the Claremont Colleges to harvest six beds of green beans, weed a large new vegetable bed area, prune
fruit trees, clean out an apple orchard, and wash down fifty pomegranate trees.
This is the beginning of a new partnership between Inland
Valley Hope Partners and Amy's Farm. The Constantine
Garden contained 25 vegetable beds, whereas at Amy's Farm,
the possibility exists for 60 to 120 beds. Volunteers are
needed to help develop, maintain, and harvest this large new
area. The long-term vision for this new partnership is to
supply fresh vegetables to all of those clients. Please consider
volunteering to help
make this ultimate
vision come true.
Our fabulous volunteers worked hard in
the garden. For more information on
volunteering, contact Ron Crampton.

Who We Are ...
Celebrating over 45 years of commitment, Inland Valley Hope Partners
serves over 80,000 men, women and children each year through “Our
House” family residential shelter; BETA, SOVA, Claremont and San
Dimas food pantries; and the Pomona Farmers’ Market throughout 13
communities including Chino, Chino Hills, Claremont, Diamond Bar, La
Verne, Montclair, Mt. Baldy, Ontario, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga,
San Dimas, Upland, and Walnut. The shelter houses eight families for up
to 90 days. The food pantries distribute five days worth of food per person to no and low income families.
Clients may come once every 30 days. The Farmers Market operates every Saturday morning and accepts WIC
and EBT cards. Begun in 1968 as the Pomona Council of Churches, today the non-profit is a collaboration of
faith communities, businesses, community groups, and individuals who care about their neighbors.
Blessings ……
Happy Holidays from all of us at Inland Valley Hope Partners. We are
so grateful to you for your continued support and friendship that has
sustained our agency and those we serve for yet another year.
We’ve had a few new additions to the Hope Partners family in recent
months, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce them.
Jeff Christensen is the newest member of our Board of Directors. As the
Store Director of the Diamond Bar Albertsons, Jeff has worked with our
agency to host food drives, holiday dinner donations and has even
played in our annual Golf Classic. He’s a native of Southern California
and has been married to his wife Dina for 23 years. He has 3 boys, all of
whom, he’s proud to say, are college graduates. Jeff himself has a
Bachelors degree in Business Management from the University of
Phoenix. Jeff is looking forward to working with our agency in this expanded capacity.
Randy Bekendam also recently joined our Board of Directors. He was
raised in the Chino Valley on a dairy and is a fifth generation farmer. As
a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona, Randy started his career in livestock
raising and had the joy of raising his children on their family farm. Now,
together with his oldest daughter Amy, they manage Amy’s Farm, a real
working farm offering hands-on volunteer opportunities and
educational guided-tours to the public. It is a joy for Randy to share his
passion of farming with all his grandchildren, as well as many other children and adults
who come to visit Amy’s Farm, and he is excited about partnering with Inland Valley Hope
Partners and growing together in future opportunities.
Michael Watson joined our staff this month. He will serve as our parttime driver and will be assisting in the Food Security Program. People
describe Michael as a man after God’s heart because of his passion to
serve, help others and give back to his community. He’s volunteered
with the Water of Life Food Bank and the GAP Food Bank for at least 8
years. Michael is grateful for this opportunity and is excited to learn all
he can in this position to serve others and to make a difference in the

Thank You For A Successful Walk For The Hungry
We would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s 42nd Annual Walk for the Hungry on Sunday, October 11. You
were all troopers, braving the nearly triple digit heat to come out in support of Inland Valley Hope Partners and the hungry
children, women and men we feed through the efforts of our Food Security Program. Thanks to your efforts, we raised
approximately $40,000 to date and collected 2,500 pounds of food. This will go a long way in helping hungry families in the
community. 10% of the funds raised will also be donated to Church World Service to help put an end to hunger around the
world.
We loved seeing so many old friends in the crowd, but we were also pleased to welcome many new faces to this year’s event,
including the teams from Blue Dot Safes, Bank of America and States Logistics Services, among others.
We would be remiss to not thank our wonderful sponsors who helped make this event possible. This year’s sponsors included:

And last, but certainly not least, a huge
thank you to the individual volunteers and
those from Bank of the West, Inland Valley
Recovery Services, Teen Action Committee of Ontario and our Walk Planning Committee for all your hard work.
Congratulations To Our Youth Challenge Winners!
We also have results for the Youth Challenge Group Participants for this year’s Walk for the Hungry. Congratulations, we will

Diamond Bar’s Premiere Youth Group
Helps Inland Valley Hope Partners
DB4Youth’s Stomp Out Hunger committee recently hosted a
Saturday morning food drive and donated all proceeds, some
400 plus food items, to Inland Valley Hope Partners’ food
pantries.
“Food drives encourage our community to respond
compassionately to the needs of others especially the hungry
poor,” stated seventeen year old Garrett Masuda, the
Chairman of DB4Youth and founder of Stomp Out Hunger.
Garrett Matsuda of DB4 Youth donates the
group’s Stomp Out Hunger collections to
Inland Valley Hope Partners’ Food Security
Manager Isaac Vega.
DB4Youth In Action is
comprised of teens
and young adults
committed to making
a change through
community service.
This youth group is
part of the City of
Diamond Bar’s Youth
Master Plan which is
dedicated to
developing youth
leadership through
community activities
and opportunities to
help others.
Junior Girl Scout Troop #2634
Works To Upgrade The Our House
Shelter
The junior girl scout troop #2634 from Our Lady of the
Assumption is currently working with the community to
gather donations in support of their Our House Shelter
beautification project. As part of the project, the troop
members are painting the interior of the shelter, including
the living space, bedrooms and a new mural, creating a kid
corner for the shelter’s children and putting up new
curtains in all the rooms. The hope is that these
improvements will help make the shelter feel a little cozier
and help the shelter clients feel more at home as they work
to rebuild their lives.
Target and Home Depot have been great sponsors of the
group’s efforts, helping troop leader Rosalie Swiatek and
her girls gather all the necessary supplies for this project.
We are truly thankful for all the hard work and
commitment the troop is showing with this project. We
look forward to completing this project with them and
sharing their results when the upgrades are completed.
Visit Us At The Farmers’ Market!
The apple season has finally returned to California so we have
a nice selection of apples and persimmons at Hope Partners’
Pomona Valley Certified Farmers’ Market. Because we have
not had a frost night so far this year, the tomatoes,
cucumbers and salad vegetables are not only in good supply
but the vine ripened taste is really outstanding! The sugar
plum season is late this year because of the heat and drought,
but we should have them in time for your holiday
celebrations. Look for them in the market in mid-December.
Recently the number of seniors visiting the Farmers’ Market
has increased remarkably. Part of this increase is due to the
Market Match program which doubles their spending power
up to $10 each market day when they utilize their SSA, SSI,
SSDI benefits. It is a wonderful service to see our seniors
enjoying the market produce.
Located at the corner of Pearl and Garey Ave., the Pomona
Valley Certified Farmers’ Market is open between the hours of
7:30 and 11:30 a.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. We’d love
to have you join us there!
The Troop takes a break from all their hard work to pose for a
picture on the Our House Shelter playground.
