WYCHMERE HARBOR CLUB
“Having our reception at the Wychmere Harbor Club
was perfect – the club is gorgeous, the staff perfectly
attentive and friendly and the food got rave reviews.
Many people are still talking about it. I wouldn’t
change a thing about my wedding day”

he Wychmere Harbor Club is situated directly on
the water’s edge on one of the most photographed
harbors on Cape Cod. Tucked on an inlet in the historic New
England village of Harwich Port on the south side of the Cape,
the property has enjoyed a long and storied 115-year history.
Today the club is privately owned and is considered one of the
most picturesque and preeminent seaside wedding locales on
the coast of Massachusetts.
“Most couples holding their reception at Wychmere
Harbor have ties to Cape Cod or the ocean,” stated Karen
Rood, wedding coordinator. “They either grew up here, summered on the Cape, have family or friends living here, or just
couldn’t think of not having their wedding by the water.”
The grand setting is the perfect backdrop for elaborate
seaside gatherings. It is Great Gatsby meets old Cape Cod –
relaxed elegance at its finest. Beautiful landscaping envelops
the property. With the stateliness of a sea captain’s home, the
newly renovated club graciously welcomes guests through
its front door into the lovely foyer where a generous freshflower arrangement is always on display.
Off the lobby is a private and smartly appointed hospitality room for the exclusive use of the bride and her wedding
party. It is an unexpected convenience the bride will truly
appreciate throughout the day. Wedding gifts brought to the
reception can also be stowed under lock and key here for
added security.
The club’s Nantucket Room, which accommodates wedding receptions of 125 to 350 guests, is available between
11:00 AM and 11:00 PM. There are gleaming mahogany
handrails, detailed glass etchings, and an expansive hardwood dance floor. Sparkling chandeliers and the romantic,
soft glow of old-fashioned oil lamps showcase the warmth
and ambiance of the room. Stylish floor-length linens, fine,
gold-rimmed china, and exquisite silver and stemware add a
touch of elegance.

But it’s the panoramic views to Wychmere Harbor and
Nantucket Sound through floor-to-ceiling French doors that
demonstrate why this is one of the most sought-after wedding properties on the Cape. While daytime weddings
employ these views to full advantage, evening receptions are
just as dramatic. Lights positioned every 30 feet on the boat
dock plus soffit lights, which have been installed over every
window, create an enchanting evening atmosphere.
The Harbor Watch Room on the second level has sweeping views of Nantucket Sound. It can accommodate up to
100 guests and is available from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM. A
separate sitting room and two working fireplaces add to the
cozy surroundings and the canopied deck provides a breathtaking view of the ocean. From here you’ll see an overlook,
just a ¼ mile away on the main road. A photo taken from
this overlook encompasses a panoramic view of the club and
harbor, and illustrates the stunning beauty of the area.
One particular photo has become a Wychmere Harbor
Club tradition. An overhead shot of the wedding party and
all of the guests on the dock captures the essence of the day
and has become a treasured keepsake with wedding couples,
their families, and friends.
The club is available from mid-April through November
and only one reception takes place per day. Weddings comprise a five-hour time slot on your chosen day. “You don’t
just rent a reception room. The property is all yours for five
hours during the day or evening,” said Rood, who has been
with Wychmere Harbor Club for nine years.
Wedding ceremonies can be performed on several different
sites on the estate. Couples can exchange vows on an impeccably groomed private, white sand beach just steps away

from the water. Or, they can be married along the harbor, on
the plush lawn facing the vivid blue ocean. Festive tents can
also be set up for an outdoor wedding ceremony or cocktail
hour on the brick patio adjacent to the Captain’s Quarters, a
private bar and lounge area. Of course, ceremonies can also
be held in one of several charming locations indoors.
The Captain’s Quarters is an ideal spot for the cocktail
hour. A captivating stained glass window over the bar
depicts a typical Cape scene; the comfortable seating is ideal
for guests who want to relax and converse while gazing out
to sea during cocktail hour. Rounding the corner, a baby
grand piano can be programmed as a player piano or played
by a live pianist.
Given the property’s proximity to water, many couples
choose to arrive to (or depart) their reception by boat. It’s a
fun yet dramatic way to make a lasting impression on your
guests. Said recent Wychmere bride, Melissa Leslie, “We
boarded the sailboat and enjoyed 15 minutes of laughter and
conversation for the first time as husband and wife. The
reaction from our friends and family was unforgettable when
they realized it was us on the boat. We had a blast and often
think about those few special moments on the sailboat
where we were able to reflect on the excitement of the day.”
The Wychmere Harbor Club’s attention to detail sets this
property and its personnel apart from others. A single wedding coordinator sees through all the planning and double
checks every element of the wedding from start to finish until
the last guest walks out the door. Each year, most of the dedicated, seasoned staff return to Wychmere Harbor. During
each function, wait staff members work in teams of two, with
each server assigned to no more than 12 guests. A separate

team attends to the needs of the wedding party exclusively. “Our bridal parties often comment that they can’t
believe our staff made them feel so special,” said Rood.
Executive Chef Chris Kolwicz has
been with the club for over eight years
and oversees every function. Said
General Manager Bruce Pelczarski,
“Our food quality is superior and we
serve the freshest ingredients.”
Elaborate fruit, cheese, and canapé displays are presented first at a typical
reception, followed by butler-passed
hors d’oeuvres. Popular choices include
traditional scallops wrapped in bacon,
crab cakes with lemon tarragon aioli,
smoked salmon with lemon-chive
cream cheese or miniature beef
Wellington. A wide variety of choices
are available for a four-course dinner or
station presentation. The surf and turf
entrée with filet of beef accompanied by
pan-seared scallops is a favorite selection as are a variety of popular seafood
offerings. A world-class, customdesigned wedding cake from Montilio’s
Bakery makes a delicious finish.
Rood and Pelczarski encourage couples to tour Wychmere Harbor as soon
as they start making plans for their big
day. Tours last an average of one hour
and a complimentary food-and-wine
tasting for four is scheduled once the
club has been chosen as the couple’s
reception site. In addition, The
Wychmere Harbor Club enjoys many
partnerships within the wedding-business community and is happy to recommend other service providers and
help with lodging options.
There are many reasons to choose
Wychmere Harbor, but Wychmere
bride Leslie summed it up best: “I grew
up in East Dennis and always dreamed
of having the quintessential Cape Cod
wedding. There were many beautiful
places on the Cape but Wychmere
offered everything my husband, Dan,
and I were looking for.” For more information, contact Karen Rood at
