There are 2 students with a perfect 4.00 GPA. Jin Sil Yun has earned a 4.00 cumu- Ji Ae Angela Choi, the daughter During her four years at Hoquiam High School she participated in Golf for three years, Band for two, and National Honor Society. She also belonged to the Spanish Club, Band Council, Forensics Science Club, Math Club, Foodball, 32 Minute Program, and was a Visions Ambassador in Nicaragua. During her years at HHS, Angela has been active in National Honor Society for three years and served as the Treasurer, Math Club, Spanish Club, and Foodball for two years. She was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and qualified for State in Desktop Publishing. Angela earned a four-year letter award for Marching Band and was selected as the Lions Club Student of the Month for April. lative GPA and is one of our Valedictorians this year. Jin was honored with the Coaches Award in Golf, is a Washington State Scholar and took first place at Grays Harbor Science Fair. Jin was also on the May Court for the Mother’s Day Tea. Priya Nicole McBride is shar- ing top honors this year, graduating with a 4.00 and is one of our Valedictorians. She is the daughter of Tom and Judy McBride. Priya will be attending Pacific Lutheran University in the fall, where she will major in Biology. Her plan is to transfer to Washington State University Medical School to complete her Doctorate degree in Medicine. During her high school career Priya participated in Volleyball, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Foodball, Relay for Life, and volunteered at the Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Priya earned a four-year letter in Marching Band. She was also on the Grizzly Gazette staff. Priya was selected as the Math and Science Student of the Month, Lions Club Student of the Month for November, Most Improved Volleyball player, and was awarded the Spotlight on Excellence Award from our school board. She has won multiple champion and reserve champion titles as an equine exhibitor. of Young Tae and Yong Nam Choi will be graduating with a 3.986 cumulative GPA. Angela will be attending the University of Washington and major in bio-chemistry. Her plan is to be a pharmacist or go into the nursing profession. Franklin Andrew Deets is the son of Patty and Larry Deets and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.916. He will be attending Grays Harbor College in the fall to receive his A.S. degree, then will go on to the University of Washington to get degree in Chemical Engineering. Frank plans to work in the chemical field but he isn’t real sure the direction he will eventually take. During his years at HHS he has been involved in the Jazz Band, and lettered four times in the Marching Band. Other activities he has participated in include; pit band for school musicals, Golf, Baseball, Track and Field, Knowledge Bowl and the Western International Band Clinic. He will be attending Grays Harbor College in the fall, then transfer to Central Washington University to obtain a degree in Paramedicine. His plan is to become a Fireman/ Paramedic. Aaron has been a member of the Marching Band for four years, Vice President of the Executive Board, Sophomore Vice President and two years in Leadership. He was also a cast member in the school drama production of “The Wedding Singer” and played football for four years. Aaron was selected as the Lions Club Student of the Month for March and earned the title of Mr. Fantastic for the Mr. Fantastic Pageant. Tori Amanda Bowen is the daugh- ter of Debbie Ricker and Jim Bowen and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.784. Her plan is to attend Grays Harbor College to take her prerequisites before going on to Bellevue Community College. At Bellevue CC, Tori will study to become an Ultra Sound Technician/X-ray Technician. During her high school career, Tori has participated in Cross Country and Sarah has also been a Rotary Club volunteer, vacation Bible School volunteer, and raised over $7,000 to purchase a brand new cargo trailer for the HHS Marching Band for her senior project. She was selected as the Lions Club Student of the Month for January, and has been a four-year Outstanding Letter Award in Band. Rebecca Marie Meacham is the daughter of Janette and John Bowen and will graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.752. Rebecca plans to attend Grays Harbor College for two years and then transfer to Central Washington University, Her plan is to major in music education and eventually be a high school choir teacher. Rebecca received two varsity letters in Soccer, where she was honored with the Coaches Award and Most Improved Player. She earned three varsity letters in Band and has participated in Tennis and Track. Rebecca has also been active in the National Honor Society, Relay for Live, Foodball and Running Start. She has been in all four of the Drama Departments musicals and was President of the Choir Club for the last two years. Rebecca was the Lions Club Student of the Month for February this year, was awarded the National Choral Award and participated in the All-State Symphonic Choir. Rebecca was also on the Homecoming Court. Taylor Dawn Fogo is the daughter of Kim and Steve Fogo and has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.725. Taylor will be attending Washington State University in the fall. Her plan is to be a dentist or dental hygienist. Making Connections Page Taylor has participated in Soccer for four years, Basketball for two years, boys Soccer Team Manager for four years, Foodball, National Honor Society, President of Honor Society, and Spanish Club. She has volunteered at the Grays Harbor Youth Basketball Camp and the Hoquiam Youth Soccer Camp. During her Soccer career she was the 2011 Team Captain, Defensive MVP, selected for the Team Leadership Award and 2nd team All League. Taylor was also a Prom Court Princess as a junior, and on the May Court for the Mother’s Day Tea. Tania Yanet Mendez is the daugh- ter of Maricela Estrada and has earned a 3.686 cumulative GPA. She will be attending Washington State University in September where she will major in Spanish and minor in Psychology. Her future goal is to become a translator/ interpreter. Tania has participated in Volleyball for four years, Tennis for three years, National Honor Society for four years, Spanish Club and has been a volunteer at Timberland Regional Library. She was selected for the Coaches Award in Volleyball in 2011, attended districts for Tennis her junior year, and Districts for Volleyball her senior year. She served as the Spanish Club Treasurer in both her junior and senior year. Edward Allen Erhart has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.649. He is the son of Carrie and Dave Westby and Roy Erhart. Eddy will be attending Washington State University in the fall where he will be earning a degree in Education with a major in English. Eddy has participated in Cross Country and earned two varsity letters in Basketball. Other activities he was active in includes Leadership Class, National Honor Society, A.S.B., Relay for Life, Foodball, Kamp Kiwanis Counselor, the Red Cross Blood Drive, and was a coach for the Grays Harbor Youth Basketball program. Eddy was chosen as the Lions Club Student of the Month for October, Co-Chairman for Foodball, Relay for Life Team Captain, and Basketball Team Captain. Eddy also participated in the Mr. Fantastic Pageant. Larissa Kathleen Steen has earned a 3.607 cumulative GPA and is the daughter of James and Chrissy Steen. Larissa will be attending Grays Harbor College for three years to acquire her Associate in Science degree in Pre-Veterinary studies. Her plan is to transfer to Washington State University to complete her degree and become a Veterinarian and one day open her own practice. Larissa has been active in Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pit Orchestra for HHS Musicals, Volleyball, Tennis, and National Honor Society. She has also served on the Band Council, participated in the Grays Harbor Relay for Life and was the Volleyball Manager. She received the Coaches Award for Volleyball. Michael Aaron Selin has earned a 3.590 cumulative GPA and is the son of Cindy Selin and Lester Selin. Michael will be attending Grays Harbor College for two years to earn his Associate of Science degree in Pre-Chiropractic studies. He will then go on to the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon Chiropractic School for four years. After graduation he plans to open his own practice in Grays Harbor. Michael has been involved in Football and Track for four years where he was awarded the Most Inspirational JV Football player for two years, and the Coaches award for Track. He has participated in Foodball, National Honor Society, World Class Scholars, assisted with the Hoquiam youth Football Camp, volunteered at the Hoquiam Fire Department, and assisted with the movie night “To Save A Life” about suicide. Michael was selected the Lions Club Student of the Month for January, was chosen by his peers as “Most Likely to Brighten Your Day” for the Hesperian and was King of the May Court for the Mother’s Day Tea. Shannon Nicole Murphy has earned a 3.585 cumulative GPA and is the daughter of Lori and Terry Murphy. Shannon will be attending Wenatchee Valley College in the fall and will be playing Soccer for them for the next two years. He has been involved in Marching Band, Cross Country and Track for four years. Ian was chosen Cross Country Most Valuable Player in 2011, Team Captain 2010 and 2011 and Most Inspirational all four years. Hannah Elizabeth Bennett, has earned a 3.92 and is the daughter of Janice Bennett. She plans to attend the University of Phoenix to study Human Services. Her future goal is to become a social worker. Hannah has been involved in Tennis, Honor Society and Foodball. Adelin Teresa Garcia has earned a 3.89 cumulative GPA and is the daughter of Quirina Fernandez. She will be attending Grays Harbor College in the fall to work toward her nursing degree, with the goal to be a nurse. Adelin has been involved in Honors Society, Foodball, Spanish Club, Soccer and Tennis. New Assignment for the 2012-13 School Year Brock Maxfield HHS Principal Congratulations to Brock Maxfield, Assistant Principal at Hoquiam High School, as he was recently selected to become the next principal of Hoquiam High School. Brock is a graduate of HHS, attended Washington State University and returned to HHS as a teacher and Assistant Principal. Scott Hyder HHS Assistant Principal The Hoquiam School District is very pleased to announce the selection of Scott Hyder as the new high school assistant principal. Scott comes highly recommended from the Yelm school district where he was involved with administrative, teaching and coaching duties. Award Winning HHS Grizzly Marching Band in Victoria B.C. Lori Coady District Office Receptionist Congratulations to Lori Coady, the newly hired District Office Receptionist/Secretary to the Superintendent. She is replacing Patti Maxfield who is retiring at the end of July. Lori is coming from Emerson Elementary where she was the Office Coordinator. She is looking forward to her new role in the district. Carmen Riffe Emerson School Office Coordinator Congratulations to Carmen Riffe as she was recently selected to be the new Office Coordinator for Emerson Elementary School. She has been with Emerson for the past 17 years as a para professional. Carmen is looking forward to starting her new position at Emerson. The TAG (Talented and Gifted) Program of the Hoquiam School District will be accepting nominations from May 1- June 15 of 2012. This program is designed to meet the unique needs of students that score in the top 5% of their grade. Students generally display this through their advanced understanding of reading, writing, and mathematics and/or a high degree of creativity. If you know of a student in the Hoquiam School District that will be grades 2-8 in the year 201213 that should be considered, please contact Mary White at [email protected] or call 538-8417. Any person can submit nominations (parent, student, teacher, staff member, community member). Hoquiam School District and Hoquiam Teachers Association The district has invited the teachers union leadership to the bargaining table to negotiate a new agreement. The current agreement will expire on August 31, 2012. School patrons can follow the progress of these negotiations by visiting the district website: hoquiam.net Hoquiam Kindergarten Registration 2012 – 2013 School Year • When: Parents may register their child between the hours of 7:45 am - 3:45 pm. • Location: Emerson School • By law, your child must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2012. • Please bring your child to one of the registration times along with their birth certificate and immunization records. • It is very important to register your child as soon as possible. The number of students we have will determine staffing of teachers and assistants, class size and room assignments.
